The 62nd annual Richland Vittational Wrestling Tournament was held Saturday at the RCHS Field
House.
And exactly half of the events, 20 teams went away with an individual champion.
There were two new teams represented in each of those entries, boasted a title as well.
A top of the standings to the team that has been runner up each of the last two years,
as Gail Etrick-Trumpelow led the way with 212 and a half points.
The Titans had seven wrestlers, placed third or higher, and had one individual winner,
three time Richland Vittational Champion Colton Coss at 132 pounds.
Readsburg was second with 174 and a half points, and two titles, and three time defending
champ Iowa Grant Highland finished third this year with 163 and a half points.
Even though Iowa Grant Highland was unable to win a fourth straight team title, one of
its seniors became a four time individual winner, as Jackson Bussey swept to the title
at 165 pounds, becoming just the 14th wrestler to win four titles, and never lose a match at
the Richland Vittational.
A vastly improved squad from Boschabell, Azika Stuban, placed fourth with 118 and a half points,
and Belmont Platteville was fifth with 110 and a half, led by two time champion Dylan
Weigel at 144 pounds, who was named the tournament's most valuable wrestler.
Richland Center came away with an individual champion, a senior Ethan Bindle won three matches,
including a 7-3 decision over Tanner Degenhardt of Iowa Grant Highland in the finals.
Looking at how it went individual wise, Riverdale, a team beset by injuries in illness, had
just five wrestlers compete in the tournament.
Fans were senior Grant Matthews at 285, junior Lakota Brewer at 138, and sophomore Wyatt
Shram at 106, junior Tristan Renish placed sixth, and sophomore Mason Covars was eighth.
For Richland Center, a new head coach Wyatt Seap, senior Ethan Bindle was first at 215,
sophomore Blake Muller fourth at 157, both junior Brock Barrett and sophomore Caden Stibi
placed eighths.
For Ethica Weston, junior Carrick Thompson reached the finals and placed second at 113,
while three teammates won their fifth place matches, seniors Derek Franson and Ashton
Bennett, along with sophomore Braxton Fowell.
River Valley was led by a pair of seniors, who both won their third place matches, Mason
Schulte at 144 pounds, and Blake Brickle at 190, other Black Hawks to play Saturday were
Max Teru, fourth at 150, Tyler Larson, fifth at 157, and Nolan Fritchin, seventh at 106.
Boschabel was Ecastuban's effort, under coach Lance Wetter was highlighted by freshman
champion, Ruger Wall at 113, both senior Job Wetter and junior Ashton Yulehoven, one
second place medals, freshman Canaan Wetter was fourth, freshman Micah Fritz, and Ruger
Grum, both placed sixth, and senior Mason Johnson was eighth.
Iowa Grant Highland had just one individual champion, but saw 11 wrestlers earn placement
points.
Jackson Bussey won his fourth title, but both Tanner Degan Hart and former champion Brock
Hinderman lost in the finals, freshman Wyatt Hoffman finished third at 126, sophomore
Ty Cuts took fourth place at 190, freshman Oliver Christensen was fifth at 132, Griffin
Wyniske, Alexis Gaten, and Max Kelly, along with Briar Yeleneck, all finished sixth while
Colton Williams was seventh at 157, and for Hillsboro, two place winners led the way,
and senior Ryan McCoyick was fifth at 190, and freshman Ashton Jacobson, six at 106
pounds, at the annual Richland Invitational Wrestling Tournament.
Well turning to basketball, we'll have an action on the air tonight as Richland Center
plays at Riverdale, that's a makeup girls basketball game that was originally scheduled
for December 9th, pregame time 715 tonight on WRCL, elsewhere in girls basketball, River
Ridge at Boschabell, Phenomore at River Valley for both boys and girls, the girls game gets
underway at 6 o'clock, Royal at Black River Falls, Sparta at Varroqua, Nacusa at New
Lisbon, mineral point in Argyle, Peccatonica, Cuba City at Galena, Pittsville visits Adams
Friendship, Belmont at Warren, Sholesberg at Deerfield, Durand at Judah, Barnabeld at
Edgerton, Wisconsin delts plays at Lodi and Mount Horob at Monamony Falls.
In boys basketball, games scheduled tonight, WRCL at Wisconsin Heights, Peccatonica at Potosi
Castville, Black Hawk at Sholesberg, Cuba City at New Glarris, Judah at River Ridge, Argyle
visits Benton, Gilman Independence at Cashton, Varroqua Dodgeville, Kikaboo travels to
Lufarge and North Crawford at Hillsboro, Nacita is at Weston, Prairie Dushin at Mineral
Point, Albany at Highland and Phenomore is at River Valley, as mentioned in boys basketball
tip off time there at River Valley, slated for 730 tonight.
We do have girls wrestling results just in this morning, Kaley Spilde of Richland Center
and Madeline Muller placed third each out of 28 teams, and Annabelle Sloan made the
finals in the consolation bracket, a good day for the ladies for Richland Center, according
to head coach Darren Gunderson.
For the River Valley girls, they traveled to the Alliance Energy Center in Madison for
Badger State with Anacomadison taking third in the silver bracket.

There were some bowling scores as well, youth bowling on Saturday at the Phoenix Center.
For the girls, Jocelyn Adams at a 539 series, Abbey Weagle at 297, Top Game 235 Jocelyn
Adams, 124 for Abbey Weagle, and for the boys, Darren Kepler at a 560 series, Caden
Keller, 545, Kale Conner, 497.
For the boys, High Game Honors, Darren Kepler, 227, Caden Keller, 212, Kale Conner, a 203
in Youth Bowling Saturday.
After controlling most of the action, the Packers dropped a 2216 decision at Chicago Saturday.
A sack with three minutes left was weighed off by a face mask penalty, leading to a fuel
goal that cut Green Bay's lead to 169.
Then the Bears recovered an onside kick and tied the score before winning in overtime,
a possible concussion, sideline Packer quarterback Jordan Love.
Green Bay has been one of the best NFL teams at scoring inside the red zone, but it got
no touchdowns on five visits in this game.
The other story that has not been talked about a lot since that game is the fact that both
quarterbacks are injured.
Malik Willis also injured a shoulder in the game.
So they are looking at working him in and trying to get him into the first team practices
this week so that they can prepare for the upcoming Saturday game against the Baltimore
Ravens, who lost last night in a crazy game.
It was Rake May gaining New England, a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns rallying the
troops from an 11 point deficit to a 2824 victory over Baltimore that clinched a postseason
spot for the Patriots and dealt a devastating blow to the Ravens playoff hopes.
Elsewhere in the NFL, it was Buffalo 2320 over Cleveland, Carolina 2320 over Tampa Bay,
since an Addy 45 Miami 21.
The Chargers beat Dallas 3417, Minnesota 16, the Giants 13, New Orleans 29, the Jets 6,
Tennessee 26, nine over Kansas City, Atlanta 26, 19 over Arizona, Jacksonville 34, Denver
20, Houston 23, 21 over Las Vegas and Pittsburgh and Aaron Rogers, dealt Detroit a devastating
loss 29, 24, the final.
The box lost in a game yesterday against a Minnesota Timberwolves as they lost in
that contest and now will prepare for the upcoming game on Tuesday night.
That is the third straight loss for the bucks Anthony Edwards scored 24 and the Timberwolves
rode timely three point shooting in a 103 100 win.
