The Southwest Wisconsin Conference dual meet wrestling tournament was held Friday night
at the Richland Center high school field house.
It all came down to what amounted to a championship match between Lancaster and Belmont
Platefill in the final match of the evening.
And the team's actually tied when 132 pounder eight and Wigel of Belmont Platefill pinned
his opponent to create a 42-42 tie with Lancaster.
Each had to head about in the dual meet resulted in a pin and Belmont Platefill had seven
pins to Lancaster six, but the flying arrows benefited from not having any four fits,
winning a match based on criteria 43-42.
Individual for Richland Center junior Brock Barrett at 132 had three pins and one four
of five matches wrestled, senior Ethan Bindle had three pins and a three and two record
at 215, while sophomore Kate and Stibi at 138 also went three and two with a pair of
falls and a major decision.
River Valley had a pair of wrestlers with four and one records at the duels, senior Blake
Brickle at 190 and junior Max D'Aru at 150.
Brickle had a pair of pins on the night while D'Aru had three of them, teammates Mason
Schulte and Ty Larson were each three and two for the Black Hawks who opened with an exciting
first round win over Dodgeville, trailing the Dodgers 33-22, upper weights Drew Reedle
and Colt Newbauer, log back-to-back pins to lift River Valley to a 34-33 victory.
Lancaster thus won the Southwest Conference dual meet tournament with a five and a record,
Belmont Platefill was four and one, Prairie Dushin took third at three and two, River Valley
was four, the two and three, followed by Dodgeville at one and four at host Richland Center
at 0-5.
There were a total of 12 wrestlers who finished the Southwest duels Friday night, unscathed,
three each from Dodgeville Lancaster, Belmont Platefill and Prairie Dushin.
The Dodgeville Unbeaten were Shane Roshan, Rhett Spurley and Hawkin Peterson, Unbeaten's
from Champion Lancaster, were Will Cratowill, Jackson Cyple and Nolan Hanky, perfect marks Friday
night from Belmont Platefill, came from Brooks Wigel, along with Dylan Wigel and Tyler
Kissamore and the three unblemished from Prairie Dushin, were Keaton Okenbach, Hunter
Reed and Jack Simmons.
Next up in the all-swall Southwest Conference clash will be coming up at the end of the month
between Southwest Conference and Swall teams.
It's a bit earlier this year, the clash will be held Saturday January 31st, also at the
RCHS fieldhouse.
So JV State qualifiers who are named over the weekend, River Valley has updated us.
They had a couple of wrestlers compete.
Jameson Ridge captured the 144 pound championship, punching his ticket to the WWE JV State
Championships in two weeks at Wasa West High School.
Luke Butteris battled hard finishing the day at three and two at 138 pounds.
At the Sock Invitational, Mason Schulte was fourth, Ty Larson a third place finish,
and Colt DuBauer rounded out the day with a sixth place finish.
River Valley's girls hit the mat Monday night at Lancaster with wrestling beginning at
six o'clock, and they will host the River Valley invite on Saturday with several area schools.
They have the boys and girls tournament taking place simultaneously.
This Sunday, River Valley will host the youth wrestling classic with first place finishers
getting to bring home a trophy.
They would love to see all local youth wrestlers coming up on Sunday at River Valley schools.
On Saturday and boys basketball, Mineral Point was a winner over Lancaster, 7772, Dodgeville
76, New Glarris 60, Platville won a game against Rockford Lutheran 6948, and Darlington
over Turner 66 238.
Girls basketball from Saturday, it was Platville over Mount Horib 70 to 66, Lancaster
beat Potosi Castville 70 to 17, Mineral Point over Barnabelle 60 to 47, but Shelley
beat Scholesberg 74 52, and Judah over Williams Bay 51 34.
Boys basketball tonight, a light dusting of games, Black Hawk at Barnabelle, our
guy at Peccatonica, Adams friendship at Point at Bangor Luther and Monroe is at Mount
Horib.
It will also be action tonight for Cashton at Westby, Verokwa at Brookwood.
New Lisbon is at Kikapoo, Highland at Wisconsin Heights, Plantville at Darlington, Lancaster
at Phenomore, LaFarge visits Basqueville Riverdale is home against one-a-walk center tonight
in Boyce Basketball, and Wozika Stuben makes up a game at Ithaca.
Girls basketball games, Verokwa at Wozika Stuben, Mauston at Hillsboro, Seneca is at
one-a-walk center, Lancaster at Southwestern, Ithaca Weston travels to Royal, and Portage
is at Richland Center, a game will have for you on WRCO coming up this evening.
Youth bowling on Saturday, Jocelyn Adams had the top girls series 535, Abby Weagle
at 2.97, Jocelyn Adams had a 1.99 high game, Abby Weagle at 1.15.
For the boys, Caden Keller is 6.38 series, Landon Westfall of 5.39, Logan Felton of 4.96.
For the boys, high game honors went to Caden Keller with a 2.31, Landon Westfall had a 1.90,
and O-Inferience, a 1.82 in youth bowling from Saturday.
The Bears established a record of coming from behind to win NFL games near the end this
season, and they made the Packer as their lead is victim Saturday, 31-27.

The Rangers were able to upset number 2 rated Michigan Saturday by a 91 88 score.
They became the first big 10 team to hit 15 three pointers in a road game.

It was the seventh time in the last 10 seasons for his team to upset a top 10 opponent,

Marquette fell just short of its upset bid against Villanova Saturday, 76 73, freshman Nigel
James Jr scored 31, connecting on seven of nine three pointers.
Marquette plays at St. John's on Tuesday.
Yesterday, number 16, Illinois got the win against number 19, Iowa, 75 to 69.
The Bucks fell to Denver 108 104 next action for Milwaukee comes up on Tuesday when they
will meet the Minnesota Timberwolves and the top rated Wisconsin women's hockey team
claimed a weekend series against Minnesota Duluth by winning Saturday's game, 5-1.
