High school baseball some games were played last night. The Ithaca baseball team won 5-1 at
DeSoto. Houston, Boland was the winning pitcher. Quentus Banker had a double and Mackay
to Aaloo had two hits in the win for the Bulldogs. Riverdale varsity baseball team lost to
Barrow Boo by a score of 7-2 last night. After an hour long rain delay in Barrow Boo,
Barrow Boo would jump out in early and then they would go on to hand the chieftains their first
loss of the season. The chieftains did pound out 11 hits in the game as Eli Campbell would go three
for four with Ethan Kegel, Henry Dron, Owen Blankenship and Wyatt Schramm each collecting two hits.
The chieftains are now four and one on the season and they will travel to Cuba City tonight
for an important conference game. Elsewhere, it was Cennica 5-1 over Weston. For the Silver Eagles,
Isaac Jennings took the loss, allowing four earned runs on eight hits, no walks and 11 strikeouts.
Eli Jennings went one for two, Gavin Cast, one for three, Trevor Westfall, one for three with a
double. Defensively, there was improvement one error against a good hitting Cennica team.
As far as the team, the pitching was consistent and they need to be more aggressive with the
plate, according to the coaching staff. Again, a Cennica 5-1 win over Weston in
Ridge and Valley action and North Crawford, a winner against Wasika Stuban 11-1.
Elsewhere, one in walks center with a 5-2 win over New Lisbon and Cashton, a victor against
Brookwood, that score 3-1. The Richland Center grit, track meet was held yesterday and despite
some raindrops, they were able to get it all in against some very competitive teams yesterday.
For the Richland Center girls, it was Charlie Bailey taking second in the 100 and third in the
400. Riley Banker, third in the 100. Adeland Words took third in the 200. Adeland Landis with a
third place finish in the 800. And it was Adeland Lawless with the finish there as mentioned
as third. Pearl Fratz, third in the 1600, third in the 3200. Chloe Hying took second in the 100
meter hurdles and third in pole vault. Lacey Allball first in the 300 hurdles. Laura Stoltz,
third in the 300 hurdles. In the 4x4, they took first. Lacey Allball, Adeland Words,
Riley Banker and Charlie Bailey, Danica Paul's first in high jump and first in pole vault
and Pippa Ewing took second in the long jump. For the Richland Center boys, among the highlights,
Duncan Harper first in the 100 and in long jump as well. It was also a first place finish on the day
for Owen Dreyer in the 1600 and Ryan Stadler in the 3200. Bronson Perkins, second in long jump,
Robert Budden, fifth in the 200, second in the 400. Kiernan Culver took third in the 800. And
Devon Woodhouse was tops in pole vault. 4x1 was first. Duncan Harper, Sean Adams, Lucas Durand
and Bronson Perkins and the 4x8 first place finish. They consisted of Robert Budden along with
Harrison Carpenter, Andrew Melby and Owen Dreyer. Team scores last night against some top teams
from around Southwest Wisconsin. Plattville took first in the girls 178 and a half to Richland
Center's 138 and a half. Assumption was third with 121 for Okwa 59 and Sock Prairie fifth
with 37. Also in the men's rankings, Plattville 238.50. Assumption 125. Richland Center took third
with 123. Sock Prairie fourth with 46 and Baroquewa with a 46 tied for fourth with Sock Prairie
actually in the team scores at the annual grit invitational hosted by Richland Center High School.
Today's schedule looks to be a little bit iffy in terms of the heavy storms it could come in by
late afternoon. We are scheduled to have the Richland Center Prairie Dushine softball game on
the radio tonight. Five o'clock of it happens for 50 pre-game time on FM 100.9 and WRCO.com.
The Richland Center girls Sockered team is looking to improve with some young players getting
more experience. A Hornet Sockered team is coached by Shawnee Fingh. I have two captains this year,
Sylvia Schmitt who's a senior and Mariah Obday who's a junior. We have them two back and then
we have a good defense coming back just need to keep working together. So,
junior's Brynn Anderson, Ellis Stadler and sophomore Harper Glass Brenner.
When you look at the schedule and the conference, who do you think the teams to beat will be in the
Southwest this year? This year I for sure think it'll be Plattville Lancaster and River Valley.
We had a tough one against River Valley last night but those two always look to be the tough one
especially this year in the conference. You have pretty good numbers this year Shawnee?
Yeah, we have 22 so we have a couple newcomers. You know we have five freshmen, eight returning
sophomores. So, it's a good solid number especially for the stars of the season.
Is there talk about playing the JV schedule as well this year?
No this year will just have a varsity. I know a lot of other teams are struggling with numbers too
so just hoping to get everyone some varsity good quality minutes this year.
Yeah, I was going to say so that gives you an advantage. You've got a pretty full bench then
to rotate players, don't you? Yes, we do. Yeah, hoping to get all of them in each game
especially more as we get into the season and everyone fits within the formation and
understand each position. Who's playing keeper for you this year?
Yeah, so we haven't quite decided on our first keeper right now. We have two
Andrea Nundal and Olivia Donnell are both playing keeper right now.
