The WIA State Cross Country Meet is a real spectacle.
So many schools, so many teams representing all parts of the state are there.
From the WIA, Todd Clark talked about the event.
Yes, any state tournament where you have an individual component to an event, you're
going to have a lot more such as individual wrestling and track and field and cross-country
because that individual component enhances the team environment as well.
This has really grown Wisconsin Rapids.
They've been a great host for this event over the years, haven't they?
They certainly have and it's been here ever since I've been here, so that's 26 years.
So, always friendly people.
They've got the course marked well.
We set up about two, three days in advance and everything runs like a top.

During the day on Saturday, WIA Girls Division 3 results, Darlington won the team title.
The fastest runner was Brianna Vasquez, who was 9th overall.
Adelaide Brigette was 10th, Elena McGowan 13th, and Madison Malacca was 26th.
The Federal War Girls finished 5th, Carol Cartman was 14th, Natalie Horsefall 16th, Kylie
Mom 24th, and Julia Ganaga was 43rd.
Turning to Division 2, Mount Horab was the top girls team, just getting by McFarland in
the running.
And visually, we had a couple of runners from the area, including River Valley's Mollie
Mace, who was 76th overall, the sophomore running the event in 2055, and Alia Swem of
Roqua, a sophomore, ran it in 2052.
Turning to Division 3, boys, the top team was St. Ambrose Academy, Brookwood was 6th.
Cooper Powell was the 7th fastest runner at the event, running it in 1843.
August Rechaim was 14th, Sawyer-Stanerson was 38th, and Nolan Waddell was 55th.
And the Federal War boys finished 12th.
Bobby Schmidt was 17th, Griffin Fry 47th, Avery Rubish was 57th, and Riley Horsefall 63rd.
And then for the WIA cross-country boys, Division 2 teams, Shorewood was the top team, followed
by Kohler, Asiola was 3rd, Notre Dame 4th, Ford Atkinson 5th, Mauston was 6th, and Richland
center-Ithaca finished 7th.
Owen Dreyer finishing in the top spot, 19th overall, the Hornets struggle with injuries
down the stretch, and a 16-56 for Owen, Clayton Lee was 26th with the time of 17-14.
Ryan Stadler was 40th with the time of 17-40, and Robert Budden was 50th overall with the time
of 17-51. Those three seniors in freshman Owen Dreyer were the scores for Richland center-Ithaca,
which again finished 7th. Following the meet, I spoke with head coach Eric Mindham.
I thought that we got out quick, got out patients, settled in right where we needed to be,
through that first mile, where we wanted to be as a team, and the course gets tough that
second and third mile. So we faded a little bit, but overall, I thought we did handle the
course really well. You know, a lot of these teams get to come up here and race this course every
year, and we've got a couple guys that have been able to do that, but for the rest of the guys,
I thought we handled it pretty well, and just proud of them, proud of the hard work the season,
thought they did well. Big finish and eyes watch, and some of those times come in, you know,
Shorewood is up there, Kohler. I mean, they ran some amazing races today, didn't they?
They absolutely did. I mean, Kohler showed why they're three time defending champ, and Shorewood,
you know, why they got pushed up to division one here recently. So those are teams that are in
that mix every year. I'll see all those in that mix too, the 10 straight years at state. So,
you know, those are the teams to beat. Richland center, Ithaca head coach, Eric Mindham.
Again, the Richland center, Ithaca runners finished seventh as a team in the WYA Boys Division
to meet the WYA sectional semi finals, and finals were held over the weekend for volleyball
teams. The finals on Saturday night saw St. Ambrose defeat Peccatanica, three sets to one at
Barnabelle High School to move on to the state tournament. Also in division five, it was Newman
Catholic getting a three sets to one win over Highland in a match played at Riverdale High School
on Saturday night, and Blair Taylor advanced after a three sets sweep over Phenomore among the matches
in division four. Elsewhere in sports, the second team to upset the Packers this season pulled
it off at Lambo Field Sunday by a 16 to 13 score. Ryan Fitzgerald booted the game winner
of 49 yard field goal for the Panthers in the closing seconds. It could be a double loss for Green Bay
because tight end Tucker Kraft suffered a severe knee injury. The Packers offense got inside the
Visitors 35 yard line seven times, but came away with just two field goals and a one yard run by
Josh Jacobs. Matt Luflor was not happy with the loss. They played the game that they had to play
in order to beat us in regards to trying to run the football consistently throughout the course of
the game and just make us dink and dunk the ball down the field, which we were able to move the ball
and then played good defense in the red zone. We had the two turnovers missed a field goal, so we did
enough things just, you know, we deserve and they got her. Green Bay host of Philadelphia Eagles
on Monday night, a week from tonight. Elsewhere in the NFL, the Bears held on for a 47 42 victory
against Cincinnati, Denver 18 Houston 15, the L.A. charges 27 Tennessee 20 Minnesota 27 24
over Detroit, New England 24 Atlanta 23 Pittsburgh 27 Indianapolis 20 San Francisco 34 24
over the Giants in overtime Jacksonville defeated Las Vegas 30 to 29 L.A. Rams over New Orleans 34 10
and Buffalo beat Kansas City by a score of 38 21 last night Seattle was a winner against Washington 38 to 14.

The Wisconsin Badgers rated at number 24 in the preseason pole start the season at home against the
Campbell fighting camels tonight. Monday's meeting is the first this season for the two squads,
the fighting camels and Badgers tip off tonight at seven. Here's Coach Greg Garne. I'm more
concerned with our progression and our improvement, obviously from a matchup standpoint, I think
that it'll be a good matchup from that size wise we match up fine, but I'm more our focuses
on how we can get ourselves better faster and I think this group is individually really talented
collectively. We're not in sync yet. Here the game tonight on WRC E FM 107.7 and AM 1450
pregame time at 730. Senior guard Chase Ross leads the Marquette Golden Eagles into a contest against
Albany at the Thyser Forum for the opener for both of those schools this evening. The Wisconsin
men's and women's hockey teams took three out of four games against border battle opponent
Minnesota over the weekend. The men blanked the Golden Gofers Saturday to complete a sweep and
stay undefeated. The women bounced back from a Friday loss to roll past Minnesota 7-2 on Saturday.
The Gofers had ended UW-Zun beaten record the day before by a 5-1 score.
