The annual BISEC Classic Wrestling Tournament
got it away on Monday at the LaCrosse Center
action all day, 68 teams in the boys tournament,
74 teams represented for the girls.
Session number three of the BISEC Classic
gets it away at nine o'clock this morning
in the main arena at the LaCrosse Center,
semi-finals and further wrestleback activity
in all three divisions and in the girls tournament as well.
Later on today, the parade of champions
at 445 kicks off the championship session,
boys and girls with finals matches
on the elevated stage at the main arena.
Here's how things have gone for area teams
at the BISEC Classic, first of all for Richland Center.
They do have a second day qualifier for the boys
and senior Ethan Bindle at 215 pounds.
Ethan Bindle will wrestle today.
Ethan Bodendine's day came to a close late on Monday night.
He won three matches in the tournament,
but bowed off with a wrestleback loss.
The girls for Richland Center will have three place winners.
Seniors Kaley Spilde and Madeline Muller
each reach the quarter finals before falling.
They both bounce back with wins.
Each will place possibly as high as third
in the wrestleback round.
They are joined by sophomore Charlie Bailey
who has had a good tournament.
Three wins under her belt.
He will place possibly as high as ninth
in the wrestleback round today at the BISEC Classic.
For Ithaca Weston, they had two girls in the tournament.
Neither was able to advance to the second day.
The boys have two second day qualifiers.
Both seniors Derek Frenzen and Afton Bennett.
For Bennett, his tournament started with a loss.
He has bounced back with three straight pins.
Bennett and Frenzen second day qualifiers
for the Ithaca Weston boys.
Spencer Nelson, a freshman won three matches,
but bowed out.
Derek Thompson, Braxton Fowell,
and Ben Otto with a pair of wins,
but neither made it to the second day for Ithaca Weston.
The Riverdale Chiefsons had four in the quarter finals,
two won their matches,
and advanced side to the semi-finals.
Brody Mease, a senior at 144 pounds,
and Unbeaten Grant Matthews, a senior at 285,
are in the semi-finals for Riverdale.
Matthews has three 30-second pins,
and a technical fall in just a minute 12.
It's been that kind of a tournament
for the top ranked senior from Riverdale.
Also still wrestling for the Chiefsons,
our junior Wyatt,
or sophomore Wyatt,
Schram at 106 pounds in junior Lakota Brewer at 138.
Both reach the quarter finals before falling.
They are second-day qualifiers for the Riverdale Chiefsons,
and saw a junior dressed in renish
win a couple of matches before bowing out on Monday.
For the Rivervalley Blackhawks,
the last man standing his senior Blake Brickhold,
a tenth seed at 190 pounds.
He is the second-day qualifier for Rivervalley,
which saw both Mason Schulte a senior,
and Tyler's in a junior bow out Monday night
after three victories earlier in the day.
The Blackhawks will have a pair of girls
that will place in the tournament.
Mackenzie Schulte, a sophomore at 126,
and Raelin Reichsdale, a freshman of 145,
may place as high as third for Rivervalley.
For Kickapula Farge Youth Initiative,
Luca Gross, a junior at 100 pounds,
as reached the semi-finals for the girls,
Emerson Miller, and Maddie Townsend,
a pair of juniors bowed out earlier in the day,
and were unable to reach the second day of qualifying.
For the boys, Cody Johnson, a senior at 190,
and Bennett Coder, a senior at 285,
each one a pair of matches,
but bowed out the Kickapula Farge Youth Initiative boys,
saw their tournament come to a close.
For Boscow Bell, Wozika Stupin, a second-day qualifier,
and senior Job Wetter at 157 pounds,
Ashland Yulehoven, at 132, a junior bowed out
with a one-to-nothing loss,
saw his tournament come to a close after three victories,
and freshman Ruger Grum had three wins at 215,
before his tournament ended on Monday night.
For the girls, Ellie Jolene,
Helena Kreechi, and Brianna Rae,
all won two matches for Boscow Bell, Wozika Stupin,
before their tournament came to a close.
North Poffered Seneca, as unbeaten Adriana Logue,
in the semi-finals for the girls,
where Harper Gagas will also place
as high as ninth for North Poffered Seneca,
on the boy side, saw your swig him,
one three matches earlier,
reached the quarter finals he lost,
but is a second-day qualifier,
and will wrestle on Tuesday.
Iowa Grant Highland wrestling
without State Champion Jackson Bussey at Dubai State,
as one man Brock Hinderman in the semi-finals,
four wins for Hinderman on Monday,
also a second-day qualifier is sophomore Colton Williams,
at 150 pounds,
and for the girls, two wrestlers will place
for Iowa Grant Highland,
freshman Rowan Altman, at 114 pounds,
and sophomore Maria Schaefer at 138.
Mineral Point has semi-finalists for the girls,
Delia Collins, the top seed at 132 pounds,
for the boys, the second seed,
Jacob Danenberg at 165.
Both those are unbeaten,
and in the semi-finals for Mineral Point.
Placing for the girls,
they'll be four in addition to Delia Collins,
possibly as high as third,
sophomore Tatum James at 114,
freshman Abby Finley at 120 pounds,
and Junior Emily Heisner at 165,
while Junior Haley Yeager will be a place winner,
she's still going at 185 for the girls.
In addition to Jacob Danenberg of Mineral Point,
for the boys, second-day qualifiers,
include three that reached the quarterfinals before falling,
Memphis, Bertolter, Liam Carey, and Emmett Collins,
while two other made it to the second-day,
sophomore Samuel Will Springer at 138,
and Junior Mason Scully at 144 for Mineral Point.
Dodge Hill is wrestling without Shane Rashad
and Hawkin Peterson here at the Bayes State.
They do have a pair of second-day qualifiers
in Junior Red Spirley at 138,
and Senior Nathan Johnson at 144,
who reached the quarterfinals before falling,
and for the Dodge Hill girls,
there will be a pair of place winners,
sophomore Maya Marcliffe,
possibly as high as third, and one-hundred pounds,
and sophomore Jenna Johnson will place anywhere
between ninth and twelfth at 138,
Michaela Latre of a freshman at 114 for Dodge Hill,
one-three matches before bowing out.
There are a total of three wrestlers from Mauthor of Barnabelle
that are not only top-seated,
but unbeaten, and all in the semi-finals,
that's the highlight on day number one
for Mauthor of Barnabelle,
the team leader in Division Two,
no area schools in the top 10 there.
In Division Three, Chatfield, Minnesota leads away
from the area Mineral Point,
currently fourth, Riverdale Sixth,
and Iowa Grant Highland ninth at the Bayes State Classic,
where Mineral Point is also in sixth place
in the girls standing after day number one.
Wrestling begins at nine o'clock this morning
at the La Crosse Center with the semi-finals
for both boys and girls
and further wrestle back activity at the same time.

