I'm Phil Ney with a look at sports in Southwest Wisconsin.

The Richland Center girls volleyball team won three sets to two over River Valley last

night.

The match was a typical battle between the two schools with large momentum swings all

the way through the two hour battle for the Hornets.

It was the team's third conference match in a row that went five sets.

And this was the first one they were able to come out on top.

Both teams are now two and two in the Southwest Wisconsin conference.

And setter won the opener 25-19 before River Valley enjoyed a 25-15 win.

The Hornets survived the third set with a 25-23 victory.

Seap 73rd, Nakia Stitzer 85th, and Hannah Dilly was 90th at the Greg Bel Memorial

Night Meat for Cross Country Runners.

High school football this week, Richell Center is home against Plattville, it's a conference

matchup for coach Andrew Troxel and the team.

They've had a couple of shootouts, you know, the Prairie shootout and that was down to

the wire, right?

And they were just lost that one going for two, you know, putting up 40 points, you know,

the Lancaster game, I mean, you're talking a lot of points in that game, back and forth

matchups.

So, you know, you could look at that one of two ways, right?

You can look at that as they're explosive offensively or the defense just isn't showing

up, you know, in either of those contests.

So, that's one thing that we're going to throw some stuff at them that they have not

seen in the first four weeks of the season, hopefully to kind of slow down that momentum

and then offensively, you know, if you're going to allow that many points scored, we're

going to take advantage of it where we can.

So, I think our offensive plan is solid, you know, and a couple that with a defensive strategy,

you know, it should hopefully take them out of their element of just being kind of a

run and gun and kind of going forward here.

Well, the game on WRC already out tonight, Plattville and Lancaster, elsewhere in the conference,

River Valley and Lancaster, here's the Black Hawks coach Tyler McLean.

Pretty keen kind of told us we're not going to allow you to run the ball, so we're able

to fill the ball a little bit more.

That's still something we want to continue and improve.

A lot of that does fall on the shoulders of our quarterback, Lucas Klein, who's been improving

every week with that.

And then even again, I got to mention the guys up front as well, you know, if that is

trying to create lanes for the run game, then black and their butts off when it comes

time to fill the ball for the pass.

Defensively, I was just the thing that we should be really focusing on the whole year is

just tackling.

I think each and every week we're improving and better about it.

Sometimes our old habits come out and hurt the best of us, but at times, you know, we're

still seeing a lot of improvement in that area and we're going to need to improve that

each and every week.

Dodgesville will be a pretty machine and brought head Judah at New Glarest tonight.

From the scenic Bluffs Conference, Hillsborough at Royal, Brookwood at New Lisbon, Bangor

at Nassita, and Cashton at Ithaca, here's Bulldogs, go ahead, Coach David Cling.

Like last year, they were kind of a rebuilding kind of sense, but this year, most of their

guys are back in their position of players are pretty solid and they're kind of throwing

some new wrinkles on defense.

They historically have been kind of a three-three stack and now they're throwing some four looks

into it.

So we've got to be prayer for two different types of differences because we don't know

which one they're going to run against us so that kind of just makes it a little bit

more unknown, but just more preparation and more understanding for our guys to get things

down before Friday.

Elsewhere, Potosi Castles at Boscueville, Pegatonic, Argyllet, Wozika, Seneca, Southwestern

and Cuba City, Benton Scales, Mount Shoalsburg at Darlington and Mineral Point at Bellville,

River Ridge is at Riverdale, here's Riverdale head coach Jeff Johnson.

Yeah, they are.

They're one in three this year, but you got to understand they lost to Santa more by

less than a score.

They lost to Potosi last week by less than a touchdown and they lost to, I believe, Black

Hawk.

You know, all right, teams, so unfortunately, they're probably ready to get after somebody

and we're probably a target.

Let's look at tonight's football action.

Here's Phil Ne.

For the fifth weekend of the season, there are some big games, including our Game of the

Week on WRCO, Richland Center hosts Plattville in a Southwest Conference football game.

Here's Hornets Coach Andy Truckson.

They've been that way all the way through.

It's a good program.

You've got a lot of kids.

I think in SWC schools, they're the ones that have the most growth with their overall

enrollment.

You know what that helps when you've got a lot of kids to pick from.

They're going to be solid all the way across, and I know with history, it's not really

on our side, playing Plattville, I think it's been 23 years since we've got a victory against

those guys, but if anybody can buck that trend, it's this group of kids.

Elsewhere down the road at Lancaster, the arrows play host to the River Valley Black

Rocks.

Here's Black Rocks Coach Tyler McLean.

Yeah, I mean, Lancaster has always been, I've played in this conference and played against

the competition that they have been, and then obviously now as a coach as well.

They've had some pretty ice-gring games as well, and it's had some fight until the end

sort of defeats as well, so I believe it's going to be a very hungry team, and a team

that can be very well coached.

So again, I still think this is from here on out.

We're going to play really good competition, no matter who we square up against each

and every week.

Dodgerl plays at Prairie Dushin, brought head Judah at New Glarris.

Also in the scenic Bluffs Conference, Hillsborough is at Royal, Brookwood at New Lisbon,

Nassita Host Bangor, Cashton is at Ithaca.

Go ahead coach David Klang of the Bulldogs talks about Cashton.

Like last year, they were kind of a rebuilding kind of sense, but this year, most of their

guys are back in their position of players are pretty solid, and they're kind of

throwing some new wrinkles on defense.

They historically have been kind of a three-three stack, and now they're throwing some four looks

into it, so we got to be prayer for two different types of differences, because we don't know

which one they're going to run against us, so that kind of just makes it a little bit

more unknown, but just more preparation and more understanding for a guy is to get things

down before Friday.

In the SWAL, Mineral Point at Bellville, Benton's Galesmount Scholesberg at Darlington,

Southwestern travels to Cuba City, Pagatonica, Arguaila, Wozika, Seneca, Potosi, Casfield,

They're one in three this year, but you gotta understand, they lost to Santa more by less

than a score.

They lost to Potosi last week by less than a touchdown, and they lost to, I believe, Black

Hawk.

All right, teams, so unfortunately, they're probably ready to get after somebody, and

we're probably a target.

Visit Sock Prairie, and Analaska at Barrow Boo, and an eight player football North Crawford

by a score of five to two, a three-run seventh inning broke a tie game wide open, left the

Aaron Ashby picked up the win in relief, Chad Durbin knocked in two runs, and Christian

Yelich played at his 100th RBI of the season.

The team's magic number is now down to four, as it travels to St. Louis for a three-game

series.

The Badgers will try to maintain their dominance of Maryland as they open the conference schedule

tomorrow.

Wisconsin has taken on the terrapins four times since the program joined the Big Ten and

has won all four.

The showdown is being called, a must win contest, because the brutal part of the schedule

is about to begin.

Maryland comes in with an undefeated three-and-oh record.
