I'm Phil Ney with sports. First of all, last night in eight player football,
Kickaboo LaFarge was a winner at Monticello 56 to 32. High School volleyball
Richland Center was a winner by sweep over Prairie to Sheen on the opening night of Southwest
Conference play. The scores were 25 15 25 6 and 25 20 during family night for the Hornets at
the Richland Center high school field house. Senior Danica Paul's led the way with four kills in
the opening set at a match high 11 freshman Adeline words had seven kills and sophomore
Ella Clements had three kills in the opening set as Richland Center was able to set the tone.
Junior L.A.V. Weiss had four kills in the second set to lead Richland Center.
The Hornet JV one and JV two teams also scored wins over the visiting Black Hawks.
Following the three sets sweep Richland Center will prepare to host its own
invitation on Saturday. It will get underway at 8 30 and feature a stacked lineup of talented
teams including Black Hawk, Cuba City, Edgewood, Phenomore, Hillsboro, Iowa Grant,
Ithaca, Lancaster, Luther, Readsburg and Royal. In other conference matches on Thursday night,
Plattville was a three sets to one winner over River Valley and Lancaster swept Dodgeville.
Elsewhere it was a win for Ithaca over Kickaboo by sweep. The Bulldogs bounced back after
a loss to Riverdale on Tuesday night winning by sweep in three. Also it was a win in the
Richland Valley conference for Seneca against North Crawford. Weston defeated LaFarge 3-2.
Shelby Newman led with 20 digs and seven kills. Valerie Bauer had 16 assists.
The Eagles take on Ithaca and North Crawford coming up next week on the schedule.
Highland was a winner by sweep over Belmont 3-0. Phenomore was a winner as well in three
and Riverdale swept Iowa Grant a two-win week in duels for the Riverdale Chieftains.
It was a win for Royal over Hillsboro 3-1 in the scenic loves.
Watertown Luther prep defeated Binole 0.3 sets to none.
Baroque was 3-1 over Arcadia. The Richland center boy soccer team was victorious,
3-1 over Prairie Dushin. Seth Gold made his debut as the varsity goalkeeper and had a great night.
Also in the second game of the season the Hornet scored first again.
Another freshman Andrew Mata struck first with the assist going to Yovani Serna.
Next the Hornets were awarded a penalty kick in what proved to be a very physical battle.
A battle the Hornets won because of the foul. Yovani Serna was awarded a penalty kick
which he buried in the net. Yovani scored in every game so far this year two for two.
Prairie's only goal came from a penalty kick. A diving Seth Gold nearly blocked it.
So Conor Stoltz also singled out by the coaching staff for some great play.
His shot in the upper 90 and moving fast Conor Stoltz Yovani Serna and Andrew Mata
combined for three goals on the evening. They are getting set for some big action this week and
Harrison Carpenter Cody Paul's Nash Burkhammer all played tough on defense and Seth Gold in the net
with several big saves. The Hornets go to their annual Bigfoot excursion coming up on Saturday.
The wall worth Bigfoot tournament. The Hornets want to know on the conference and remain
undefeated for the season. Evansville was a winner over Dodgeville middle point for nothing
yesterday in soccer. Toma won nothing over Aquinas and Arcadia defeated Sparta for goals to none.
It's the third week of the high school football schedule. Tonight Richland Center opens conference
play at Lancaster. I asked Coach Andy Troxle what the team has to do for a victory.
Smart decisions. That was one of the things we preached for a voice this week is that we played
Potosi last week but we beat ourselves when it came down to that game. We got to make sure
that our regs are right. Our progressions are there. We're putting the ball in the hands of the
kids that are in the right spots at the right time. You're going to see Center is going to run the
ball quite a bit. I think that we're going to have an advantage in the box. I think our offensive
line is pretty solid. And so as long as we can establish a run game and we can just focus on
moving the chains and controlling the clock. I think that's going to be critical. Just putting
ourselves in a position to have success. River Valley plays at Broadhead Judah to open conference
play. The first couple of games River Valley's defense has stood out. Here's Coach Tyler McLean.
