Looking at local sports, first of all, today in Voice Basketball, Luther over Westby,

84-63. Small dusting of games today, as the boys basketball tournament is going to wrap

up right around the corner, they'll wrap up the seating tomorrow. That is in WIAA Girls

Basketball begins on Tuesday night across the state, the boys basketball tournament,

the following Tuesday night. Today it was team sectional wrestling across the state

of Wisconsin. Bill Twining has more about the tournament at Cashton.

The area WIAA Division III boys team sectional wrestling tournament was held Saturday at

Cashton. Six teams were involved. The top six finishers at the Brookwood sectional

from the previous week. Top two seeds Aquinas and Landcaster received buys. There were two

matches wrestled. Prairie D'Shean took on Riverdale and Iowa Grant Highland, basketball

was Eco-Stuven. Here's how things went in the first match in the quarterfinals Prairie

D'Shean was a 46-29 winner over Riverdale. The black hawks benefiting from three pins and

two technical falls and accepted three forfits from a short-handed Riverdale team, which

was without state tournament qualifier Lakota Brewer, who was nursing an injury.

Chieftains who were able to pick up wins on the mat were Wyatt Schram, a technical fall

at one-hundred-six pounds. Both Hunter Wilkinson and Brody Meece scored falls for the Chieftains,

who also benefited from a pair of forfits. James Schram at one-hundred-thirteen pounds

and Grant Matthews at 285, but not enough for Riverdale, bowing out into quarterfinals

at the team sectional 46-29 at the hands of Prairie D'Shean. In the other quarterfinal

that was wrestled, it was Iowa Grant Highland posting a 63 to 16 win over basketball

was Eco-Stuven. Basketball was Eco-Stuven only to win three way classes, benefiting from

pins from Junior Ashton Yudelhoeven and Senior Job-Wetter and also a major decision from

freshman Canaan-Wetter, but Moscow-Bell-Wazika-Stuven falls to Iowa Grant Highland 63 to 16. That

moved both Prairie D'Shean and Iowa Grant Highland into the semi-finals against Aquinas

and Landcaster respectively. The Prairie D'Shean Aquinas match was no match from the beginning.

Aquinas scored an 82 to nothing win over Prairie D'Shean for the winning blue goals of Aquinas

eight pins, a major decision and accepted five forfits from Prairie D'Shean, which was defeated

in the semi-finals 82 to nothing. In the other semi-final, this one went down to the wire and was one

and the very last match by Iowa Grant Highland 41 to 38. Iowa Grant Highland went into that final

bout at 157 pounds with a six-point lead over Landcaster 41 to 35 and even though Junior

Traten-McLiamonds of the flying arrows posted a victory 11-9, it wasn't enough for Landcaster

and Iowa Grant Highland posted a 41 to 38 win. The dual meet began at 165 pounds with a pin from

defending state champion Jackson Bussey of Iowa Grant Highland. Brock Hinderman scored a

technical fall for the winners. Griffin Wineske was a pin winner, also scoring falls for Iowa

Grant Highland Wyatt Hoffman, freshman Oliver Christensen, Hayden Altman and Max Kelly to lead Iowa

Grant Highland to a 41 38 semi-final win over Landcaster. Landcaster bounced back to beat Prairie

D'Shean for third place, but in the championship match, it was Aquinas prevailing 47 to 30 over

Iowa Grant Highland and winning the team's sectional championship at Cashton on Saturday Aquinas

taking first picking up individual victories for Iowa Grant Highland in the championship loss

where Brock Hinderman, a junior at 175 pounds scoring a fall, sophomore Griffin Wineske, also with

the first period pin, freshman Wyatt Hoffman scored a fall and that brought Iowa Grant Highland

to within closing distance. They trailed 35 to 18, but needed to win the final four weight classes

to do so. We're unable to do that. Aquinas posted wins at 144 and 150 pounds to put the dual away

and then forfeited to Brian Yeleneck and Jackson bussy of Iowa Grant Highland with the win

under their belt. The Aquinas bluecolds win the team's sectional championship Saturday at Cashton.

Iowa Grant Highland takes second by virtue of a previous win over Landcaster and Aquinas now

goes to the state team tournament. The first weekend in March, Iowa Grant Highland will wait and see

if they might draw that at large birth for a team that qualifies for state that is not a team

sectional champion. We'll see what happens. Reporting for WRSTO Sports and David Wormand, I'm Bill

Twining. Thanks Bill. Well, number 24 Wisconsin takes on the Iowa Hawkeyes after Braden

Carrickins scored 20 points in Wisconsin's 86 69 loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes. Sunday's

matchup is the first of the season between the squads. Wisconsin is 10 and 5 against the big 10

and Iowa is 9 and 6 against conference opponents. Tip off at the Cole Center will be at 3 o'clock.

You'll be able to hear the broadcast on WRCE 107.7 and AM 1450. Pregame will start at 230.

Michigan is the number one overall seed in the preliminary rankings by the committee that will

select the 68 team men's field for the NCAA tournament. The Wolverines were joined by Duke,

Arizona and Iowa State as the number one seeds in the reveal show on CBS. The cyclones got the last

number one seed ahead of Yukon and Houston. Saturday's reveal is a snapshot of where things stand

with less than a month left until selection Sunday. Generally, the teams listed above the cut line

for a top four regional seed stay there. Selection Sunday is March 15th. The final four is in Indian

apolis. Today, Minnesota defeated Rutgers by a score of 80 to 61. Ryan Rollins made a career high

7-3 pointers and scored 27 to help the Milwaukee Bucks beat the New Orleans Pelicans 139-1 18 last night

for their third straight victory and sixth in seven games. Jordan Stolls has missed out on his

chance to become the first man since 1994 to collect three gold medals in long track speed skating at

one Olympics. He finished fourth in the mass start today behind 40-year-old champion,

Jorat Bergsma of Netherlands. Bergsma is the oldest man to win a speed skating gold and he adds

that to his bronze in the 10,000 meters earlier at the games. The gold and the women's mass start,

the last speed skating event at these Olympics also went to a Dutch skater. The United States and

Canada facing off in the gold medal game in Men's Hockey on the final day of the Milan Olympics.

Eileen Goo is chasing her first gold of the 2026 games in the rescheduled women's Olympic free ski

half pipe final as well. And Bill Nasrowski, the Hall of Fame second baseman, who won eight gold

glove awards for his steady work in the field and the hearts of countless Pittsburgh Pirates fans

for historic walkoff home run in game seven of the 1960 World Series has died of the age of 89.

The Pirates announced his death today. Pirates owner Bob Nunning says Masrowski who died on Friday

was one of a kind, a true Pirates legend. The Pirates retired Masrowski's number nine in 1987.

The club had a statue of him erected on Bill Masrowski Way in 2010.
