Our featured high school football broadcast from last night was Ithaca West in hosting Bangor.
Phil Ney had the play
by play.
Ithaca Weston won a key Scenic Bluffs Conference football game 12-8 over Bangor on Friday night.
Both teams kept the ball on the ground for the majority of plays and that kept the clock running.
The game lasted less than two hours and that included an 18-minute halftime.
The visiting Cardinals scored on their second possession.
They took advantage of an IW fumble that was recovered by Elijah Kopp who later capped off a drive with a three-yard touchdown and a two-point conversion run.
Ithaca Weston would also score in the second quarter.
Jacob Keller scored on a quarterback keeper.
The two-pointer failed and it was 8-6 and that was the score at halftime.
Ithaca Weston ate up a great deal of the third quarter clock.
Before they would find the end zone with 4-23 left in the third.
Spencer Nelson scored from three yards out.
The two-pointer was unsuccessful and the score was 12-8.
IW's defense stood tall late in the game.
Spencer Nelson led a key sack of the quarterback and later Landon Walmer recovered a fumble.
Both teams only had three possessions in that second stanza.
The Cardinals were stopped short the last time they had the ball, and they turned it over on downs at their own 35.
Ithaca Weston was able to take the clock all the way to the end with a key first down.
With a 12-8 win, Ithaca Weston is now undefeated through three games, and they have two wins and no losses in the league.
They will host Brookwood next Saturday at one o'clock during the Ithaca School Fair and Homecoming.
Bangor is now one and three on the season and one and one in the league.
They will take on Neceda during the fifth week of the high school football season.

We get to meet a lot of the best Madison area schools.
So plenty, we get to punch up, punch above our weight a little bit.
So it's kind of fun when we get there and have a big race, a sectional like atmosphere.
There's a great team, great individual there,
so it's always a good challenge for us.
Yeah, I was going to say that.
It seems like a sectional with a number of large and small schools that are there.
This might be especially for some of your youngest runners, kind of their first chance in a real big atmosphere, isn't it?
It is, and it's good to have that experience before we get to the large meets in October.
So yeah, definitely a good opportunity for them to try to feel their way through a race of that size against competition
that's strong.
Still warm temperatures out there, which is not common by now, but I mean, how are you adjusting to the heat and humidity?
Yeah, it's just preaching a lot that they need to hydrate and really harp on them to take care of themselves this time of year and in that heat.
It's a challenge for practices to be able to maybe push it as much as we would like to.
but certainly races too.
There's a balance there between pushing hard enough, but not overdoing it.
I know at Baroque last week, for example, several girl run or some other teams have been collapsing.
So it's kind of scary when you have to perform in those kind of.
And Garrett Mitchell hit the Milwaukee Brewers first grand slam of the season, one of four homers for Milwaukee and a 20 to nothing route of the Cincinnati Reds last night in Milwaukee.

there was cross-country action at River Valley at the Blackhawk Invitational and the
Bridgeland Center did pretty well.
Eric Mindum reported that the Bridgeland Center had some great races and had a few medal winners, including Owen Dreyer, who took third, Margaret Lawless, who took 17th, and Pearl Fritz, who took 20th.
And the high school boys, every team ahead of them, are ranked in the culture pulling rankings in either D1 or D2.
And then the girls be defending conference champions Lancaster as well as Dodge Point.
So that was great to see.
And so other medal winners that placed other runners that placed in the top 20th and boys large schools actually it was Owen Dreyer who placed third places just mentioned for Richland Center and in team scores Richland Center Ithaca placed six and River Valley placed 16th also for Richland Center Ithaca and as I mentioned they did well in there and for the small schools at that tournament players that
placed in the top 20 from the area.
It was Kipton Brown of Bosquebell.
He placed ninth and he was like said in the top 20 and Bosquebell in the small schools for boys.
They placed fourth and Riverdale placed 11th.
For girls in the top 20, as mentioned, Margaret Lawless and Pearl Fretz.
That's for the large schools and Ritual Center, Ithaca took eighth and River Valley placed third.
And in the girls' small school, in the top 20, Melanie Williamson, she placed 16th.
And for placings, Boscobel took 12th place.
So congratulations to all the participants in that tournament.
