First of all, recapping high school wrestling from over the weekend.
The girls' sectional tournament was held on Friday.
The determined individuals will be representing this weekend at the state individual wrestling
tournament.
Richland Center and a pair of state qualifiers, both seniors win sectional titles.
Kaley Spilde at 100 pounds and Madeleine Muller at 120, senior Abigail Williams won three
matches to capture third place at 132.
It is on the doorstep should something prevent one of the two girls of head of her from
taking part at the state meet.
Three other Richland Center wrestlers bowed out in the first round, senior Valerie Fawber
and Junior's Mariah Abbey and Annabelle Sloan.
Buscabell was eco-stuban as a state qualifier in sophomore Peyton Sander, who placed second
at 107 pounds.
North Crawford Seneca has a pair of girls at the sectional, senior Adrianna Logue won
the title at 1-85, well Junior Harper-Gogas won her first match but then lost twice.
River Valley had three sectional qualifiers, sophomore McKenzie Sholti won two matches to
reach the finals, but then fell twice to three times state qualifier Alphia Eckdall as
well.
River Valley will not have a representative at the state individual girls tournament
this weekend.
King Louis Farge, youth initiative had four sectional qualifiers, but Alphia lost their
first round matches.
Iowa Grant Highland, able to advance one of two girls to state as freshman Rowan Altman
took the championship at 114 pounds.
The WIA State Wrestling Tournament scheduled to begin Thursday and run through Saturday
at the Cole Center.
The girls will be wrestling as early as two o'clock on Thursday afternoon.
Varia Division III, sectional wrestling team tournament was held Saturday at Cashton.
At the Cashton team sectional, Aquinas and Lancaster received first round buys.
Meanwhile in the quarter finals, Prairie Dushin defeated Riverdale 46-29 and Iowa Grant
Highland posted a 63-16 win over Boskebel was EcoStuban.
Boskebel was EcoStuban was able to join that chance to win the next round.
Varia Lewin just three matches on the mat, quarter final loss to Iowa Grant Highland.
In the semi-final round, Aquinas was nearly flawless, amassing an 82-0 win over Prairie
Dushin, while Iowa Grant Highland and Lancaster went down to the wire before IG Highland held
on for a 41-38 victory.
The slim win at the championship match between Iowa Grant Highland and Aquinas, Aquinas
logging a 47-30 win.
Under teams joining Aquinas and the qualifying for state team tournament to be held next
weekend at the LaCrosse Center, our Mineral Point in Division III, Evansville and GE
Team El Rosmendoro, Division II, and both Holman and Wanakee in Division I, the wildcard
teams should be announced early this week.
Elsewhere in Boys Basketball on Saturday, Westfield, the winner against Prairie Dushin,
64-56, West Salem over Varroqua, 74-37, and Luther over Westby, 84-63.
Boys Basketball pairings were announced yesterday for next Tuesday's opening round of the
WIAA tournament.
Riverdale will be at Southwestern, DeSoto at Benton, Bosquibel at Potosi Castville,
Wozika Stuban is at Kikapu.
Highland will host Belmont next week, Ithaca will be at Seneca and Weston at North Crawford.
In Division IV, games include Broadhead at Belville, Cubicity Host Prairie Dushin, Wisconsin
Heights at Deerfield, Phenomore is doing battle against Lincoln Academy as well.
Also from the area, in Division III, Richland Center will be on the road at Landcaster,
Hornets through a 13th seed, they'll play number 4 seeded Landcaster eros.
Varroqua will be at New Glarris, Dodgeville will be hosting Westby.
River Valley at 11th seed will be at number 8 Plattville, and also Wisconsin Dells will be at
Lodi. Mineral Point and Mauston both received first round buys.
Division II, Readsburg will be at Barrow Boots who will open tournament play,
and Portage will be at Milwaukee, Lutheran.
There are games scheduled tonight in area boys basketball.
The night before the girls tournament gets underway.
Boys regular season games tonight, Royal at Bangor, North Crawford at Black River Falls,
Nassita at Brookwood Hillsboro at Cashton.
It will be Westby playing at Varroqua, New Lisbon at Waniwak Center,
and LaFarge Youth Initiative at Wisconsin Heights.

Seneca is at Riverdale, Dodgeville at Barnabelle, and Wasika Stuban is playing Belmont,
as well in boys basketball.
New Glarris at Darlington, Highland at Iowa Grant,
Mineral Point plays at Plattville, and Landcaster at Scholesberg.
We have bowling scores to report on from over the weekend, Youth,
bowling action, Girls High Series, Jocelyn Adams, 541, Abbey Weagle of 393, Jocelyn Adams at
a 198, Abbey Weagle A156. Top series for the boys, Kaden Keller, 603, Kale Conner,
553, Logan Felton, a 539. Top game, Kaden Keller with a 236, Logan Felton, a 233,
James Layton with a 224 in Youth, bowling. A 4-2 win Sunday over St. Cloud State,
clinched yet another WCHA regular season title for the Wisconsin Women's Hockey team.
That's the 11th for the story program. Lacey Eden scored four goals in the weekend series,
including a hat trick. She is the top score in Women's College Hockey with 68 points.
The badgers open the WCHA playoffs Friday at home with a series against Bemidji State.
No miracle was needed. The US had topped the world of hockey for the first time in nearly a half
century. Jack Hughes scored the winning goal and over time, and the US defeated Canada 2-1
in the gold medal game, flipping the script on the international stage and claiming the country's
third man's title at the games the first since the miracle on ice in 1980. Coach Mike
Sullivan talked about Jack Hughes and the goal he scored. Jack had a terrific tournament,
you know, from the first game on. The goals he scored were big time goals. You know,
it's an emotional rollercoaster when you go through these experiences. And I just think
Jack was at the center of a lot of the good things that happened for our team. He's a high
stakes player. You know, he brought his very best when the stakes were the highest.
In basketball news, Nick Boyd's 27 points led the badgers to an 84-71 Big 10 conference win
yesterday. The Iowa Hawkeyes had trimmed the lead to just three points at 68-65 when Wisconsin scored
10 straight behind three pointers from Austin rap. Three of them. In fact, the badgers shot 54
percent from the field and were good on 10 of 24 three pointers. Wisconsin is back into action
Wednesday against Oregon. Here's coach Greg Garth. He was really happy with how we responded and
some adjustments and things in the second half defensively tweaked some things and we're able
to keep some of the middle ball screens that they do so well under control a little bit better.
And then defense led to some offense and obviously Boyd was terrific. A disappointed home crowd
in the Pfizer form watched the bucks drop a 122 94 decision against Toronto yesterday.
The loss to the Raptors ended a three game win streak. It was just the second loss at eight games
from Milwaukee. Kevin Porter, Jr. and Ryan Rollins scored 21 points apiece in the defeat.
Janice Antiducupo missed his 25th game. The Box O's Miami coming up on Tuesday night.
And Packers quarterback Jordan Love is rated the 37th best NFL player by pro football focus.
Love just finished his 30 years green base starting quarterback and this is his second time to be
ranked among the top 101 NFL players. PFF ranked him second among qualified passers and his
big time throw rate was also second behind Matthew Stafford. His overall passing grade was third
in the NFL and he was one of seven quarterbacks to finish the season with a passer rating above 100.
The Brewers will be back into action and spring ball today will have a game on WRC E FM 107.7
and AM 1450. Yesterday in the Inter League play it was Kansas City over the Brewers 7-3. Milwaukee
lost two games over the weekend. San Francisco is a winner for two over the Cubs. I am Phil Nee
