I am Philney with WRCO sports. The Wisconsin State indoor track and field championships took place
on Saturday. Several local athletes were invited to this prestigious meet and among them Richland
Center's Duncan Harper who finished with a time of 724 overall in the 60 meters also in the 400
Robert button with a 54-1 and Pearl Fretz in the girls 1600 ran 604-29. Danica Paul's 14th in
the pole vault with a 10-foot vault and Devon Woodhouse 15th in the pole vault with a 12-3.
Ethica Weston's Clayton Lee with a finish in the boy 1600 with a time of 449-93.
The Richland Center baseball team played four games in Kentucky during a spring break road trip
last week. They lost 13-3 to Wing County last Tuesday. They fell 3-2 to Marion County on Wednesday.
On Thursday, they were defeated 13-0 to Campbell'sville High School and on Friday,
they suffered a close loss to Mercer County High School 4-3. The Hornets returned this week
with a game scheduled for tonight at Austin. The Richland Center's softball team also makes a trip
to Austin this evening. Both Hornet teams will open Southwest Conference Play later this week
with a softball team hosting River Valley on Thursday and the baseball team entertaining the Black
Hawks on Friday. River Valley tonight will be home for baseball against Phenomore and with softball
they will take on McFarland. Both games begin at 5 o'clock at the River Valley Sports Complex.
Riverdale will be in action tonight at home at Pickering Park. Riverdale baseball team will
battled DeSoto at a non-conference game and in girls' softball, Riverdale will be home against
Phenomore. Those games begin at 4.30 this afternoon. And at Ethica Baseball and Softball,
the Bulldog slated to host Wasika Stuben in the conference opener for both fields. And I talked
to baseball coach Kyle Kelly about what has gone well in practice. A lot of upper-classmen,
so there's a lot of things that we already kind of know how to do. We've been able to get a lot of
really good quality reps in pretty much every area of the game just because he experienced we have.
Maybe have much chance to play outside yet. We've been outside for every practice but like two.
Kyle Kelly and Aaron Hipshtake over the program. Dan Clary retired after last season with the Bulldog
Baseball program. Kyle Kelly talked about the ridge and Valley and how it looks for this year.
I think it's going to be pretty competitive at the top. The Soto is always good. Never come out,
Sonica or Weston. Like I said, I think as a whole it's going to be a relatively competitive
conference. We'll have the game today whether permitting at Ethica, the Bulldogs playing host
to Wasica Stuban. And that will be with the first pitch time at five o'clock. We'll be on hand
for the baseball action tonight. Gabriella Hakez with 21 points and Lauren Betts added 16 as UCLA
around in South Carolina. 79 51 Sunday to win its first NCAA championship in women's basketball.
The near record lopsided victory completed the Bruins journey through this year's March Madness
that started following laws to Yukon in last season's final four. The Bruins ran through their
opponents this season with their only laws coming in November to Texas in a Thanksgiving tournament.
They finished the year at 37 and one. The Bucks were in action yesterday. Both teams were missing
several starters, but the Bucks hit more than 60% of their shots in the 131-115 win over Memphis.
The Grizzlies have dropped 17 of their last 19 games. Milwaukee was also 16 of 32 on three
pointers. Ryan Rollins was the team's top scorer with 24 points. Miles Turner had a double double.
The Bucks visit Brooklyn coming up on Tuesday night. The other note for the Bucks is the fact that
the NBA is accusing them of not letting Yannis Antenicubo play when he is ready to play and wants
to play. Coach Doc Rivers. The tough part about all this is I'm in the middle when I have nothing to
do with it. Coaches don't decide any of this, but the problem with our league is the coaches are
the ones sitting out front and we have to see her and answer this stuff. And I think there are two
sides to this. I will tell you that, but I don't want to get too involved in it. Coach Doc Rivers
who talked about the possible NBA investigation. They're not going to call me about this. They know
I have no decision making in this. And if they have decided or started talking to us, this is the
first I've heard it. So I don't even know that. No shit, I, but I just don't like that this is so
public and it shouldn't be. This is where grown men get in the room and they talk it out, whether they
agree a discreet, that doesn't matter, but this should not be public. Former Bucks forward,
Marcus Johnson is still waiting for his place in the name Smith basketball Hall of Fame.
He was notified that he's still on the outside by a phone call late last week. Johnson was named
all NBA three times during his 11 year career. The average more than 20 points and seven rebounds
per game. The journal sent a reports. This was the second straight year. He was a finalist,
but was not included. Doc Rivers will be going into the name Smith Hall of Fame.
Other NBA games, Boston 115 Toronto 101, Phoenix over Chicago, 120 110, Brooklyn over
Washington, 120 115 Cleveland, 117 Indiana, 108 Oklahoma City over Utah, 146, 1111,
Charlotte beat Minnesota, 122, 108 Orlando, 112 New Orleans, 108 Dallas, 134, the Lakers, 128,
the Clippers, 138 Sacramento, 109, and Houston over Golden State, 117, 116.
The Brewers took the rubber game of a three game series in Kansas City Sunday, 85.
Catcher William Contreras had a double in two runs batted in while first baseman Gary Sanchez
contributed a two run homer. Kyle Harrison picked up the win, Trevor McGell with a chance to slam
the door of the ninth and he did for his third save. Milwaukee opens a series in Boston tonight
with Brandon Woodruff scheduled to start the game. So the Brewers success so far winning all their
series on the season stems from the ability to score runs with two out. Here's manager Pat Murphy.
These guys know that two outs means you're two thirds done with the inning. That's it. That third
is always a lot. There's a lot left. Two outs for them too. Today, two outs proved to be the
yesterday too. Two outs proved to be a big part of every game. So it's a nice thing to have.
And Brewers, pitcher Kyle Harrison talked about working on his improvement.
For sure, I think it's hard to say that. I think I'm just doing the best I can each and every
day trying to be the best version of myself and that's all I can do. Just go out and execute
pitches and make sure the work in between starts is send me up for that. Also yesterday, the
Cubs defeated Cleveland one nothing Pittsburgh eight Baltimore two San Diego eight six over Boston.
Miami beat the Yankees seven six Cincinnati two one over Texas Cleveland six the Cubs five
St. Louis five three over Detroit in the American League Tampa Bay four one over Minnesota.
The White Sox three Toronto nothing the Angels eight Seattle seven athletics 12 Houston 10
and from the National League, the Dodgers eight Washington six Colorado four one over Philadelphia.
The Mets five San Francisco two Arizona six five winners against Atlanta. And that is an update on
sports. I am Filney.
