Travis Wilson from bound Wisconsin as I guess here on WRC Radio. So we look ahead at Friday
night football in the third week of the playoffs. Travis, let's start in division seven.
How about this cashed in team, which continues to impress a team that, you know, had some
struggles during the regular season. They made the playoffs, but I'm going to roll the
first two weeks and then win over Black Hawk Warren last week. I think it was one of the
biggest surprises of the playoffs. There's been other one season that have gone down,
but given the conference history with Black Hawk Warren, given that they beat Potosi
Cashville and they beat a very good River Ridge team earlier this year and they beat
LaZica Stuben. You know, I just, it seemed like it would kind of be what we've seen in
the past with generally, other than maybe a few years where Bangor was kind of at the
top, but, you know, the six rivers does a little better against the scenic playoffs in
the original Valley type of teams, but Black Hawk Warren showed some vulnerability in
the first playoff game. They only beat River Ridge eight to six as one versus eight seed
matchup and just didn't have enough against Cashton, who again has really stepped up and
come on at the end of the season and good to see. And now they get to go on the road once
again for the third time in a row, taking on Potosi Cashville.
Another team that is coming up from the lower ranks in division six, Belville, a seventh
seed, they're still alive, aren't they?
They were the Bel of the ball last year. They're one of the surprise teams again this year.
Although, you know, looking at what they did last year, the conference they come out
of, the competitive games they played, shouldn't be a huge surprise. They did beat an undefeated
Marcosand team in level one and beat them convincingly. Marcosand was one of the best
running teams in the state in terms of yards and everything, and they pretty well took
it to them in that first playoff game. And then last week, got a road game at Crandon
about as far away as you could possibly get. But I think a matchup that they were happy
to go to because they were able to get that win over a six seeded Crandon team. So now
they advanced to take on Garlandton, which is a different animal team that they lost to
once already this year and looking to reverse the fortunes of that one. But they weren't,
I don't know that they were your normal seven seed. So again, a great run, but Garlandton's
top. They lost the Garlandton in the last regular season game by three touchdowns. Is it
time for that fairy tale run to come to a close possibly?
The Garlandton team, there are so many names that you've heard from Garlandton's deep dark
pass. I presume these are some sons and grandsons playing now, right?
Yeah, I think they're only down to three or four crisp kids now, though. In your past,
I think they've had five or six or seven sometimes, it seems like, but it is a lot of
the same names that we've seen in the past in the recent past with siblings and going
back a little farther with the kids of some of the, you know, Garlandton legends over
the years. So they just keep pumping it out. Obviously, one of the best programs in
the state, the thing for them is, can they get over the hump to a gold ball? They've
had seven runner-up finishes in the last 30 years without a gold ball during that time.
So it's going to be interesting to see if they have enough to make that push. I think
they do. They're as good as they have done at any point over that time, but they've got
to prove it on the field. And again, get one against the LVL team. They already beat
this week.
In Division 5, a new glare has seen that we had on our broadcast schedule a couple of times
this year. I was pretty impressed by them defensively and how are they looking against
Lake Country Lutheran?
Yeah, defense has played well in the playoffs for a year or shut out in the first game,
gave up 13 points to a pretty solid, received Lutheran team last week. It had some good athletes
and some good experience. So that was an impressive win for them. And now another tough one against
Lake Country Lutheran, a team that has done really good for, you know, 15 years or so
now. Still a fairly young program. But, you know, it ratchets up every, every level
and every week of the playoffs gets tougher and tougher. And this will be certainly the
toughest playoff game that they've played. And maybe the toughest game, the new glare
has just played all year against Lake Country Lutheran.
A team that we saw a couple of weeks ago, Durand Arkins saw they put up a good fight against
Gransberg last week, but I see Gransberg came on on top.
Yeah, they did. Gransberg's undefeated. They've got a match up this week with an undefeated
Northwestern team. That's one of the more highly anticipated games on the schedule. I think
there's three or four undeatin matchups this week Northwestern, not too pleased to be
undefeated and have to go on the road here in a sectional final, but just kind of how
the brackets worked out and should be again a great game.
Moving to division four, this Aquinas team is the real deal as well, aren't they?
