Richland Center soccer coach Shawnee Fink joins us.

Shawnee, how has the team been playing as of late?

Yeah, we've been we haven't been doing too bad.

We got hit with some injuries, but we'll we'll get past that and Just keep moving forward.

You had some wins recently that does certainly does help confidence when you put a win in the column, isn't

it?

Yes, it does That's for sure.

We beat Prairie earlier in the season and we still play them again So looking forward to another win there and then we had a win at our tournament against the Iowa team So that was great to see the players

Come out with victories in those games.

You've had a game or two.

I know that was postponed.

We have any makeups here in the coming days?

No, we will not know what we have on our schedule.

So remaining is what we will have for the rest of the season.

You mentioned a few injuries.

How is how close is the team to being at full strength?

Hopefully I'll get some good news today.

I had some players out last week, which is some minor.

So hopefully we get them back this upcoming week.

When you look at your team who's been playing well for you lately who are some of the leaders?

Yeah, so I have two captains Mariah Abde and Sylvia Schmidt actually is one of the injured players So she won't be playing But and then Rowan May she controls the midfield Our defense has been under attack all year led by Harper glass Brenner and Bryn Anderson So those are those are the ones we look to to keep moving forward this year

And leadership is real key down the stretch here and you want your seniors to go out in grand style I'm sure and get some wins here at the end of the year, don't

you?

For sure.

Yeah, of course not only for the seniors but just for everybody on the team to end with some victories this year.

What about the WIAA tournament?

How's it look for that in terms of games and what you'd have to be to maybe get a good draw?

Yeah, of course our divisional I believe it has seven Our regional has seven games seven teams this year.

So you never you just never know We play Boston and the Heights later this year still And they're in it.

So, you know, if we win those two games, we could have a good matchup in the regionals

Anything special going on with tonight's game with with Sparta for the fans

We are going to have the team sing the national anthem before the game as long as we can get that work And so look forward to that.

That's cool.

And do you have a lot of singers on the team then in other words?

Yeah, we do I'm not quite sure how many of them so we'll we'll find out

awesome And who is helping you out coach this year Shawnee?

Yeah, I have Julia Smith helping me out.

She's been a great asset to the team helping just any way she can

Um, Aliyah Ruhlin has come a few times to practices just to help out our new keeper.

Welcome to soccer action between the Spartas Spartans and the Richland Center Hornets.

What a beautiful day for a high school sporting event here at the Richland Center Athletic Facility and they're coming in with a record of two and seven.

The Richland Center Hornets, Sparta coming in with a record of two, five and two.

The keeper for Richland Center is Olivia Donnell also starting tonight at forwards.

They include Nevea Glassbrenner and Eleanor Jelenick.

The midfielders are Emma Jelenick, Mariah Abde, Rowan May, and Alexis Silva, along with Alice Alterford.

And on the defense tonight, Harper Glassbrenner and Brent Anderson has mentioned Dono in the goal.

On the other side for the Spartans, the keeper is Cassie Krebs.

Also starting tonight, number four, Haley Olson, number five, Maddie Ziegler, six, Brogan Baird, along with Tiana Lease, number seven, number nine, Anna Evans, number 10, Bree Mickelson, number 14, Kaylee Church, number 17, Brenna Johnson, 19, Dagny Bolden as well.

The Spartans are coached by Zach Holcomb, and we are underway here today at Richland Center High School.

The Richland Center High School track teams have been busy.

In fact, they're at a meet this afternoon in Verroqua.

Recently, I caught up with Coach Michelle Lewis.

Quite some success in pole vaults.

So Devon Woodhouse, he's been taken gold in almost all of our meets.

And then same thing for Danica Pauls, they're both doing great down in pole vaults.

We have lots of PRs being broken, a few injuries, but nothing too severe.

So hopefully some of them can come out of that, you know, shin splints, rolled ankles, stuff like that.

The weather, I guess, sometimes is a factor, but I guess you can't worry about that, can

you?

No, I try not to.

I tend to look at the forecast, but, I mean, rain is rain.

We'll run in rain if we have to.

It's just if it's thunders and lightning and stuff like that.

But we've only had one meet canceled, and that was our very first meet of the season, so fingers crossed.

I know you have great numbers, Michelle, and you must have a pretty good coaching staff to keep everybody on task and doing what they're supposed to be doing, right?

Yeah, especially with this being my first year as head coach, my coaching staff has been absolutely amazing.

I have one new coach, Doug Stickel, and he is just like, what do you need me to do?

I'll do it.

So it's been great.

They are so confident and comfortable in their workouts.

So I don't even have to worry about them, which has been a great, a huge blessing.

When will your conference be and where will it be held, Michelle?

We have conference Tuesday the 19th, and it's in Lancaster.

So you have everybody kind of where they need to be in terms of your relay teams and everything at this point in the season?

Yeah, I think so.

Again, it's kind of a battle because you want kids to shine in their individual events, but then you want to find the best fit for those relay events too.

So yeah, it's coming together.

This meet on Tuesday is unlimited.

So I kind of threw kids in a lot of individual events just to give them that chance.

Since there are so many kids, when it's a limited meet, I can only have three per event and only 28 registered total.

So it's kind of a puzzle to mix together, but I think we kind of have everybody where we need them.

Where will the regionals and sectionals be held this year for Richland Center?

Regionals are in Wisconsin Dells.

We didn't have a host for a long time, so we kept getting emails about that and Wisconsin Dallas took that for us and then sectionals will be at McFarland.
