I think a baseball team is coached by Kyle Kelly, who takes over the program this year from longtime coach Dan Clary.

Kyle has been a long time assistant with coach Clary and takes over the head roll along with Aaron Hipsch.

I asked Kyle how things have been going.

It's spring in Wisconsin and it's going to change by almost the hour.

That's why I tell the kids like, well, it's about a 5% chance of rain.

I'm like, well, it could be 75 and sunny and it's always going to be a 5% chance of rain in the spring in this state.

So.

How do you keep their minds in it when it's like 30 mile an hour winds on a 40 degree day?

I just kind of say, gotta stay warm, do some jumping jacks for you, get in the box, stay moving in the infield or outfield.

I talked to coach Kelly about approaching the conference this year.

I think the conference can be quite competitive with the Soto Seneca, Weston, North Crawford.

I said, I think it's going to be a real competitive conference.

We'll know more about it this week as all of those teams are playing one another, it seems.

How's the team playing here in the

last week or so since we've talked, Kyle?

Things are looking pretty good so far.

They have a good start to a year.

We're sitting at three and one right now.

When you look at the conference, you know, you continue in the driver's seat as long as you keep winning, right?

Yep.

Still a very competitive conference, though.

Last week you had a couple of really good outings there, and it sounds like the pitching and bats kind of came around pretty

well, didn't they?

Yeah, like I said, the pitching by Houston Bowlin and Caven Keller was pretty extraordinary, the two games they were out there, and they said, we're hitting the ball pretty well right now.

Do you know much about North Crawford coming in tonight?

Yeah, they're a very athletic group.

They put the ball in play quite a bit.

The conference right now, yeah, it's the likely candidates that you mentioned, but certainly these are important games, including tonight's, aren't they?

Yeah, these are two big games this week for sure, and it's ironic we play Crawford twice this week.

How did that happen?

Was that something like a snafu in the schedule?

I have no idea, but it's been that way since September when I first looked at the schedule.

When you looked at last week, we knew it was going to be a stormy week, and it was, so you've got at least

one or two games to make up, don't you?

Yeah, I don't know if we're going to end up making up some of the non-conference games, because everyone has so much rescheduled.

I don't know for sure if those non-conferences are going to get rescheduled.

I know the triangular is not.

Oh, the bulldog triangular, right?

Yeah, the bulldog bull.

I don't think that's going to happen this year.

Looking at your pitching, do you know who you're going to start tonight on the bump?

Either Houston Bullen or Caden Keller.

I'm not quite sure yet.

Are you pretty injury-free

right now?

Yeah, we're completely injury-free right now, so knock on wood there.

And the team, you know, getting out to a nice start here.

If you play well in April, that kind of sets the table, doesn't it?

Yeah, like I said, it's a lot easier to play from ahead than try to catch up from behind.

Who are the leading hitters for the Bulldogs through the first few games?

Keegan Jones, Houston, Cody Burns, Quintus Banker, and Devin Ime.