It certainly are. If not really been challenged in the playoffs, we're challenged very much
in a regular season. But they will be challenged this week. They take on Baldwin Woodville,
who was the runner up in division four last year, lost a division one player and Gavin
Sell, who did a lot for them from last year's team. But they have kept firing. They were
undefeated in the middle border conference, which is arguably the best D4 conference in
the entire state. And the black box looks very good once again, going to be a tough one
for Aquinas. Again, one of those undefeated matchups and one of the better, more anticipated
games on the schedule this weekend.
What about Columbus and Mozeny and the other side of the bracket?
Columbus is only lost one to Aquinas earlier this year. Otherwise, they've kind of run
rush-shot over their schedule as well and pretty well took it to everybody in the capital
conference, which is we know is a pretty good league with Lake Mills and Lodi and some other
teams in there. So, you know, I think they're pretty strong. Favorite Mozeny comes out
of a great Northern conference bit. Isn't necessarily the strongest, but it does have
some larger schools in there. There's some D3 schools in that league. Mozeny really
relies heavily on trev-stop for the senior quarterback and defensive back. He does a lot
for them both sides of the ball and running and throwing. So that'll be the biggest challenge
for Columbus this week.
Moving to Division 3, this Mounthor a Bonneville team has scored quite a few points in the
playoffs so far.
They have. They've got all kinds of talent. They've got multiple Division 1 players. The
quarterback, the D1 player, their linebacker, running backs, the D1 kid, their tight ends,
the D1 kid, all seniors. And then they've got a junior offensive lineman that is a Division
1 prospect as well. So they've got all the talent to do so. They had a couple losses in
the regular season though. They went down to Grafton who's undefeated in an early non-conference
team and then got taken down by Edgewood during the regular season. So a chance for them
to get a little bit of redemption here in the playoffs. I mean, it was a solid season,
but I think most people would have expected them to at least be an outright champion of
the Badger Small. But they've got a tough one this week. They take on Catholic Memorial.
Now the interesting thing about that, those teams met in level 3 last year as well. Mount
hor have had them beat. They just had to run the football out. I don't think they even
had that would have had to punt it. But there was a miscommunication on the snap. The
center snapped it. Nobody else moved. The quarterback kind of stood there wondering what
was going on. And it was a live ball. Catholic Memorial, Tatlin forced a fumble, got the ball
and ended up scoring a touchdown in a game they absolutely should not have won. So there's
some redemption looking that Mounthor of Barnabelle is looking for in that one for sure.
And your Readsburg Reversa must have been impressive win last week over Edgewood to Travis.
It was a good win over a top seeded Edgewood team down at Breast Even Stadium. Hard fought.
They were playing for their playoff lives and a lot of seniors on that group that were
trying to go out the right way. And certainly made some things tough on us. 20 points was
the least we scored this year, but our defense came up huge in that one and get us into
a sectional final level 3 here. So what stands out in the scouting report with
Piwaki this week? They're huge. They've got two division one linemen that go both ways.
In fact, they have another division one kid that's committed to North Dakota State that
is out for the year. So they've got three division one linemen, although again, only two of
them are playing this week. So that's going to be, I think, the biggest challenge on both
sides of the ball. You know, we've got to do the things that we do well to care to football.
And I think we've got a good shot though. Yeah, and you get them at home. That's great
advantage, isn't it? Yeah, not necessarily anticipating getting a home game in level 3 is a
4C, but here we are. We'll take it and looking forward to that opportunity. Sounds good, Travis.

played the rest center in Green Bay along with the boys tournament in the girls action yesterday
in the division four and five. First of all, Newman Catholic was winner over Florence and three
sets. Rib Lake swept St. Ambrose as well to move on to the D5 title and in division four,
Heritage Christian defeated Blair Taylor, three sets to none and Regis was a three nothing winner
over Montelo. Moving to bowling scores, the Coffee Clutch League series high, Holy Rollers,
1790, the 10 pins of 1786 and the three aces of 1743. Holy Rollers with a 648 game, 10 pins,
607, three aces of 601. Top series, Marsha Mahatka of 517, Marlene Gary of 472,
Paddy Labansky of 469. Top game, Marsha Mahatka of 199 and Maccavick of 196, Marlene Gary of 184.
Gene Nick split up the three 10 pick up. It was Deanne Kepler with a two seven split pick up
and Tammy Schwingle a two seven and a three 10 in the Coffee Clutch League.