Yeah, Coach Vellington again. I have a very good staff around me here to help support
as we kind of keep moving on here. Coach Vellington has done a really nice job with that group.
He's still looking to improve every single week. But again, a guy I got a shout out is Quincy
Blakely. And then he's already had three interceptions for us this season. He's been kind of a turnover
machine, which is great for us as an offensive group. And then obviously defensively, we had some
very key stops in moments in the game where Del has tried to kind of inch back. But we were all
the sort of respond. I'm getting some good stops for us. Daniel plays at New Glarris and
Platteville and Prairie Dushine as well in the Southwest Conference. In the six rivers,
Black Hawk Warren at River Ridge was he casenica at Iowa Grant, Boschabell host Peccatonica Argyle
and Riverdale at Potosi Castville. Riverdale faced off against top scenic loves teams,
Ithaca and Hillsborough in the first two weeks. Here's Coach Jeff Johnson at Riverdale.
Both are teams that we can contend with. And if we can contend with some of the top teams of
the league, then I feel pretty good about the direction we're going. You played Potosi Castville,
traditionally a good team. I know they have quite a lot of graduation in there.
Yeah, we they look really sharp on film though. We watched their game from last week and I watched
the game from last year and they do a tremendous job of running what they do. They don't there's no
fancy stuff. There's no gimmicks. There's no special plays. They run their stuff and good luck
trying to stop them. That I think that's what their attitude is. Riverdale playing tonight on
the road at Potosi Castville in the SWA L Bellville at Cuba City, middle point at Darlington,
Southwestern East to Buchat, Phenomore. In the scenic loves royal at New Lisbon,
Nassita at Cashton, Bangor at Brookwood and Hillsborough is playing at Ithaca.
Go ahead, coach David Clang talked to us about Ithaca as they get ready to face Hillsborough this week.
Hillsborough is a really good team. They have a lot of their backed back and kind of looking at it
like they run to the triple option which is hard enough to begin with. But along with that,
they have great backs. They have a great quarterback running quarterback, great running backs that they
can all handle the ball really well and they're also very deceptive with it with the triple option.
If one person doesn't do their job in their role at that time, they could lead to a huge play.
And so that's going to be critical is each one of our guys has to do their role in their job
every single time for us to be successful. That's our feature game of the week tonight,
Hillsborough at Ithaca. The Tigers are coached by Eric Hall now in his 27th year of coaching Hillsborough.
We've got a number of seniors and I would say that obviously Miles Ravenscroft, our quarterback
is certainly among the leaders. But I wouldn't say he's the only one. I would say that Dan Green,
one of our offensive linemen is probably one of the spark plugs of the team in terms of just his
general motor. And Ryan McCoy is a great kid. He was a leader by example, but probably isn't going
to say a whole lot. And Caden Clark is a junior and he's also become kind of one of our big leaders
on the team as well. Pregame time 635 tonight for Hillsborough at Ithaca,
other games, Toma at Barrow Boo, Westby at Black River Falls for Oakwood West Salem,
lacrosse central plays at Readsburg, Salk Prairie at Watertown, Austin at Wood,
Toma and Adams friendship at Wisconsin Delts, eight player football. It was kickable
farge getting the win against Monticello 5632 last night. The Predators claim victory tonight Highland
will be at Belmont, DeSoto at Waniwak, Weston. The game will be played at Waniwak Center High School
and Wisconsin Heights at North Crawford. It has been a great start to the season for the
Richland Center Ithaca cross country team. For the second meeting in a row, the Richland Center Ithaca
boys won yesterday against some tough teams at the Verokwa invitational held of the Vernon County
Fairgrounds and on drier and only his second varsity meet the freshman set the Richland Center
School record for the cross country course. His time yesterday, 1644 leading the way also
in the top 10 Clayton Lee was fourth. Ryan Stadler was fifth. In fact, that school record was
set by Ryan Stadler, broken last night by Owen Dreyer. Robert Budden was 14th overall,
Kiernan Culver, 21st Sam Jones, 29th and Brace and Garcia Bowlin was 34th among the teams that
were running last night. The top River Valley runner was Nathan Hamilton with a time of 1848.
