Also airing sports, the Richland Center Ithaca cross-country team continues to have a nice season.

Coach Eric Mindum talked to me this week about the team's most recent appearance at the Philomore Tournament over the weekend.

Overall, it ran pretty well.

It's a tough course.

Lots of hills.

They're smaller races.

They run it a bit unique in that each team designates their number one through seven runners, and you run with that group.

So it's a smaller race, so it's really tough

mentally.

But overall, I thought we ran pretty well.

Some fast times.

Owen Dreyer ran it really fast, and he was about a minute slower than the top guy.

He was.

Credit to Simon from

St.

Ambrose Academy.

Really talented runner.

And Owen ran a good race.

coming off a tough week at practice with Mao repeats, and we really pushed it.

So the team was running on heavy legs, but still thought we performed pretty well.

When is your next meet, Eric?

Yeah, this coming Saturday, we race down in Platteville.

It's an early bus time, but we're excited to get down there.

It's great competition.

It's probably the last sectional like atmosphere for us.

We race against a lot of the top ranked schools in the area.

So that'll be a great test for us.

The Greater Richland USBC Bowling Association will have its annual open meeting tonight, starting at 6 p.m.

at the Phoenix Center.

All bowlers who are in leagues at the Phoenix Center are encouraged to attend that meeting this evening.

Manager Pat Murphy confirms.

National Lakes Cy Young Award favorite, Jacob Mizorowski will be the team starting pitcher for the first playoff game.

The contest will be played Saturday in Milwaukee against the winner of the Cubs Padre Series.

The Miz will be followed in the second game by 24-year-old right-hander Logan Henderson, who had a breakout campaign.

Henderson compiled an 11-3 record with an ERA of 2.47.

Murphy

He says no decision has been made yet about keeping right-hander Dustin May in the postseason rotation.

He also talked about this time of year and how tough it is to win.

And he says no one will run the table this year in the playoffs.

There's two good teams, you know, the teams in the National League this year.

Every one of them stacked.

Everyone's built for the World Series.

And we, if before the season, you would have said the Brewers aren't in that conversation with the Braves and the Phillies and the Dodgers and the Cubs.

whoever else is in this thing.

But now we don't use that under underdog card anymore because we prove what we proved over the last few years.

Phil Nee

The Brewers will play the winner of the Padres and Cubs series.

The Padres took the jump eight nothing with the win over the Cubs last night.

Also in the National League Playoffs, Atlanta 5-3 over Philadelphia.

The White Sox received a letter from Pope Leo on the same day of their playoff opener against the Astros.

The September 9th letter was addressed to White Sox owner Jerry Rheinsdorf.

The team says the note arrived at Chicago's rate field ahead of game one of its American League Wild Cards series against the Astros.

Leo is a White Sox fan, dating back to his days growing up in Chicago.

As far as the White Sox, they went out with a win, 6-3 against Houston and the Yankees over Boston.

Final score there, 9-0.

WNBA playoffs get underway, Indiana, 99-89 winner against Las Vegas and New York, 87-71 over Minnesota.

The Badgers are nine and a half point favorites to win this Saturday's home game against Michigan State.

The Spartans are two and two so far this season.

They will be missing top running back Cam Edwards after he suffered a season ending injury.

Kickoff is set for 11-30 at Camp Randall Stadium.

Michigan State brought in more than 50 new players through the transfer portal and incoming freshman this off season.

Coach Luke Fickle says it's going to be nice to see how the Badgers respond after such an emotional.

come back when

this is just another opportunity for us to kind of reiterate some of that about what this journey looks like and how you got to be able to continue to do things you do and believe in the things you believe in and be who you want to be.

Regardless of having an incredible game and having excitement like that and maybe even some people talking about you a little bit different, but the maturity is going to be tested.

Phil Nee

The Packers aren't done yet.

They have brought in a third offensive lineman as they try to plug big holes before Sunday's game against Tampa Bay.

Former Wisconsin Badgers offensive lineman Kevin Zeitler

worked out for the team.

Zeitler is 36 years old and a former first round draft pick.

He played for the Titans last season.

There is one problem.

Signing him would use up almost all of Green Bay's cap space, making more moves difficult.

The NHL is actually underway with regular season games and it's not even October.

Florida won an overtime over Carolina, won nothing.

Montreal 3-2 over Toronto.

Boston beat the Rangers, 3-0.

Vancouver 6-5 over Edmonton and overtime.

Vegas 5, Chicago 2.

And the Bucks veteran guard, Gary Trent Jr.

tells reporters he is in Milwaukee to win.

The NBA is investigating the four-year $64 million contract.

Trent signed with a team during the off-season.

Yahoo Sports reports that Trent says he can't comment on the investigation, but he hopes the situation is resolved soon.

He says the main focus is on winning in Milwaukee.
