there are games scheduled for tonight. We'll read the list. There are a few that probably

going on at Weston Schools on Saturday. Bill Twining was there. The annual Ithaca Weston
invitational wrestling tournament was held Saturday at Weston High School. Weathering the absence
of Richland Settlers wrestlers, there were 10 teams that competed despite the inclement weather
and the tourney ran smoothly. For the second year in a row, the Holman Varsity reserves took
the team title, bolstered by five individual champions. Holman totaled 301 and a half points
while Sock Prairie Wisconsin Heights in its first appearance at the Ithaca Weston invitational
was a distance second with 213 and Verona was third with 202. The Riverdale Chieftains wrote
on the shoulders of four champions and took fourth place as a team with 182 points and host
Ithaca Weston place fifth with 130 and a half. Rounding out the scoring were Oosterberg,
Parkview Albany, Rhinelander, River Ridge, and Blair Taylor.
Riverdale's four champions were led by two-time titleist Brody Mies and Grant Matthews, both seniors.
Also winning titles for the Chieftains were junior Lakota Brewer at 150 pounds
and sophomore Wyatt Schram at 106. Sockmore James Schram placed third at 113 pounds
while three teammates all juniors placed fifth, Grant Sturdyvent, Colton Perrin, and Wilhelm
Buchholz. Ithaca Weston was led by junior Blake Bingham who swept the competition
and won the title at 138 pounds. Senior Derek Franson reached the finals and placed second at 144
while freshman Braxton Fowl was third at 157, freshman Spencer Nelson fourth at 175,
and two teammates placed fifth, Karek Thompson at 113, and senior Ashton Bennett at 150.
Four individuals were repeat winners at the Ithaca Weston Invitational on Saturday, Brody Mies
and Grant Matthews at Riverdale, senior Liam Richards of Oosterberg, and sophomore Rex
Landcaster of the Holman Varsity Reserves. Brody Mies was a 16 to four major decision winner over
Derek Franson of Ithaca Weston in the final at 144, and Grant Matthews scored a technical fall
over Ethan McIntosh of Verona at 285. For Ithaca Weston, Blake Bingham scored a fall in the final
at 138, his fourth pin of the tournament. Other champions Saturday included Brian Brian
of Suck Prairie Wisconsin Heights, Brennan Oth and Jackson Goonsler Soda of Verona,
and the Holman Varsity Reserves 5, Brendan Henderson, Rex Landcaster, Brock Needham,
Olly Strosser, and AJ Allish. Other notes from the Ithaca Weston Invitational on Saturday saw
a fourth place finish from Holman Freshman Owen Lambries, the son of Richland Setter
recent Hall of Honor wrestling inductee Justin Lambries, a runner-up effort from Ethan McIntosh
of Verona, the son of UW Athletic Director Chris McIntosh, and a championship effort from junior
Brennan Oth of Verona, the son of two-time state champion Jason Oth of Royal High School.
A highlight of the day came just before the placement matches when five individuals were
inducted into the Ithaca Weston Wrestling Hall of Fame. They included Wayne Osborne, Richard
Walt Smith, Jim Chappell, Gary Anderson, and Mike Dre. Wayne Osborne was responsible for getting
the wrestling program started at Weston High School in 1960. Richard Walt Smith started the Ithaca
Wrestling program in 1963 and served as the school's first wrestling coach. Jim Chappell
coached Weston Wrestling for five years, 1964 to 1969. Gary Anderson posted a career wrestling
record of 60, 20 and one before graduating from Ithaca and then wrestling at the UW Richland.
And Mike Dre was a two-time state runner-up for Weston in 1989 and 1990,
putting together a career record of 72 and 14 wrestling for the silver Eagles.
Reporting for WRC Radio Sports and David Wormand, I'm Bill Twining.

The Packers have reportedly reached an agreement on a multi-year extension with head coach Matt
LaFlor. Details of the deal have not been released. CBS Sports reported that there have been
questions about the coach's future after the collapse against the Bears. Those have been answered.
LaFlor calls his situation in Green Bay one of one saying it's a very unique situation.
There was plenty of football drama and action over the weekend. First of all, Matthew Stafford
and the Rams survived an incredible throw by Caleb Williams that forced over time,
beating a Chicago Bears 20 to 17 to advance to the NFC championship game.
Harrison Mevis kicked a 42-yard field goal in overtime after Cam Curle intercepted a deep pass
by Williams on the Bears' first possession of the extra period. Stafford completed a 16-yard pass
to Puka Nakua to get the Rams into field goal range and set up Mevis. The Rams will visit NFC
West rival Seattle, coming up Sunday in their first trip to the conference championship game
since 2021 when they won the Super Bowl. Drake May threw three touchdown passes. Marcus Jones
returned one of CJ Stroud's four-hitterceptions for a touchdown and the Patriots defeated the
Texans 28-16 to advance to the NFC championship game for the first time in seven years. They will
play at Denver, coming up Sunday. Their last NFC title game trip was during their run to their
sixth Super Bowl title in the 2018 season. May had finished 16 of 27 were 179 yards.
The Big Ten conference has had a chance to have a third consecutive national championship
in college football when top-rated Indiana squares off with tent ranked Miami in Miami.
The Hoosiers are a perfect 15-0 on the season after securing blowout wins over Alabama and Oregon
in the Rose and Peach Bulls to advance to tonight's championship contest. This is Indiana's first
title game appearance in program history. The underdog Hurricanes silenced Texas A&M upset last
years defending champion Ohio State and came back to edge Ole Miss in one of the hardest college
football playoff paths to date. Miami is playing for its sixth national title. Kickoff time is set for
630 this evening. The Badgers had a nice win over the weekend. Guard Nick Boyd led Wisconsin
to a high scoring win over Rutgers Saturday by pouring in 32 points. The Badgers have won four
games in a row. Boyd's three pointer and two free throws help Wisconsin build a 14-point lead
with three minutes left in the game. He also had nine assists. The Badgers are off until Thursday
when they travel to Penn State. A pair of struggling teams meet today in the NBA during Martin Luther
King's junior day. In Atlanta, the Hoax have lost three straight games. The visiting bucks have dropped
four out of five. There was a brief surge when Yana sounded a cumpo return to the lineup,
but the team has not only been losing lately, but it's been losing big. Atlanta is reportedly playing
without three significant players. That tip off time noon today, and I'm Phil Ney with an update
on sports.
