It's time for sports. I'm Phil Neas. We look at sports in Southwest Wisconsin. First
of all, it's a homecoming week for several schools in the area, Richland Center among
them. The Hornets will host Dodge Point in soccer this afternoon, starting at five o'clock,
and River Valley will host the Prairie Ducine co-op. That comes up this afternoon as well.
In volleyball, there's a quad hosted by the DeSoto Pirates, Seneca, Weston, and Ithaca
will be there. And Kikapoo is hosting LaFarge and North Crawford as well as Wasika
Stupin. In volleyball tonight in the Southwest Prairie Ducine plays at River Valley and Dodge
ville is at Richland Center. It's the Hornets homecoming week. They'll be facing Dodgeville
for a second time in the league after losing to them in five sets earlier. Here is Hornets
Coach Jamie Johnson. I'm excited. I think we've improved. We've improved that by going
in five with Plattville and beating Valley. And then, again, taking second at Bearwood
turn. It was a very, very good tournament. We beat a lot of good teams there in Toma.
And then, you know, had some great matches during the day. So I think we've been playing
consistently a little bit better.
And Jamie says they're not out of conference title conversation. Yes. It's always a bummer
when you need rely help. And one of the teams you might thought might be able to realistically
pull it off is Valley. You know, because Valley beat them in a tournament. And, you know,
but Valley has already played them twice now. So, you know, we are in second place. I'll
buy yourself right now. So that's our goal is taking it one game at a time and things
fall our way. Great. But if not, if we can win out a second place in this conference
is nothing to hang your head, you know, about. And so hopefully we can, you know, we've
got a couple of big weeks here. Obviously, coming up homecoming this week, Plattville
match next week. And we have our last tournament this weekend, which is tough during a homecoming
week to have a tournament all day tournament. But especially with the competition, that's
going to be there. It's just going to be outstanding. Again, bigger schools and great
programs. So it's going to get us battle tested for our ultimate goal. There is working
through towards the conference championship, but also, you know, trying to achieve and
to get to a regional final or beyond. So all this competition, we'll just, we hope we'll
pay dividends here over the next month. The Hornets lost a dodger last time. It will
be poster night coming up at Richland Center high school tonight. And the Hornets tried
to turn the tables this time on the Dodgers. They played extremely well. I thought
against us. And again, they forced us into a lot of errors. Their middle and right side
attacks really put pressure on us that other people haven't done. Caitlin Asher, I think
it is just played outstanding for them. She just really had a high high percentage of
kills. She had like a 350 hitting percentage, which is really good in high school volleyball.
So, you know, we have a Justin figure her out there. And, you know, it's, you know, we
beat Lancaster, but Lancaster beat Dodgeville and Dodgeville beat us. So, I mean, I think
we're right there. I mean, it's, we do just kind of, we're very similar. I think there
are new coaching staff did an outstanding job and they were ready to go. Their crowd
was behind them. So hopefully our crowd can get behind us and that is coach Jamie Johnson
has the Hornets play in front of a homecoming crowd tonight. Well, I've covered to the
match on WRC. Oh, tonight major bowling league last night, week four of the season. So

Milwaukee has made it to the postseason seven times in the last eight years.
It will take on the winner of the three game series between the Cubs and the Padres series
that gets underway today. San Diego plays in Chicago eight minutes after two first pitch time

Detroit is at Cleveland just after noon today and Boston at the Yankees a little after five o'clock
this afternoon. Packers head coach Matt LaFlora is being criticized for conservative play calling.
Twice he decided upon to on fourth down Sunday night while inside the Cowboys territory
and with five yards or less to go for a first down. Green Bay took possession of the ball with
just over three and a half minutes left and over time but ran only eight plays and settled for a
game tying field goal. NBC sports confirms that the coach was trying to keep Dallas from getting
the ball back but suggested that he may have passed on what would have been a game winning touchdown.
In football news from last night, the Denver Broncos routed the Cincinnati Bengals
23 to snap a two game skid and send Cincinnati to its second straight blowout loss since losing
star quarterback Joe Burrow. Darren Waller had a pair of touchdowns in his first NFL game and the
Dolphins picked up their first win of the season 27-21 over the Jets. Also in the game, the Dolphins
lost our receiver Tyree Kill to what appeared to be a serious knee injury in the third quarter.
The Bucks began training camp today and it will be without Yana Santana-Couple who is still
in Greece and he has been diagnosed with COVID until he gets a negative result. He will remain
there and feels bad that he is not in Milwaukee. You know, as a leader, I often get about this,
but none of the day like this is life, you know, things like this. You don't know when it's going
to happen. I mean, it's going to it's going to happen. How are you going to feel? So right now,
again, I am definitely bummed that I'm not able to be there from day one and how much I want
to compete in for us to have a great year. That's a look at sports today. I am Phil Nee, courtesy of
