Well, the girls basketball season began Tuesday night across the state of Wisconsin.
At Ithaca, it was the inaugural game for the new Ithaca Weston co-op as they hosted Riverdale
for a non-conference game. The Cheapkins prevailed 5749 in a very competitive game.
Riverdale led by eight in the first half before Ithaca Weston came back to tie it at 26.
Senior Macy McKay hit a basket at the end of the first half, and the Cheapkins went to
the halftime with a 28-26 lead. She would lead Riverdale in scoring with 17 for the game.
In the second half, the Cheapkins lead grew to 12 points before Ithaca Weston pulled
it within four in the last six minutes. Riverdale was able to hit some key shots near the end
to log the win. Senior Ali Goplin had 15 points, including three three-pointers.
Bailey Harris added eight. Lily Barr had six, including two three-pointers.
Haley Schneider added four. Jocelyn Adams had a three-pointer.
And Mallory and Caitlin Meece, each scored two. The Cheapkins were 5-4-11 from the free-throw line.
Ithaca Weston was led by junior JC Maxwell with a game high 20 points.
Jenna Hass and Kelsey Coleman, each put in seven.
Maley Plymer, Brooklyn Dickey and Faith Stinichka all had four points,
and Aspen Young scored the team's only three-pointer.
IW was 10-4-19 from the free-throw line.
Riverdale won the JV game 53-4 over Ithaca Weston in the opener.
Following the 57-49 varsity win,
Riverdale will prepare for its home opener against Sennaka on Thursday.
Ithaca Weston will play the home opener at Weston High School coming up Thursday night,
when the team will host Hillsboro.
Elsewhere last night, River Valley gets first win of the year with an 81-55 victory over
Lodi. Potosi Castville beat Boscabel 52-31.

Cashton 49-35 over Sennaka.
Verokwa beat Kikapoo 45-32.

Broadhead a winner against Cambridge 57-40.
It was Wisconsin Heights over Whitewater 63-20.
Wisconsin Dells beat Readsburg 76-33.
And Sparta over Mauston 58-56.
The Richardson Center High School Athletic Booster Club
is continuing the tradition of honoring individuals or organizations or teams
to be inducted into the Richardson Center High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
They are looking for nominations for inductees
as athletes, coaches or super supporters.

Again, the Athletic Booster Hall of Fame nominations are due

Box forward, Yannis Antidacumpo is expected to be out of the lineup
for one to two weeks with a low-grade left-growing injury.
Missing one week would keep him out for three home games,
starting with Thursday's contest against the Philadelphia 76ers.
ESPN reports that Milwaukee has lost two of the three games
when Yannis has not been on the court this season.
He is averaging 31 points and 11 rebounds per game.
LeBron James certainly didn't look like he had been away from an NBA court
for nearly seven months when he began his unprecedented 23rd season.
Even if his burning lungs told him otherwise,
after reaching another landmark in what is now officially
the longest career in league history, James was not surprised
to return from his lengthy injury absence by fitting in seamlessly
with assurging Lakers in yet another victory.
James had 11 points, 12 assists and three rebounds
while starting and playing 29 minutes.
In the Lakers, 140-126 win over the Utah Jazz,
kicking off his new season with an impressive playmaking performance.
Phoenix was a winner over Portland 127-110,
San Antonio beat Memphis 1-111,
Detroit 120 Atlanta 1-12,
Boston 1-13, Brooklyn 99,
and Orlando over Golden State 1-21-1-13.
The Packers' offense need to match its leaders performance.
The numbers from Sunday's 27-20 win over the Giants
sound unimpressive, 13 of 24 passes,
complete for 174 yards and two touchdowns for Jordan Love.
Profitball focus points out the four passes that receivers dropped
while giving Love a 93.1 grade for the game.
That's the highest grade for any NFL quarterback during week 11.
He was also more successful throwing down the field passes
than any other quarterback.
PFF says Green Bay's supporting cast has to be better
when the team takes on the Minnesota Vikings this weekend.
I'm sure Coach LaFloor would agree.
He talked yesterday about the important conference games coming up.
Obviously, the divisional games are absolutely critical
when you talk about this three game stretch,
but really all that matters is this one game.
I mean, we just got to focus on what's right in front of us
and that's to try to put together the best plan
to go out and play a team that I think is an extremely tough football team.
I mean, shoot, they put it on us twice last year.
So our guys will be motivated.
They'll be ready to roll, but we got to put in the work.
Man LaFloor with some comments on the upcoming game at home against the Viking.
It's going to come down to a couple of plays.
That's how most of the games are in this league.
And I've got a lot of respect for those guys over Minnesota.
I think they got a great roster.
I think they got a great coaching staff.
So it should be a great football game.
Hopefully our fans will show up and droves
and not sell their tickets to the Vikings fans
because we've seen that happen before too.

Veteran pitcher Brandon Woodruff has accepted the brewers qualified offer
to stay with the team for the 2026 Major League baseball season.
He will be paid just over $22 million under the terms of the deal.
Things are a little different this off season
because four of 13 players receiving a qualifying offer have accepted.
Over the last 13 years fewer than 10% of the players
receiving those offers have accepted.
Badgers guard John Blackwell's name is on this season's
John R. Wooden award top 50 watch list.
Blackwell is also on the college player of the year watch list.
The preseason old big 10 team and the Jerry West shooting guard of the year watch list.
UW Badgers dot com reports that he's averaging 19 and a half points a game
after putting up almost 16 per outing last season.
Blackwell and his badger teammates tried to stay on beaten when they meet BYU on the road
Friday afternoon.
Last night it was number five Duke over number 24 Kansas 78 66 and number 17 Michigan
state 83 to 66 over number 12 Kentucky.
Number 21 Arkansas over Winthrop 84 to 83.
