I'm filming one of the big events last night.
Richland Center defeats Aquinas in lacrosse Richland Center
a sixth seed Aquinas a third seed lacrosse had one earlier.
This year for a two over Richland Center with the Hornets
would not be denied last night led by Yovani Serna and Harrison
Carpenter the Hornets scored the win five to two.
Luke and Durand scored the first two goals for the Hornets
Classic European style soccer and able to top shelf goals for the Hornets
Conner Stoltz added another goal for the year with a score of three two
Yovani Serna delivered on a professional penalty kick beating
goalie clean Sean Adams dominated throughout the game scoring the
fifth goal the Hornets advanced to the regionals on Saturday at
Amherst game time will be announced excellent efforts according to
coach time standler from Caleb federally Cody Paul's Josh Nelson
Nash Burkhammer and Jordan Johnson midfield played dominated by
freshman Andrew Mata Henry Martin Conner Stoltz Sean Adams
Langdon Williams and also some great offense by Lucas Durand
and Yovani Serna Andrew Melby at midfield Seth Gold on defense
as well everyone helped out as Richland Center scored the win.
They advanced to play again tomorrow in the WIA tournament.
River Valley was a winner yesterday in WIA division for play.
They scored the win five goals to none over Mayville and River Valley will
be hosting Brookfield Academy coming up on Saturday after they scored a
winning in central Wisconsin Christian for nothing in other games.
Nakusa Edged Adams friendship won nothing division three action.
It was Prairie Dushin co-op defeating Belleville new glarest three goals
to two and over time edgwood over Dodgeville middle point four goals
to none. The WIA volleyball tournament action last night in division
five. These were regional semis. It was Royal three sets to none
over North Crawford to show to three nothing over Hillsboro one
electric center one in four over Seneca Highland swept was Eka
Stuban it was Southwestern three sets to two over Potosi our
guy all swept Benton Belmont three one over Scholesberg
Peccatanica three nothing over Monticello Bonneville swept Catholic
Central in action in division five division four the year ended
for the Riverdale Chieftons. They lost at Brookwood three sets
to none cashed in three one over Wisconsin Heights fedamore swept
Iowa Grant Bangor in four over River Ridge in division three action
last night it was River Valley scoring the win they were up to nothing
lost a set to Belleville and then won the fourth three sets to one
middle point will be their next opponent on Saturday night
middle point swept Lancaster Marshall three nothing over Dodgeville
Darlington three sets to two over Cuba City it was Verocua three sets
to none over GT and it was a win in division two for Edgewood
over Plattville three sets to two reads were one in four over
Boston getting back to a matured on WRC all last night it was
Richland Center scoring the win they advance in the tournament to play
Luther on Saturday night in the regional championship game. The
Hornet volleyball team was led in blocks last night by Elevy Weiss
following the match I had chance to ask her about the victory three sets
to none over Westby I feel so amazing right now and I think
like I'm like shaking because of how happy I am I think just our energy
was so great tonight and I think that we really deserve the win.
You got you got some help I mean everybody was digging the ball really
well it just it wasn't hitting the floor very much. No I think digging
tonight was definitely our best as well like I think we all just came
together and really worked together because we know this could have been
our seniors last game we kind of just like we all we all just wanted to be
there for each other senior Danica Paul's also joined his last night on
the air talking about how the season has gone for the Hornets our team
this year is just so special to us and like we've grown to like love
each other and love playing with each other and it's just been such a
great season and I cannot wait for it to keep going. Yeah that's pretty
important in the sport of volleyball I mean you all got to get along and
it seemed like it was pretty pretty cohesive tonight wasn't it? Yes it
was it was so great like if we get a kill we're all in on it like it's not
just kind of one person themselves like we're all a team and it's so great
to play for. I mentioned you before we went back on the air here
that the first couple of hits by Westby I'm like oh this could be trouble
here tonight and then they did play well but was there a light ball that went
on was there a turning point that you can look back on Danica? Yeah I think
we kind of started out a little bit slow but then once we kind of got
going like we knew we could play with them because we went to their game on
Tuesday and kind of like watched and see how they played so just like
getting used to it and getting in front of our home crowd just really got us
going and I think that's kind of what the turning point was.
Michelle Center volleyball coach Jamie Johnson talked about how the team played
in that winner Westby. But everybody just played well I mean our passing
and servicie was great again the blocking just controlling that front line
Addy Wertz will send her up here too you know as well because of
freshman I think she probably even doubled her kills tonight for a season high
and she just came up clutch tonight she was not a freshman out there tonight
and her servicie was was fabulous but you know I felt we got pressure
to them I felt it's uncharacteristic they missed some serves and I can't
remember a number eights got one the toughest serves we've seen and we caught
a couple breaks and that set too and so we were we were appreciated to take
advantage of that break and and be able to finish it off.
The Hornets will play on Saturday night against a Luther in Onalaska
W-Y-A football playoffs get underway tonight Richland Center will be
on the road playing number two seed Stratford I talked to coach Andy
Troxel about the game.
We've got five games you know on video of them so we see some things that we
like and some matchups that we think that we can take advantage of but
really what's going to come down to is our ability to stain drives and
defensively just being able to stop the big plays I know they have one of the best
quarterbacks in division five you know and that's kind of been
archaeally healed season long for the Golden Game.
Elsewhere tonight Prairie Dushin host Westfield and River Valley is taking on
Durand Arkansas I asked River Valley coach Tyler McClain about his opponent
and what the team thought when they drew this group.
I think there was a lot of kids in our team that are a little concerned that we
were playing a team from Arkansas a little bit which I thought was pretty
funny but no I think there's a little bit of trying to figure out who they were
for sure you know putting them on tape and seeing them on film and all that
stuff.
Yeah it was definitely a jump for sure than what we're used to playing around
here but I think it's a wonderful opportunity.
Elsewhere Lancaster is at Amherst this evening in division five.
Division four, Darlington, host Melrose Mendoro.
Phenomore is at Mineral Point for a rematch and in division seven the
Ithaca Bulldogs hit the road to take on Wozika Stubenseneca.
The game is in Wozika.
I asked Coach Kyle Kelley of Ithaca about the last time they played a close
game until late.
It was within a touchdown until the fourth quarter and then a lot of things
went wrong for Ithaca Bulldogs in a lot of ways and a short amount of time.
I'm sure they've improved since then but how do you think the Bulldogs have
improved since that first game?
We've got a new running back, it was pretty solid.
If we're going to get by them, we're going to have to have the best game we've
played on offense all year as far as penalties and turnovers and on defense
we're going to have to know our assignment and in the open field make
a tackle.

