Time to take a look back at yesterday.
Day one of the state wrestling tournament, Bill Twining has more.
W-I-A-A state wrestling tournament got underway
at the Cole Center in Madison on Thursday.
The 83rd annual edition for the boys
and the fifth tournament for the girls of fourth time.
They've been held in conjunction with one another.
Here's how things went for area wrestlers on Thursday.
Richland Center with a pair of seniors in the girls division,
Madeleine Muller and Kaley Spilde.
Muller won her first match, 10 to nothing,
over Naomi Permudo of Stock Prairie, Wisconsin Heights.
But then lost her quarter-final,
and is in the consolation bracket,
along with Kaley Spilde, who dropped her opening round match.
They each have a chance to wrestle as high as fifth.
For Richland Center, Boscobel, Wazika, Stupin,
with Peyton Sander in the girls division,
Ashton Yvahova, four division three boys,
both lost their first round matches
and are in the consolation bracket for Boscobel,
Wazika, Stupin, in this tournament.
Riverdale Chiefsons have five wrestlers here at state,
all made it through the first round unscathed,
including Brody Mies, Wyatt Tram,
and James Tram, all with first-round victories,
while both Lakota Brewer, with a second seed
and Matthews with a seeded second,
had buys in the first round.
The quarter-finals, though, on Thursday night,
difficult for Riverdale, only Grant Matthews,
able to emerge with a victory,
he scored a technical fall in a quick quarter-final
late in the evening, after both Wyatt and James Tram
dropped their quarter-finals early,
and then Lakota Brewer and third-seated Brody Mies,
both lost their quarter-finals.
Mies, a seven-five, tough loss,
through Boscobel of Cedar Grove, Belgium,
is now in the consolation bracket.
He is a three-time state place winner,
both Mies and Brewer were in the state finals a year ago,
and play second, this year can do no higher than fifth.
North Crawford Seneca here in the tournament,
just one wrestler, she is Adrienne Lowe,
for the girls at 185,
and one both matches by Penn,
she is in the state semi-finals tonight,
at the Cole Center.
I look at Grant Highland's freshman Rowan Altman,
lost her opening round match for the girls,
she's in the consolation bracket,
along with tie cuts for the boys,
who lost his first round match,
and Wyatt Huffman, who won his first match,
but then lost his quarter-final.
Iowa Grant Highland does have three boys,
in the state semi-finals tonight,
sophomore Griffin Wineskeep,
at 106 pounds,
defending state champion Jackson Bussey,
a senior at 165,
and junior Brock Hinderman,
junior at 175,
all in the state semi-finals for Iowa Grant Highland.
Mineral Point with two girls,
and seven boys here at state.
Yourself things went for the girls on Thursday.
Tatum James, a sophomore,
lost her first round match.
Senior Delia Collins,
a three-time state place winner,
won her opening round match by fall,
but then lost her quarter-final,
and is in the consolation bracket for Mineral Point.
For the boys, Samuel Springer,
lost his first round match,
the other six all won,
but in the quarter-finals on Thursday night,
in the state quarter,
Mason Scullian, Emmett Collins,
and Jacob Demenberg all lost,
and are now in the consolation bracket.
The point where he do have two boys,
in the semi-finals tonight,
at the Cole Center,
sophomore Trig Riley,
and sophomore Liam Perry,
both won twice on Thursday.
Badgeville has three boys wrestling,
and this year's state tournament,
all will be in the semi-finals tonight.
Senior Nathan Johnson is posted a pair of victories,
due to your Shane Rashan,
seated second at 120 pounds,
scored a technical fall in his quarter-final match,
and senior Hawkins Peterson,
a three-time state champ,
won by a tech fall in 44 seconds,
in his quarter-final,
as he shoots to be a four-time state champion.
Our area wrestling teams,

are tonight at seven o'clock
at the Cole Center,
in Massachusetts,

71-62 over LaFarge Youth Initiative,
for the Bulldogs Devonheim had 27,
Kate and Keller, 19.
In the Ridgehead Valley elsewhere,
Seneca 84, Western 61,
Isaac Jennings had 26,
for Weston.
