Phil Nee

Marty Richards is back to talk a little bit about what's going on in the Pine River.

So, so what's up?

The water not right now, right?

Well, no, you know, it's really dry out there.

I don't know what happened, but I got my lawn mowing service mowing my lawn.

And it's the point where it's just mowing the weeds that grew.

Phil Nee

Right.

But so that tells us, you know, the soil is pretty dry at this point.

What does that have to do with kayaking?

Well, that means that the pine level is fine.

It's really in good shape.

as far as the water level keep an eye out though because what we have forecasted and you know earlier in the week it was we're going to have three days of rain it's going to be tough well that's dodgenous uh looks like starting tonight Thursday night uh we'll get some rain but there's you know the Friday we're looking at rain but um the you know experts and how much rain we're going to get is really varied it's that system seems like it keeps kind of drying up

air is still dry as we record this you know on Thursday in the morning it's really not I don't know that we're gonna get that much moisture so what I would tell folks keep an eye out one inch of rain can make a difference on the pine but

it is dry.

So if it doesn't come fast, it'll probably soak right in.

So I would just say after this system comes through, just kind of check what are the water levels, what is the speed, you know, that's kind of the concern and kind of use common sense.

Of course, if you really aren't sure and you just want to check, is it safe, you can always call 13 pines RC, the kayak outfitter, 608.

608-0932 and they'll they'll give you a little guidance Should you be be out there or not and they'll rent you a kayak if you need it and the whole service or ferry you back and forth So just kind of keep an eye on it.

It may we if we don't get Heavy part of that system, which we may not it looks like it keeps kind of stopping at the Mississippi River in the forecast It may be good to go

once once it's done raining and the sun comes out it might be an awesome day on the water on the pine and I would say

kind of the sections you can travel haven't really changed.

So Rockbridge, if you get in and the Rockbridge landing to County SR, that's open, should be very enjoyable.

There was one tree that's, you know, with low water, you're going to have to work your way over it right out of Rockbridge, but it's passable for most all people.

And then

Then at SR, County SR, County Road SR, for those who wonder, what the heck is SR?

And I got to remember, not everybody understands my language.

County SR to Bowens Mill Landing, still needs cleaning.

There's been work done, it's getting better, but we're going to discourage folks from doing that section.

that is really it's got a couple of places where it's hard to portage so really getting around the blockage is hard and there is a blockage we still need to take care of there but then Bowens Mill to Mill Pond Park.

That's pretty much clear right now.

I've talked about there is a big tree at North Park.

Rather, you can go all the way to Old Melpond Park.

But there is a tree at North Park that with a little water you can get under.

Now, if we get a little bit of rain and the water level goes up, you may have to portage around that.

But overall,

Things you know are really in good shape right now.

We're just got to pay attention as this storm comes through

Phil Nee

indeed So what have you heard so far from the people that have been on the river getting good reviews?

Yeah, we've actually on our social media content We had quite a few people Chippin in we'd talked about the work Derek Warner and and others are doing at Mark Thomas helped him out and

They were really appreciative and we were getting word from folks that have been down the river that really, you know, in those sections we've talked about a very enjoyable, really leisurely, getting, you know, nice scenic views.

Our next project to kind of help people out that we're working on and I've get that's

in the list of things I need to do.

We need to get the duck houses out there.

And that'll give some folks some wildlife and things to see as well.

But we'd mentioned before the Ithaca Technical Education Program led by James Knee and a couple of students, Spencer Nelson and Wes.

brown built like 20 or 18 I think it's 18 duck houses that we can put out and then we also have an effort to start putting some mileage markers with those so if people need assistance or if you're just trying to judge where you're at in that section you'll be able to you know figure it out oh okay we're mile 17 you know yep we just got another mile to go to get to the next landing or if you know haven't forbid we have a situation where they

need assistance, they can kind of tell people where they're at.

Phil Nee

All right.

And we want to thank our sponsor, the Branding Iron.

You do karaoke there?

I do

not do karaoke there, Phil.

Okay, so people are safe.