The original center Ithaca Cross Country teams will run in Wisconsin
Rapids at Wisconsin Rapids Assumption tonight.
Last night following practice I caught up with a few of the runners.
Ryan Stadler is a senior on the team.
Ryan, you had your last regular season practice, how did it go tonight?
I was good, something easy and we're ready to go to the meet tomorrow.
Has it been an enjoyable year for you?
Yeah, it's been very enjoyable.
Team atmosphere has been great this year and our team's growing so I'm always
happy to see that.
You feed off everybody's enthusiasm because it seems like you make
each other better, don't you?
Yeah, absolutely.
It really helps to have enthusiastic teammates who are ready to put
them work and also to have fun.
It always just makes the season better.
What was the like winning conference last week?
It was pretty awesome because we've lost a dodge point for a number of years
and so we finally got in this year and that felt pretty good.
What do you know about the course?
What coach told you about Wisconsin Rapids Assumption and what you look
forward to Friday?
He said the course isn't going to be too challenging like a River Valley
Spring Green meet and he's told us about a few of our top competitors,
the dodge point being one of them, the same as conference.
So we're looking out for a few other teams.
You know that you've got to put in probably the best effort of the year, don't you?
Yeah, absolutely.
It's the biggest prize on the line going to state and I want to see our team make it.
You got to have that extra kick.
In the middle of the run, do you realize that this is something special?
We got to go on or hey, I need to wake up and kick it in here at the end.
Yes, that is halfway through the race to realizing maybe I need to do something.
You know, this is a big deal.
And you know, my teammates were relying on them and they were relying on us.
And so you got to realize that you're a big part of the team.
Being a senior, it's a different role for you this year.
Have you enjoyed that challenge?
Yeah, yeah.
I mean, I'm sad to not have another season.
But other than that, I've enjoyed teaching some of the younger guys
and some of, you know, the younger teammates and members kind of about racing
and what to do and what not to do.
So it's been fun.

