The River Valley soccer team knocked off Richland Center 2-0 in Southwest Conference action last night.
The visiting Blackhawks netted a goal in each half and made it stand on the way to the win against their long-time rivals.
The first goal was made by Virgil Willep at 29 minutes, the 1-0 lead stood through half-time, and the Blackhawks made it 2-0 at 47 minutes.
Tyson Luther assisted James Dibart and River Valley scored an insurance goal.
Blackhawks keeper Dylan Perry led the defense to a shutout.
Richland Center was competitive throughout the 80 minutes, but could not find the combination to score.
Caleb Federle was in goal for the Hornets.
Strong play from Connor Stoles, Josh Nelson, Sean Adams, Henry Martin, and Andrew Matta was not enough to turn away their opponent in front of the home crowd.
The Hornet JV team won three to two over visiting River Valley in the five o'clock game.
Following the 2-0 varsity win, River Valley will travel to the Sugar River Tournament Saturday.
Richland Center will prepare for another conference game coming up Tuesday at Prairie du Chien.

High school volleyball on Thursday night, Richland Center with a three sets to one win over Lancaster River Valley, three nothing over Dodgeville Riverdale defeated basketball in three sets last night.

That brings us to football coming up tonight.

You know, Lancaster has had a very tough draw.
You know, when you look at who they played, you know, Belleville preseason favorite ranked, ranked Cubis City team, you know, you know, and just middle point, which is dominant, you know, in the tough Platteville team.
So those are no slouches, you know, and.
I know that they're kind of looking at this one going, okay, we got a little bit of reprieve, you know, taking on a one and three Richland Center team.
But our kids are hungry.
You know, I mean, they've been so close, you know, over the last week or so.
And so they want to capitalize.
They want to seal the deal.
You know, production is great, but they want the W. So it'll be nice to go down there.
I mean, we're going to see a lot of spread.
So they're going to throw it around quite a bit.
Not as much triple option as what they've had in the past.
So that's nice and we also have to prepare for it because they've been running triple options since they were in elementary school, right?
So they run it better than most teams.
That's kind of offensively what we expect to see in the defensively of 4-3 with tight man coverage.
And so what's going to come down to is just our ability to establish a strong run game.

Prairie Dushine is going to be a good squad.
I think everybody kind of picks them to be the favorite of the season.
They got some athletes.
They got some good sides up front as well, but a very beatable team.
So again, really trying to focus on ourselves, refine our process and get ready to go play some ball.
Again, this year probably she has a really strong running game, don't they?
Yeah, they got a pretty good back this year.
They're nice up front protecting.
Again, that's going to be kind of our number one thing to take care of on defense is really trying to find either runs.

They got a really good quarterback, a lot of run heavy quarterback, quarterback, sweep, speed option, and then mix that in with some quick, a quick passing game.
There's three in one.
They beat Wasiga last week and they won their first two non-conference games.
So they're formidable opponent.

I think this is a must win game this week.
And then next week is a basketball.
I think that's going to be a competitive game too.
And then going into the last three are the top three teams.
Black Hawk is kind of down a little bit, but I think we could contend with anybody in our league.