They do have, believe it's the last Sunday every month, they have open mic night at the Branding Iron.

And really, there's some top talent you tend to hear there, not to mention their own, you know, their own hamburger from their farm.

They actually raise their own steers that

They get their hamburgers, so it's farm fresh right close by.

So really good menu at the branding.

Not to mention, like I said, last Sunday of each month, they are doing open mic nights, too.

Phil Nee

Thanks to them.

Thank you, Marty.

And my comb is out of tune, so I can't even show up for open mic night to play the comb.

It's hard to find a good comb

Phil Nee

tuner,

isn't it?

They're hard.

You know, I looked in yellow pages.

None.

None.

There aren't any.

So if anybody knows of a good comb tuner, then I'd appreciate the help on

Phil Nee

that.

Contact us immediately.

Yeah.

That's it for the Pine River Report today.

I am Phil Knee with sports.

Well, the first thing out of the gates is its sectional final softball later today.

Ithaca Weston will be taking on Belmont on a neutral field at River Ridge High School.

The Bulldogs got here with a win on Tuesday night.

They had to hold on in the end against Royal IS head coach Brad Lewis this morning about that game.

Yeah, we came out hitting the ball really well.

I mean, the game really wasn't as close until like the last two outs of the game.

We took an eight to one lead going into seventh inning.

The girls just came out hitting the ball very well again.

And then that seventh inning, I think the nerves got to them.

I think they were just, we had a couple errors.

JC was just struggling a little bit hitting your locations.

And I think just

The emotion got the best of the girls there and we forgot to play our game.

Phil Nee

Well, that overshadows what was a nice win.

Any win at this stage is a nice win, isn't it?

Correct.

Correct.

I mean, it was just nice.

I mean, we did come out, uh, JC, the first couple innings, she just, I think she tried taking on too much of the load and, and just instead of just pitching like she had been.

uh... they had bases loaded the first two innings and we were able to get out of that or jaycee was able to get out of that pitch out of that with only allowing one run we

Phil Nee

get ready for this uh... belmont team are they similar to the one you saw last year

i would say that probably i don't think they're quite as overpowering is what they were last year uh... similar or uh... so they have to talk to castles in their conference and we played them and uh... we beat to toast cast fell fourteen to eight

And, um, they'll not beat them both times.

They played them three to nothing and five to nothing.

Phil Nee

Okay.

So that's the only similar score you have then it sounds like.

Yeah.

And the peccatonic, I think they played, but I don't remember the score off that hand.

I mean, we came from behind to beat pack.

Uh, that was a game that we were not hitting the ball until the sixth and seventh inning.

And then we came back and won that game.

And I think they beat them.

pretty easily.

Phil Nee

That's Brad Lewis, head coach of Ithaca Weston.

We'll have the game on the air later today, 450 pre-game time from River Ridge High School, Ithaca Weston 19 and four and Belmont 22 and six.

Coming into the day, the two teams met a year ago at state division four at Riverdale.

A couple of number ones from their half sectionals will meet.

Mineral point plays Fenimore.

Division three at Bluff View School in Prairie du Chien, Lodi and Adams Friendship.

Adams Friendship, the team that knocked off Richland Center in eight innings on Tuesday night, taking on Lodi, a team that got by poignette.

on Tuesday.

Division 2 at Portage, Turner and Mount Horrib will meet.

Last night in WIAA Regional Championship Baseball Games, Cochran Fountain City over Royal 3-1.

Aliva Strom beat Brookwood 4-1.

Also, Potosi Cassville was a winner over River Ridge 9-7 and Seneca over DeSoto 4-1.

3 2.

It was a victory for Paul Myra Eagle over Pecatonica 11-4, Barnaville 8 and Parkview nothing.

Division 3 action, Verroqua 6-4 over Amro and it was Laconia getting the win against Westby 5-1.

Dodgeville 11-2 over Iowa Grant and Fenimore 4-3 over Mineral Point in 9 innings.

All these teams advance to the tournament.

Fenimore and also Dodgeville, Laconia and Verroqua will be at the Riverdale sectional next Tuesday.

