The 62nd annual Richland Invitational Wrestling Tournament will be held today
at the Richland Center High School Field House. A tournament record 20 teams will be
vying for the team championship trophy which has been won the last three years by the co-op from
Iowa Grant Highland. I have a Grant Highland heads the field along with two-time runner-up
Gail Etrick Treppolo Mel Rosemondorot. Belmont Plattville and Readsburg finished 3rd and 4th a
year ago. While area teams fared well Riverdale was 5th, River Valley 6th, Ithaca Weston 7th and
host Richland Center 9th in the final team standings. Those teams all return along with holdover's
Hillsboro, Boscobel, Wozika Stuben, Cashton, Verokua, Westby, Baraboo, Cochran Fountain City,
River Ridge, Toma and the Varsity Reserves from Holman. Two new teams enter the field for the first
time La Crescent Hoca, Minnesota and Sun Prairie West. Action is slated to get it away around 9 o'clock
this morning and continue throughout today with championship matches as early as 3 o'clock this
afternoon. Jackson Bussey of Iowa Grant Highland is poised to become the 14th wrestler to win four
titles at the Richland Invitational. Two other wrestlers also seniors look for their 3rd championship
today. Grant Matthews of Riverdale and last year's most valuable wrestler Colton Coss of GET
Melrose-Mendoro. There are five others competing who won titles last year, Blake Champlain of Toma,
Brayton Hale-Tumi of Breedsburg, Aaron Dunnigan of GET Melrose-Mendoro, and Brothers Dillon and
Briggs Weigel of Belmont Plattville. Runners up returning from last year include James Shram and
Lakota Brewer of Riverdale, Blake Brickle of River Valley, and former champion Brock Hinderman
of Iowa Grant Highland. Third place finishers returning include Brody Mease and Hunter Wilkinson
of Riverdale, Ryan McCoy-Kof-Hillsboro, and Griffin-Wanesky of Iowa Grant Highland.
River Valley returns Jackson Sheel and Ty Larson, both of whom finished fourth a year ago.
Ethica Westens led by Ethan Stoll and Hunter Moe, who both placed fourth last year,
along with fifth place finishers Derek Fronson and Ashton Bennett.
Busca Bell-Wazika Stuban returns Ashton Yudelhoven, who finished fifth, and Job Wetter,
who placed sixth. And for host Richland Center and new head coach Wyatt Seep, both
Kate and Stibi and Ethan Bodendine earned fifth place medals a year ago. Both Grant Matthews
of Riverdale and Jackson Busy of Iowa Grant Highland went on to win state titles last February.
The Richland Invitational also boasts four young men who reached the state finals last spring
and finished second. Colton Coss of Gail Patrick Trempolo Mel Rosman-Dorell, Dillon Wagle
of Belmont Plattville, and Riverdale teammates Brody Mease and Lakota Brewer. Three additional
wrestlers won third place medals at the state tournament, Nolan Owen of Barraboob,
Braden Hale-Tumay of Readsburg, and Nathan Henderson of Holman. While Brock Hinderman of Iowa
Grant Highland won three matches at state, including his fifth place boat. Prior to the finals
this afternoon, four individuals and one group will be enshrined into the Richland Center High
School Wrestling Hall of Honor. Headlining the individuals as 2000 state champion and three-time
state finalist Zach Many. He is joined by three members of the class of 2000, Matt Witterberg,
Zach Elliott, and Matt Maxwell. Also honored will be members of the first four years of Hornet
Wrestling under the late coach LeVern Piper during the years 1958 to 1962. Join us for reports
