I'm Phil Lee with WRCO Sports.
First of all, wrestling last night, Ithaca Weston was on the road.
I talked to co-head coach Troy Clary this morning.
Well, we were at Bernabou and we had La Crosse Logan Central was there with Bernabou.
Our first match was with La Crosse.
They ended up beating us 45, though, 33, but we gave up lots of 4-fits.
We had 8 matches, wrestling, we won 6 out of 8, so we wrestled well, then we wrestled
Bernabou and same thing we had 8 matches that actually wrestled him.
We actually swept him there and we won the duo 47-18, so overall with the 6-2 matches
that we wrestled, we were 14-2.
That's awesome.
Then you go into the weekend.
What about Saturday?
Where are you at?
We're at the Sock Prairie Invite.
Nice, big, close tournament.
Especially with the weather coming up, it's nice to have a close tournament.
We can travel too.
But it's a very tough tournament.
It's a signal to be just because there's so many teams there.
And a couple of local teams like River Valley and Riverdale are there as well.
What about the girls?
They're in the big kick of a tournament, aren't they?
They have the big lead Griffin this weekend on Saturday.
Yeah, the girls go over there to another good tournament.
Some kids have been leading the way this year of who do you consider your leaders on the team?
Well, a two seniors, Aston Bennett and Derek Cranford.
Aston just at Bernabou got his 100th win, so he was definitely one of our leaders.
And Derek, you know, since his freshman year has been improved so much, he's definitely been a leader on the mat and off the mat this year.
So it's been able to have them to be our leaders in a separate way, not resting them.
Plenty of wrestling action going on tonight at the Richland Center High School.
As it will be the Hornets Playing Host of the Southwest Conference duels.
Next week, I talk to head coach Wyatt Seep about the boys getting set for this duel meet night.
Yes, it is. It's real to have it at home. Richland Center's got a rich history in wrestling and anytime that we can invite the conference schools in to wrestle at our home territory.
That's always exciting, having the home fans there.
We're really excited to be able to host that tournament.
Well, you get a chance to wrestle everybody in one day, so you kind of have to be at your best Friday night, don't you?
Yeah, for sure.
Wrestling all those conference teams can, you know, having a duel with each one of them can make for a long night.
You certainly want to be at your best because it does come down to a lot of wrestling.
Action gets an aware out four o'clock this afternoon for the Southwest Conference duels.
Wayans will be at three in Richland Center High School.
There's a triangular tonight and Iowa grant, Riverdale and Darlington will be there as well.
The Riverdale girls basketball team claim victory over Richland Center 61 53 last night.
The game was competitive throughout with the Hornets battling back from a 17-boy deficit to get within seven midway through the second half.
After the Black Hawks built a more comfortable lead again, Richland Center battled back and lost by just eight points at the game's final buzzer.
The leading scores for River Valley were Ella Myers with 15, Brooklyn Soaks added 13, and Heidi Heggland had 12.
Rounding out the double figure scoring was Bella Davini with 10 points.
Also in the scorebook last night was Elizabeth Kastomsky with five, Brooklyn White, Kalea Blakely and Rosie Spawn all had two.
The Black Hawks struggled at the free throw line as they shot five for 22.
The Hornets had a balanced attack with Kylie Burns scoring 15, Ellevi Weiss 12, and Ella Clements totally 11.
Atty Bourd had eight, Taylor Wirt scored two and Ava Martin won.
Bourd Burns and Clements all made two three pointers.
The Hornets were 13 for 22 at the line.
River Valley won the JV-1 game 51-14 over the Hornets in the early contest.
With a 61-53 varsity win, River Valley is now eight and five overall, two and one in the conference.
They will host Plattville on Tuesday.
Richland Center is winless through three conference games.
They are two and 11 overall.
They will play at Wasika Stuban coming up this evening.
In other girls, basketball.
It was a win for Fenemore over basketball 45-31.
Lancaster 59-46 over Dodgeville and Plattville 64-31 against Prairie Dushin.
Highland 60, River Ridge 33.
Viralquabit BGT 64-39.
Wasika Stuban 43-26 over Seneca.
DeSoto beat North Crawford 76-16.
Darling 10-54-20 over Iowa Grant.
Mineral 0.53-34 against Southwestern.
Belmont defeated Benton 63-31 and McFarlane over Readsburg 60-39.
The Ithaca Weston at Kikapoo game was postponed until January 23rd.
And Riverdale was in action last night.