at Bangor yesterday in girls' action.
Darlington over Bangor 4539,
Stratford defeated Cochran Fountain City 64 to 27.
Hillsboro was a winner over Turtle Lake 6245
at the Denny Laramie Holiday Tournament.
Also at the Abnickolas Holiday Tournament,
won a key 78-55 over Plattville.
And in other action from girls' basketball,
Argyle Peckatana-Kabit-Laconia 56-53
and Barrowboo over Dodgeville 62-44.
LaCrosse Logan a winner against Readsburg 33-24
at the Sock Prairie Holiday Tournament
and LaCrosse Central defeated Sock Prairie 43-32 as well.

Barrowboo over Dodgeville 77-73.
Sparta was a winner 59-45 over Hillsboro
at the Adams Friendship Holiday Tournament,

At the Aquinas Holiday Tournament,
Northwestern over North Crawford 69-59,
Aquinas 86-34 over Portage.
At the Lodai Holiday Tournament,
Lodai 66, Cuba City 48, Darlington 77-46 over Cambridge.
Games going on today,
the Richland Center Boys Basketball team will be in action.
It is a makeup game with Prairie Dushin
that was canceled on December 18th.
So far during a holiday break,
it's been all games in no practice.
I ask Coach Brian Poles about that.
Yeah, if you ask all of them
that's their preference for sure.
And then I think you ask all of the coaches,
it's the exact opposite.
We like the stretch of practices
and we're come some different things.
So this again is another challenge with the schedule.
The reschedule with Prairie Dushin.
So fortunately for us,
we get a good night of practice in Monday night
before that game on Tuesdays.
Brian Poles, who says the team will need to play well
against a Prairie Dushin team coming in,
which has not won yet in varsity action.
For us, it's regardless of the opponent,
you have to respect the opponent.
We've got to come in with the mentality
that we have to do things right
and things that we know we need to do to be successful.
So what does that mean?
Obviously we've got to play intensely.
We've got to play hard.
The effort has to be there.
We want to pick up.
We want to try to speed them up defensively.
Good pressure on the perimeter.
I think we have an advantage there
with our guards compared to their guards
and their ability to handle that pressure.
And then offensively we've got to get the ball inside.
A paint touches for us are key.
Not only this game, every single game
we need to play inside out.
So those are the things we'll be working on
as we head into this game.

Girls basketball begins early today
for the RISL Center one day, holiday tournament.
I asked head coach Jeremy Kui of the Hornets about it.
We're hosting holiday tournament.
We have Royal Kikapoo and Westie coming in on the 30th.
And so we'll be able to get two games in that day.
We start off our first game against Royal
and Kikapoo and Westville play.
And then, you know, the two winners play
and the two losers play.
So it'll be just a nice day to get some basketball
in over the holidays without asking too much
out of the girls and the families,
taken away from the family time.
That action today at RISL Center High School
will be a busy place.

Michael Nipe was terminated last week
to tell us not released,
saying it was a personnel matter.
Nipe was hired in May of 2004 at the university.

Yana Santa de Cumpo added 24 and 7 assists
and the bucks defeated the Hornets.

Wisconsin's hopes for a three-peat
in the quick trip holiday face-off
were not realized the Badgers dropped
a four-one decision Monday
