I am Philney with WRCO sports. Over the weekend, the boys basketball sectional final games
were played. Southwestern edged a assumption to make it to state 44-43. Also, Shaboy
and Lutheran got the win against Barnabelle 64-57, and Lake Mills was a victor against
Lancaster 85-53. W-I-A state boys basketball tournament of the projected times are now released
135 Thursday Division III features Seymour against St. Croix Central. Lake Mills will play
recene St. Catherine's. That night Thursday night, Bondwell versus Cambridge, and Milwaukee
Juno takes on Regis. Division V on Friday morning, Reed'sville will battle Shaboy and Lutheran
and Prentice Place Southwestern. Division II Friday afternoon, slinger versus McFarland,
and West Salem takes on Whitefish Bay. In semi-final action for Division I, Friday night,
Wisconsin Lutheran plays Appleton North, and appear will battle Madison Memorial. Five
champions will be crowned on Saturday. The state girls basketball tournament over the weekend,
one Division I was won by Arrowhead, a very exciting double overtime game, 80-74 over
Walla Tosa East, Whitefish Bay, capture the Division II crown, 64-63, over Beaver Dam.
Usberg, a winner against Wisconsin Dells to win Division III, 64-37, Nielsville 43, Albany
Monticello 40, to win Division IV, and Division V won by Patchelli, over a leave of strum 70-40
the final score. Southwest Conference is out with its all-conference girls basketball
selections for this past year. Lancaster and Platteville were both nine-and-one to capture
a co-conference championship. River Valley was six-and-four, Dodgeville four-and-six, Prairie
Toshine two-and-eight, and Richland center O-N-10 in the Southwest Wisconsin Conference.
First team, all conference members include Lexi Olmstein, Lancaster of Freshman, who was
a unanimous choice to the first team. Addison Morgan also of Lancaster as a first
teamer, Platteville's Avery Richard and Rihanna Die, both named to the first team, they're
both juniors, and River Valley senior Brooklyn Stokes makes the first team. Second team,
all conference, including from Dodgeville, Abelene Bartz, Lancaster's Maddie Driscoll,
Platteville's Quinn Temperely, from Prairie Toshine, Claire Kennedy, River Valley junior
Ella Myers, and sophomore Brooklyn White. The other dimension players include Dodgeville's
Marley McGraw and Emma Dordy, Lancaster's Kylie Olmsted, Platteville's Serea Stone,
and Layla Schuler, from Prairie Toshine, Kristen Nolan, and Cameron Napp. Richland center's
Elevy Weiss is an honorable mention this year, along with Kylie Burns, Elevy and Kylie
are both juniors, and River Valley sophomores, Isabella Divini, and Kalea Blakely both sophomores.
Also the sportsmanship awards given to Lydia Riley of Dodgeville, Lancaster's Katie Murphy,
Platteville's Maggie Rabont, Prairie Toshine's Carly Kramer, Jory Schultz, Richland center,
Heidi Hegglin of River Valley, who received a sportsmanship award. The player of the year,
freshman Lexi Olmsted of Lancaster, and the co-coaches of the year, Courtney Feller
of Lancaster, and Brandon Temperely from Platteville.
The Badgers are seated fifth in this season's NCAA March Madness tournament. The day before
you lost Saturday's game in the Big Ten tournament semifinals, with Michigan hit a tie-breaking
three-pointer with four tenths of a second left. Wisconsin was the only team in the conference
to beat the Wolverines during the regular season. Austin Rap hit six three-pointers all in
the second half to lead you W with 18 points. The Badgers will play a high point Thursday
afternoon as a part of the West Regional in San Jose, California. Coach Dregard talked
about the team's improvement. Where we were back in November, December, in a lot of
the prognosticators in January had us not in this tournament, and we've been on an
ascension from mid-January on, and just how they've improved, how they bonded together,
how their toughness has grown, how their connectivity has grown. We've had individual players take steps
forward. I can't name anybody that hasn't gotten better.
Coach Dregard says the team still needs to make improvements.
As a message always is, we've had to work for five, six or more months to get to this point.
Like I said, it doesn't just happen here in March. This journey started a long, long time ago,
and we have to continue to get better and continue to be the best version of ourselves as
we go forward into Thursday.
In other basketball news, it was a win for the box yesterday, Yana Santhana Kubo scored
31 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as the Bucks outscored Indiana 134-123. That production
and 8 assists were accomplished before Yana's was knocked out of the game with a knee injury
near the end of the third quarter. Bobby Portis also put up a double-double with 29 points
and 10 rebounds in the game.
Definitely wasn't one of those games where we wanted to just lose this one, especially
being at home, especially got Cleveland coming here. I think they lost the Dallas tonight,
too, so they're going to be hungry, try to get a win, so it was important for us to come
out, you know, ready to night, get the win, but most importantly, just keep getting better.

Elsewhere, junior forward, Kelly Garbantenko's hat trick, powered the Wisconsin women's hockey
team to a six-nothing win Saturday afternoon. The set-out victory qualified the badgers
for their fourth straight appearance in the Frozen 4. Coach Mark Johnson's team is shooting
for a second consecutive national title. Its first game in the Frozen 4 will be Friday
against Penn State.
There were no big flashy moves, and nine players did leave Green Bay in free-age and moves,
but there is some sentiment that the Packers are ahead of NFC North opponents when it comes
to free-agency. Signing defensive lineman, Javan Hargrave and quarterback Benjamin St.
Choose to strengthen the defense, keeping center Sean Ryan was a solid-cost-saving move,
and only the bear's signing of Super Bowl safety, Kobe Bryant is significant, but the
losses of Kevin Byard and Jake Juan Brisker limit Chicago's improvement, the Viking signed
quarterback Tyler Murray, but made no other big changes.
Brewer's lost exhibition baseball yesterday, final score 7-1 against San Francisco. Elsewhere
St. Louis 6-3 over Washington and the Dodgers beat the Cubs by a score of 14-8, and the
world of baseball classic continued. And Aaron Judd says the world baseball classic has
become baseball's biggest stage. He says it's bigger and better than the World Series.