And in Division 2 it was Edgewood over Portage 5-4 and Barrelboo 4-2 over Sock Prairie in regional championship baseball.

Turning to the state scene, the Brewers had the tying run and scoring position with no outs in the bottom of the ninth, but couldn't bring it home.

The San Francisco Giants claimed a one-nothing shutout victory behind veteran starter Logan Webb.

Robert Gasser gave up a fifth inning home run that left him with a pitching loss.

Milwaukee was held to just three hits.

The series finale is coming up.

Later on today, you can hear the game on WRCE, a home of local news and timeless hits.

That is FM 107.7 and AM 1450.

Another baseball from the National League Miami for one of her Washington.

It was Philadelphia three San Diego two, the Dodgers seven nothing over Arizona.

In the American League, Detroit 7, Tampa Bay 2, the White Sox 8-0 over Minnesota, Boston 8, Baltimore 1, and Cleveland 5-4 over the Yankees.

Inter League play, the Mets 7-1 over Seattle, Atlanta 7, Toronto 3, Kansas City 5-2 over Cincinnati, St.

Louis 5, Texas 3, the Athletics over the Cubs,

5-4, Houston 11, Pittsburgh 9, and the Angels got the win against Colorado.

Final score of 11-4.

Edge rusher, Micah Parsons will apparently wind up on the physically unable to perform list as he comes back from knee surgery.

Putting him on the pup list means the all pro defender will miss at least the first four games of the season.

Parsons tells reporters it's most important that he be ready to go and not suffer any setbacks because he wants to be available down the stretch and into the NFL playoffs.

He had hoped to be ready by the September 13th season opener at Minnesota, but that is not possible.

at this point, he talked about his progress yesterday.

Just passed my fifth month on May 29th.

I'm extremely happy where we're at and the direction that I'm going.

So

obviously you got four more months to go.

Micah says that he would like to be back sooner, but he has learned from studying it that you can't rush it.

The goal has always just

been not right now, but longevity with my career here.

And I think they want that approach.

We have a pretty strong nine month rule.

So it's just all about just through the research and the data, there's no good outcomes with players coming back early from ACL.

especially if you add in all the other things that get fixed up.

So it's just all about completing the rehab, the best of our ability, and then seeing where we're at from there.

One rating service puts the Wisconsin football recruiting class of 2027 in the top 20 nationwide.

The Badgers have 16 commits for the class after signing up three-star cornerback.

Royalton Allen, Wisconsin checks in at number 18.

The class is rated right in the middle of the big 10 ninth, showing the conference's status as a leader.

The biggest commitment in the class comes from four-star quarterback Jack Sorgi.

Last year, the Badgers were rated below the top 16.

golf's biggest names on the PGA Tour champions are pairing up with the final field set for the 26 American Family Insurance Championship at TPC Wisconsin where 76 players compete in 38 teams for the dream achieved trophy.

For the second straight year the AMFAM championships will feature a team format exclusive to the PGA Tour champions.

The field will compete as 38 two-person teams

over 54 holes with two rounds of best ball and one round of scramble.

The tournament returns to TPC Wisconsin, the events home since 2025 on Madison's north side.

Defending champion Darren Clark will return with a new partner this year teaming up with Ben Crane after winning the 25 title alongside Thomas Bjorn.

Clark and Bjorn won last year's inaugural team title at 32 under par.

Steve Stricker

talked about AMFAM classics and what it means.

The biggest thing is the nearly 22 million that we've raised for charities through that time period.

Half of that money going to the American Family Children's Hospital is important for this community and all of us.

So first of all, it's that and then just the community involvement, the volunteers, the fans that come out, the sponsors that support it, the sponsors that trust us with the monies that they give us,

Phil Nee

that we're going to do something good with it.

The New York Knicks winning streak lives on and they struck first in the NBA finals.

Jalen Brunson scored 30, Carl Anthony Towns finished with 18 and 12 rebounds, and the Knicks erased a 14-point second half deficit to beat the Spurs 105-95 in game one of the finals.
