Good morning. I am Philney with a look at sports, the original center boys basketball team
doesn't get a lot of time to rest over the holiday break as they'll be playing again today.
And I talked to coach Brian polls this week about his team being active and playing on the road
today. We'll have a little time to to rest up spend time with family, get some more practice time
and then have that Christmas break and then come right back out of it with two really great
games at the holiday tournament. Right, and do you know much about your opponents in that tournament?
Well, we haven't looked too closely yet. It's two Minnesota schools. One of the reasons I like
where we go for the holiday tournament, we go up to Winona, Winona State hosting the holiday
tournament. We get to play under the Minnesota High School rules, which includes a couple of
different things different than here in the state of Wisconsin. One of them being playing with a
shot clock and it's something that I've enjoyed over the last couple of years. I think it adds
an aspect to the game that I really like. The pace of play is pretty consistent. That second half
coming down the stretch. You can always have that message to your team that there's going to be
more possessions and keep working, playing defense. So it's a format that I like and we're looking
forward to getting the chance to play there again. Do they have quarters too with that shot clock?
Do they still have the haves? Still haves. I think the other big big difference is it's related to
the around the around the hoop. You know, you've seen the NBA. You've got that charge circle.
And there is there's a charge circle in the high school game in Minnesota. So our guys get a
quick tutorial on that and we're expected or we need to just adapt to it pretty quickly. And
last couple of years we did. I felt like we played really offensively, really good basketball
the games up there. And so I'm looking forward to that same experience.
The Horned Boys basketball team will play today at 245 and then tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock.
Also we're coming up toward the buy state wrestling tournament for boys and girls. That'll be
happening beginning with matches bright and early Monday morning at nine. I talked to Shane
legal head wrestling coach at River Valley about getting ready for a big tournament in which
a lot of folks will be involved in and he himself wrestled there when he was young.
It's an tournament that they're gonna remember forever. Not just in the sense of how big it is
or you know it's a cool environment one that you can wrestle in. Two you get to go up,
stay in hotel rooms, bond with your teammates. Really it's just a fun weekend for the kids
and don't get me wrong. I mean there's a lot of opportunities. I think there's 60 some teams
there this year. So one there's a lot of opportunity for teams that will never wrestle again.
But it's also something to go put your name out there, you know, and go prove to who we want to be.
River Valley wrestling coach Shane legal reports on how that tournament goes.
Coming up again on Monday and Tuesday the annual buy state wrestling tournament at the lacrosse
center in lacrosse. On the state scene at 23 to 10 win over the lions by the Minnesota Vikings
means the Packers are in the playoffs. Saturday's game between Green Bay and Baltimore still
as posties and implications for the Ravens. The Packers still have an outside shot at winning the
NFC North, but they have to win out and the Bears would have to lose twice. Both of Green Bay's
quarterbacks Jordan Love and Malik Willis are listed as questionable for Saturday's game against
Baltimore. And as far as the Ravens coach Matt LaFlordering his press conference this week
talked about the Ravens defensive line and how it's tough to run on them. They're massive and they
do a great job of of staying square playing blocks tough to move. I mean they're physical on the
perimeter on the on their edges. Obviously their backers are very physical too and you see it with
their secondary. So it's it's one of the more physical defenses out there. I think they are a
big time challenge to run the football against the Packers Xavier McKinney talked about bouncing
back after a loss to the Bears. We still got an opportunity to do what we want to do. So I think
that's really the biggest thing. We still had an opportunity. So we just trying to make sure that
mentally we're locking in and we don't want we got to do to be able to go out here on Saturday and
get a good win. Kickoff time seven o'clock. It's on the peacock network. We're going to of course
the WRC has the radio broadcast which is free. Well next ran for a touchdown and threw a go ahead
pass to RJ Harvey leading the Denver Broncos to a 20 to 13 victory over the chiefs. Next finish
with 182 yards passing helping the Broncos bounce back from last week's loss to Jacksonville.
The chiefs missing key players like Patrick Mahomes struggled offensively third string quarterback
Chris Oldecon and Travis Kelsey gave Kansas City a late chance, but they fell short.
The Broncos can clinch the AFC West title on Saturday. If the Chargers lose, Kansas City faces
more challenges with injuries impacting their lineup. And Dak Prescott threw for 300 seven yards
and two touchdowns on Christmas Day and the Cowboys blew most of an 18 point lead before
squeezing one out against the Washington Commanders 30 to 13 Dallas scored touchdowns on its first
three possessions to go up 21 to three, although the commanders twice got within a touchdown. They
couldn't complete the comeback yesterday. In other action from the world of sports, the Badgers
are ready to enjoy some home cooking next week's game against you'll be Milwaukee at the
Cole Center is the second of four straight games on the home court. Badgerman basketball unbeaten
there. Coach Greg guard squad carries an eight and four record overall while splitting two conference
games. Bench players appear ready to claim a bigger role in games, giving guard more depth to call
on. The in-state showdown with the Panthers is on the schedule for Tuesday. Games in the NBA
yesterday, New York, 126 Cleveland, 124 San Antonio, Beat Oklahoma City, 117, 102,
Golden State over Dallas, 126, 116 Houston was a winner against the Lakers, 19 96 and Denver,
one and over time over Minnesota, 142 to 138. Elsewhere in sports, the Badgerman's hockey team goes
for its fourth quick trip holiday faceoff in five years starting Sunday. The Badgers meet Lake
Superior State at 4 p.m. Then meet the winner of Western Michigan and Boston College Monday at 730.
The field for this year's tournament includes three ranked competitors for the first time.
Three Badger players, Luke Osborne, Logan Hensler and Quinn Finley will miss the tournament because
they're playing in the IHF World Junior Championships in Minnesota through January 5th.
The USA meets Germany coming up this afternoon. Marquets all American outside hitter Natalie Ring
is switching to national champion Texas A&M through the transfer portal. Ring made the announcement
on social media this week. The former Madison Edgewood high school star rated 25th nationally
with 497 kills last season. She helped lead the Golden Eagles to the second round of the NCAA
tournament. She's the second key player leaving Marquet following Freshman Center Isabella Hagerds move
to Baylor.
