Beginning with a schedule check tonight, Richland Center Soccer team hosts River Valley.
I spoke with RC Soccer coach Tom Stadler today.
We've been competing well.
We've been scoring goals in almost every game.
We lost to Reedsburg recently, but Andrew Mada scored a fantastic goal.
And so, despite the loss, we have some bright moments.
What are some things the team has to improve on, Tom?
Well, defensively, we need to mark up, you know, and marking up is a great tool as defense.
And we'll see if we can do that tonight against River Valley.
What do you know about the Blackhawks?
Well, we've had a great rivalry over the years.
And this year, I think it's going to be one of our better matches.
I think we're
evenly matched with them this year and expect to have a fantastic game at home.

There are a few high school football games moved up to tonight and some that were originally scheduled that way.
Eight player DeSoto is at Highland and North Crawford is at Kickapoole of Arge.
In the Scenic Bluffs Conference, new Lisbon at Royal and the Westby will be at Verroqua in the Cooley Conference.
Coming up tomorrow night, Richland Center slated to play Adlan Caster.
And the Hornets were involved in a wild one this last week before they lost after scoring 39 points to Platteville.
Here is coach Andrew Troxel.
It's been a while since we've been in that situation.
And you know, you kind of get the feeling how things are going to go in that first quarter.
And I remember coming over to the sideline and talking to our offensive line saying, all right, boys, the team with the ball last is going to seal the deal with this thing.
We are going to shoot out tonight.
And they said, all right, OK, if that's what we got to do, then so be it.
So it was nice to see offensive production on that scale.
I know we've been so close in the last few weeks, right?
But offensively, it was just a great performance all the way around.
I mean, QB Play was solid.
Running backs.
choose one, they all had good games, right?
Offensive line were able to establish their domination in the trenches, you know, and so, you know, when you put 39 points against the team, it's always a good day, you know, and especially a team like Plaville who historically we've struggled to have production with, you know, I mean, something's moving in the right direction.
What about the numbers?
Anything stick out on the stat sheet with your offense?
Yeah, overall, I mean, this was the most productive game of the season for us.
We had 361 total yards, 239 on the ground and then 122 in the air.
You know, Bronson Perkins had a career day, 140 yards, two touchdowns, you know, in the red zone, Cain Stibby, two touchdowns, was able to punch it in, you know, at Avery McGlenn that was able to tuck it away at a 37 yard scramble for a TD, you know, and then
When you have a strong established run game, that really opens up some big explosive plays through the air.
So that was nice to see Tate have a really good day in the air.
Bronson and Kaizen had a good day receiving, you know, so just collectively all the way around.
It was just nice to see a lot of targets that capitalize on the opportunities that they were given offensively.
What are some things that you take from that that you need to work on for this week?
Yeah, we had a nice conversation over the weekend at our staff meeting just about defense.
And how we need to share that up to eliminate some confusion, you know, because our Achilles heel has been the big play, you know, and we look at schematics.
I mean, we were there, right?
It's a mistackle here or there, right?
It's lack of communication, you know, between this one kid, this one time, right?
And we just kind of got caught into it.
So, you know, that's part of the game, right?
You're going to have breakdowns here and there.
And the high school kids are going to make mistakes, you know, but I mean, we got to make sure that we don't
Just give things away.
We make the opponent earn it.
Richland Center football coach Andy Troxell, his team will be at Lancaster for the second year in a row.
They won at Lancaster last year by a point.
River Valley will be back in action as they get ready for their contest this weekend against their Prairie Duchenne opponent.

What happened to the game against Dodgeville?
I mean, it was a hard fight game, I would say, all the way through those three quarters.
It really came down to a couple of plays that really kind of took the scales.
We kind of know going into this, it was going to be a dog fight.
It was going to be a fight to the very end.
It just kind of came out there at the very end.
So let's talk about the team and its attitude this week.
Are the Dobbers down a little bit after the loss?
I think there was obviously a little bit of frustration with the loss.
But again, we're really trying to focus our process.
Again, there was a lot of good things we saw through those three quarters and then just kind of finding a way to finish through.

Christian Yelich knocked in the tying run and winning runs in the seventh inning as the Brewers came from behind to beat Pittsburgh, 5-4.
Shortstop Cooper Pratt went 2-4.

Starter Logan Henderson gave up three runs in five innings of work.
Then Antonio Senzatala earned his 11th win in relief.

Oh, absolutely.
These games moving forward are very important.
We've got a lot of ball left and we're not taking the foot off the gas by any means.
Yeah, we had our fun last night, but we knew that we had to show up to work today and get the job done.
Manager Pat Murphy talked about a win after a big celebration the night before.
We're not trying
to pretend we're better than we are, but we come to play every day and I'm proud of that.
Even after the celebration last night, a lot of guys didn't get as much sleep as their moms or dads would want them to get.
But I think they handled it responsibly and came out and played hard today.

Lions at the Bills beginning the new NFL weekend tonight.
For the Packers, there were a few positives to take away from the disappointing loss.
Jordan Love when he had time click for almost 400 yards and rookie kicker Trey Smack boomed a 59 yarder on his first try.
Smack also had field goals of 43, 26 and 40 yards.
Although the last one was taken off the scoreboard, he also missed an extra point.
His first game was a strong one.
However, the only negative that missed extra point and a kickoff that reached the end zone.
As far as the Packers moving forward,
The offensive line needs to improve.
And Matt LaFleur has asked about the O-line watching the film and looking at making changes.
Well, I think that's to be seen, but I would expect them to react positively.
I think they're going to take the coaching.
They're going to take it to heart.
I know that's a prideful group.
And, you know, we're just looking at to get a little bit better each and every day.
The Badgers are 24 and a half point favorites in their last game before starting the tough Big Ten schedule.
Wisconsin will take on Eastern Michigan after splitting its first two games.
Then coach Luke Fickles team will face nine conference opponents.
The starting time Saturday is set for 11.30 at Camp Randall.
A long trip to Happy Valley, Pennsylvania follows where the kickoff against Penn State has been announced at 4 p.m.

The Benjamin's basketball team has begun its season workouts with their annual run of Bascom Hill on the UW campus.
Coach Greg Gard talked about his team.
What I've liked now is how we've changed physically.
You know, we're bigger in terms of some of the additions.
We're bigger in terms of just the returners, you know, low on winter looks much improved physically is bigger.
And I think him sitting out for most of summer or not having the live wear and tear on his body was a good thing because allowed him to really put on muscle mass and really put on weight.
