Sock Prairie, what a boys basketball game at Richland Center last night.
The Eagles improved to 11 and four on the season with a 66-37 win over the Hornets.
Richland Center struggled on offense with a 20-to-1 run by their opponent before half-time,
making it difficult to have any thoughts of a comeback.
Eagles were led in scoring by Lincoln Gancer and Bowden Brining, which had 11 points for
players at at eight points each, including Brendan Markwart, Otis Andrews, Braun Meier,
and Jamison Paukner.
Sock Prairie had five three-point baskets and went 14 for 22 from the line.
Richland Center was led in scoring by Brady Dosh with 13, while Jaden Shep at 11, Will
Wise scored five, Grayson Clements, Deacon Hies, Liam Fingerson, and Conor Stoltz all
had two.
The Hornets made five three-pointers and went four for nine from the line.
Coach Brian Poles announced yesterday the Hornet Junior, Kaizen Switzenberg, will now
be sidelined for the rest of the season after a previous injury.
The JV-1 game belonged to Sock Prairie as they held off the Hornets 58-30 in the early
game.
The Hornet varsity is now four and nine and will return to action on Thursday night as
they rematch with River Valley.
Richland Center won the first game of the season against the Black Hawks, Sock Prairie
will play at Mount Horib for its next contest.
In other boys, basketball last night, Iowa Grant over Ithaca, 68-49, River Valley 66
for Okwa 38, Phenomore 54-43 over Highland, Platonville got the win against Showsberg, 89-57,
Westby 53, Prairie Dushin 37, North Crawford over Weston, 98-43, Potosi Cassville 67-45
over Seneca, Royal 45, New Lisbon 36, Hillsboro 77, and Brookwood 67 for Hillsboro, it was
Miles Ravenscroft with 26, Braun Gersley added 22 as well for the Tigers.
Eagles were in the scenic gloves, Bangor 79, Cashton 49, Dodge Hill was winner over
Bellville in an on-conference game by a score of 87-57, Wisconsin Nells beat Watoma, 68-61,
Aquinas over Sparta 95-60.
Girls basketball is Eka Stuben over Ithaca, 57-33, Riverdale with a win, they found themselves
trailing 17-9, a few seconds into the second half, they were able to take an 8-point deficit,
turn it into a 30-19 lead in under 6 minutes and maintain that lead for most of the second
half as they improved to 4-5 in the SWAL.
Riverdale was paced by Macy McCays, 21 points, Bailey Harris scored 9 on the evening,
Allie Gofflin and Lily Barr both knocked down a triple and finished with 5 points of
peace, Hayley Schneider and Caitlin Meece each added a free throw to round out the scoring.
The Lady Cheefens looked for their 10th win of the season and to even their conference
record at 5-5 Friday night when they host Boss Cabell.
In other action last night, Boss Cabell lost a mineral point, 73-31, Darlington 58-38
over Phenomore.

A wrestling quad was hosted by Ithaca Weston at Ithaca High School last night.

Keeshawn Nixon has been named the pro bowl for the first time in his career.
He replaces Devon Witherspoon of the Seahawks, who will be playing in the Super Bowl.
Nixon started all 17 games for Green Bay, piling up 72 total tackles, three tackles for
loss, recovering a fumble and intercepting a pass.
An interception preserved the 28-21 win over the Bears last December.
Edge, Russia, Micah Parsons was also named to the team, but won't be able to play due
to an injury.
In other football news from yesterday, Mike McCarthy at a press conference, and he was introduced
as the new Pittsburgh Steelers coach.
One of the questions that came up, would he accept Aaron Rodgers back as quarterback?
Definitely.
I mean, obviously, while you wouldn't, but I think just like anything, you know, no one
there long enough going through seasons, you know, I think when guys are up at that stage
of the career, they need to step away and decompress it.
I think that's very important.
The game is so emotional, you know, what these men commit to and what they put into it.
I think that time away is important, you know, and I have spoken to Aaron, and so that's
really where we are there.
Who knows?
Maybe they'll be reunited and it feels so good in Pittsburgh.