Riverdale leading through the first half against Cuba City.
Before the Cubans hit three consecutive threes and built a 16-point half-time lead.
Riverdale was led by Macy McKay 16, fellow senior Ali Goblin Squad 7,
along with Junior Josie Adams, sophomore Caitlin Meas Squad 6.
Haley Schneider and Mallory Meas each hit second half three-pointers.
Lily Barr and Bailey Harris each added a bucket to round out the scoring for the Lady Chieftains.
Riverdale fell to five in two and JV playing, losing 47-38.
Sophomore Caitlin Meas led the Chieftains with ten points in that game.
And in Boys Basketball last night, Lancaster handed Richland Center its first conference loss, 75-57.
Hillsboro winner against New Lisbon 69-48.
Royal Beat cashed in 83-25.
Belmont 68-60 over River Ridge.
Adams' friendship 79-Rippen 58.
Point at 63-48 over Wisconsin Heights.
And Boston beat Westfield 76-72.
Berlin over the Deles 52-37.
The high school basketball schedule tonight has Richland Center at Wazika Stubin and Girls Hoops.
Hillsboro at New Lisbon, Royal at Cashton, Nasida at Waniwak Center.
And in Boys Basketball tonight, a full night of games, including River Valley, hosting Prairie Dushin and Dodgeville at Plattville, Highland at Judah.
Weston visits LaFarge, Wazika Stubin at Senaqa, also North Crawford at Desoto.
And coming up tonight on WRC, it will be Ithaca traveling to Kikapoo.
I talked to Kikapoo Coach Matt Wood this week.
It's pretty unique not having a senior last year.
All those kids got to, or have been playing together now for a couple of years, the year prior.
We only had one.
So these kids have been playing and had a lot of experience playing with each other.
And I think we're starting to see the fruits of all their labor and hard work over the summer and through the last couple of seasons.
At the end of last season, we went on a pretty nice win streak at the end of the year.
So we had expectations, but so far, I think we've even proven or exceeded our expectations that we may have had at the beginning of the year.
The Panthers play host to Ithaca, a key conference game.
The Bulldogs are coached by Aaron Hipsch.
Every coach is going to say that the turnovers are a huge part of the game and we're going to have to control the ball and try to control the pace a little bit.
They have some guys that have hurt us in the past shooting the ball.
So closing out to this re-point line while also closing out under control and not getting beat off the dribble are going to be huge things and rebounding and free throws.
All the things that you need to do to win any game.
Your player Devon Ime has had a good year for you so far, hasn't he?
Yeah, he's had a great year.
He's certainly grown into his body and he's become a lot more confident basketball player, I think, because he's gone on and he's a four year varsity contributor.
So I think there's something to be said for just having that experience and knowing that he can take over games and he's certainly stepped up for us big.

In Boyz Basketball Iowa Grant at Darlington, Cuba City at Southwestern, Patosi Castville at

There are phenomenal bunches as well. They have a lot of experience on that team and then obviously
North Crawford is North Crawford. You know they're the perennial team in our conference so we'll
have an exciting game against them but yeah, I mean there's no soft teams in our conference.
I mean everyone's well coach has players that can beat you on every given night.
That was Kikapoo coach Madwood and here's Ithaca Boyz coach Aaron Hipsch.
You don't have any nights off and you know that's good though. It makes every game a game that
you can get up for and a game that the crowd can get up for and it's it's good to have that
edge or it gives you that edge going in the game that nervous bit in your stomach which
hums you channel at the right way and can certainly make the game a lot of fun.
This Kikapoo team I know you've been watching them kind of come together the last few years but
they've got to go on this year don't they? They do yeah and I mean you could you could see that
coming from a long ways away I mean they they certainly have I have the continuity as like you said
they they have the same group of kids that have been playing together for a really long time and
they have a good set of coaches that have built a really good program and and they're they're
a bunch of good kids too I don't have anything but good things to say about both that team.

Richland Center the meet started at four o'clock this afternoon there'll be five rounds as each
of the 16s will wrestle five dual meets we have scores from the first round to report to you
first of all it was a pretty sheen and Belmont platville coming down to the wire with Belmont
platville winning it at 3937 final in the first round here at the Southwest Wisconsin conference
wrestling duels river valley and dodgeville wrestled dodgeville jumped out to a 21 to six lead
river valley came back and won the match 34 33 on the strength of back-to-back pins from junior
drew redo and freshman cult new borer in the upper weights big win for river valley 34 33 over
dodgeville in the first round and Lancaster jumped out to a 24 to nothing lead over Richland Center
on its head back-to-back to back wins in the light to mid weights from Brock Barrett a pin
from Caden Stibby and a major decision from freshman Caden Gullens they're commanding Gullens I
should say back-to-back to back wins for Richland Center they closed to within 24 to 13 but Lancaster
swept the rest of the weights including upper weight wins over Ethan Bowdoin and Ethan Bindel
of Richland Center Lancaster wins the dual meet 63 to 13 so first round winners Belmont platville
river valley and Lancaster at the SWC wrestling duels round number two and we will have reports for
you a bit later on features dodgeville against Belmont platville landcaster against river valley