So here you go. You're ready for Sectional coming up Friday night?
Yeah, I'm getting ready for Sectional's, yeah.
You had a practice this week.
What have you kind of been really looking at as far as you personally Clayton?
Just making it back to state. That's my biggest goal.
And then hopefully we get the team in the state is another goal.
Have you had a good season? Is it bound up to your expectations?
Because I know you've kind of set the bar high during your high school years.
Yeah, it's leading us to my expectations.
I wish I was a little bit faster than I usually am, but I can't complain.
It's been a pretty good season.
I think last year you were kind of battling an injury, weren't you?
Yeah, it was. Mostly in my ankles.
Now it's my knee that's been bothering me, which I've been going through that pretty season.
Through the season so far, which it hasn't been too big of a problem.
It's been fun watching the times come in and how exceptional this year has been.
And I know your freshman Owen Dreyer, obviously you guys have kept pace with him,
but talk about how everybody kind of makes everybody better on the team, don't they?
Yeah, everyone makes everyone better. Everyone just pulls each other.
Everyone tries to work and tries better themselves constantly.
Be from the start, going into the season, our goal was going to stay at the team.
And I think that's always been every race, everyone's been trying to better
and see how far we can get.
You know, you're a part of a little bit of history here as a senior that has to make you pretty proud, doesn't it?
It makes me very proud that you can do something for Ithaca and Richland Center
and do it again, hopefully next year, watching, coming back and watching.
Right.
What are your plans for next year, Clayton?
I'm going the UW-Ashkush for athletic training and hopefully I get the run up there too.
Awesome.
So what is the secret here coming up on Friday night?
What's going to put Richland Center Ithaca over the top if you're going to go to state?
I think we just have to stay determined.
I feel like if we just put it into our mind of that we can do this, we can.
And then if someone ever feel around our best race, I feel like we can make it.
Good. We'll go get it done, okay?

On Friday night, Rachel, what are you looking forward to on Friday night the most?
I'm really excited to have our last race of the season and finishing out strong with the team.
What has been your favorite or your best race personally this year?
Riverdale is always a good meat.
I ran my fastest time this season there and that was a really fun race.
You guys have had maybe a few injuries to deal with but you had to kind of overcome those haven't you?
Yeah, we've had a lot of injuries and our Grace Fred's got injured this summer so that's been hard.
So we've been battling through a lot but we still had a good season and we've made lots of progress.
And what about you Pearl in terms of your favorite race? What would that be this year?
I know that you have some running in your background and your grandpa and your mom and all that stuff do they encourage you?
Yeah, definitely. My family is like my biggest supporters.
And looking at what you have to do if you're going to maybe get to the next level, as Coach said, giving you some tips where you have to Wisconsin Rapids.
Oh yeah, definitely. He's giving me a lot of advice.
And what would that be?
Run fast. Run with the people you need to know and find your group of the girls you need to run with.
Like the girls you need to run with to be able to make it through.
So you guys have some shots looking at the times here. Is there a time that you have in mind that you need to get to?
Ideally like 2015 or under 20 so somewhere in there.
What is your personal best this year by the way?
2029.
Okay, so you're going to be close aren't you?
Yes, very close.
Awesome. And what do you like the most about running?
I really like that I can do it with my family and friends.
So it's very fun when you can do it with people.
How do you do it your own?
Yeah, definitely.
And we've seen you in the swimming pool. How much does swimming help this sport?
Oh, I think it helps a lot. And especially when I was younger, I'm supposed to get back to swimming this winter more.
I've like went on an office swimming, but my goal this winter is to swim more.
So I think it helps a lot.

So you're going to try to cut down the time a little bit on Friday night?
Yes, that's the goal.

We're definitely, yeah, it's fun to be a practice together and push each other and make each other laugh.
Yeah.
