I am Phil Ney with a look at sports W I a a division three boys basketball tournament
openers tonight. They are regional quarter final games. Several teams with buys in the
area, including Varroqua, Mauston and Mineral Point games that will go on tonight in
that bracket. Wisconsin Dells is at Lodi Westby plays at Dodgeville. It's River Valley doing
battle at Plattville. The Black Hawks and 11th seed, Plattville a sixth seed. The team split
during the regular season and River Valley lost by just a point. The last time the two teams played,
but Plattville has the higher seed River Valley is there tonight. And Richland Center a 13th seed
plays at number four Lancaster. I ask Coach Brian Poles about the arrows.
Well, they bring a lot of experience. They've got a senior class that has played a lot of
varsity basketball, especially their top three. Zach Khermson is I think the conference MVP will
find that out. I think in a week or so, but just a really really good player at these averaging
21 a game. He's a shot maker. He can get to the rim. He can shoot the three. He can hit tough
mid-range shots. And then they've got a few shooters scattered around him. Taylor Williams
is, you know, their glue guy. He's aggressive on the glass. Again, another guy who likes to get
to the rim athletic. So it's a tough match up for us. I think at stretches at times over the first
two games that we played them this year, we've done a really nice job. We've got to avoid our
stretches, our little walls. And those are really, they come in three, four minute stretches.
We've got to avoid the foul trouble so that we can continue to play the aggressive physical defense
that we know is is is needed against a quality team like this. So that's our focus. We got to come
in. Protect the basketball. Figure out the refereeing and play without fouling and just make them work
for it. All the pressures on them. And we just got to take a possession by possession and see
where we get it. I asked Coach Poles if the Hornets are ready to go for tonight's game.
For the most part, I think we had one, one tweak in injury. Jaden Layton, the game against
Platteville, tweaked his back. So he's been getting some treatment over the weekend. We hope to
have him full go. You know, other than that, I think we're, I think we're in solid shape.

Independence, Plum City Elmwood at Wony Walk Center, LaFarge, Youth Initiative at River Ridge,

Wasek Astuban opens tournament play at Kikapu. It's also Benton and Disoto and Weston at North
Crawford, Potosi Castville hosts Bosca Bell. Riverdale is at Southwestern and number nine seed
Ithaca is at number eight seed Seneca. There should be some just real good battles tonight on the
first night of the WIA playoffs. The winners of tonight's games will play in the semi-finals on
Friday night at seven. The WIA girls tournament is into the sectional level this week. They'll play
again on Thursday night with winners to play Saturday afternoon. We also have church league volleyball
going on tonight. Night number two of the tournament. The winner of the Monday seven o'clock game plays

Yannis Atteta Kumpo on Monday night. The two-time MVP and his bucks were buried by the Boston
Celtics one hundred eight to eighty one. That's three straight losses by at least twenty three points
for Milwaukee. Yannis played twenty five minutes scoring nineteen points to go with eleven rebounds.
He had missed fifteen games. The bucks cut the deficit to nine points shortly after half time
but Boston answered with fifteen straight points of their own. Here is Yannis talking about his
comeback. Right now I'm the honest with you. I'm just I'm just happy that I'm out there. I've
dealt with three injuries this year. I'm just happy that I'm doing what I love. Obviously I think
we got twenty four games left. We just got to take it the game at a time. We know we dropped three. We
have Atlanta, Utah and one more. I don't remember who else but we just got to come out high-tensity.
Hopefully I can be in a better rhythm. Have the team better and try to win the next one. Milwaukee stays

Tyler Black Jackson Cheerio William Conferris Joey Ortiz Carlos Rodriguez
Bryce Tarang Abner Uribe and others will be a part of the WBC that means rookies like
jet Williams and Jefferson Kiro will get more at bats and innings in the field WBC games start
at the end of this week. Media reports indicate former Packers special teams coordinator Rich
Basashi. Oh, maybe headed back to college. Wolfels press box dot com reports that Rich could take a
position at Clemson under his friend head coach Davos Swinney and sports illustrated reports
that will be a new situation for Basashi. Because he's been coaching in the NFL for the last twenty
three years. He was at all miss during the 2001 season, but the college football landscape has changed
dramatically since that time. I am Phil D. That is an update on sports.