So a pretty fast course last night in Verokwa, overall for the girls results. The top team was Verokwa
and Alia Schwem with a first place finish yesterday, a time of 2103 for her team. Also yesterday,
for Richland Center Ithaca taking six as a team, Alan Lawless was 14th with a time of 2226,
Ava Martin with a 2251 was 19th. Also, Rachel Waterfall was 30th, Lacey Allball 40th,
and Ava Gotchell took 52nd in the meet yesterday and grads to RCI and another good finish yesterday
in the running at Verokwa. Bowling scores from the coffee clutch league, series high, the three aces,
1762, 10 pines and the Holy Rollers, 1741 and the gutter gals of 1738. The gutter gals had a
660, Allie Katz, 611, spare parts of 610. Marlene Gary had the top series of 517,
Patty Lebansky of 490, Tammy Schwingle of 463. Top game, Tammy Schwingle of 214, Marlene Gary of 185
and a 177. Pat Adams and Judy Adrien each had the 27 split pickup in action from the coffee clutch
and from all star Bowling, top series, Morris Heading and Cooling at 2913, good enough at 2793,
Pioneer Print Company at 2786. Best game honors, Morris Heading and Cooling at 1032,
Culligan Waterstore 957, TKO Barbeque at 953. Top series, trait and ship with a 673, Jake Morris
a 636, Jason Gurner a 629, trait and ship had a 278, Greg Shepp at 247, Jason Gurner a 244,
Rich McConkey, bold a 378 series, 120 over average and Brandon Adams a 568, 103 pines over average
in the All Star Bowling league. On the state scene, Richland Center native Brady Ewing will be
the honorary captain for the Badgers tomorrow when they take on middle Tennessee state.
That's Brady Ewing, Richland Center native, who played for the Badgers and also in the NFL for three seasons.
The Brewer is Freddie Peralta extended his scoreless innings streak to 293, shy of a team record,
Teddy Higgarris said in 1987, but it wasn't enough as the Brewer is fell to the Phillies
to nothing yesterday afternoon. That's a check of sports.

Phil Ney takes a look at week three of high school football action.
Eight player football tonight, Highland is at Belmont, Dysoto at Waniwak Weston at Waniwak
High School, and Wisconsin Heights at North Crawford.
There's also in the area, Wisconsin Delso, Saddam's friendship, Mauston at Wattoma,
Verokwad West Salem and West B at Black River Falls.
In action coming up tonight from the Southwest Conference, Plattville is at Prairie Dushin,
Dodgeville at New Glarris, Richland Center at Lancaster.
Here is Hornets head coach Andy Troxel.
They're a little bit different than Lancaster of years ago.
You know, they're often to mind, isn't nearly as big or as aggressive as they used to
be.
And so I think with our defensive front, you know, just our defensive core in the box itself,
I think we're going to give them some fits to be able to run that ball, especially
mid light is going to be it.
River Valley plays at Broadhead, Judah this evening.
River Valley's defense has been their crown jewel through the first couple of weeks.
Here's Coach Tyler McLean.
Yeah, Coach Vellington, again, I have a very good staff around me here to help support
as we kind of keep moving on here.
Coach Vellington has been a really nice job with that group.
He's still looking to improve every single week.
Again, a guy I got a shout out is Quincy Blakely, and then he's already had three interceptions
for us this season.
He's been kind of a turnover machine, which is great for us as an offensive group.
And then obviously defensively, we had some very key stops in moments in the game where
Dell tried to kind of inch back, but we were all the sort of respond and get some good
stops for us.
River Valley trying to continue a win streak after a victory against the Dell's last week.
In the SWAL, Bellville, at Cuba City, middle point at Darlington, Fedemore host Southwestern
East Dubuque.
In the six rivers conference, Black Hawk War on at River Ridge was he Cassena Kev is
its Iowa grant, Boschabell home against Peccatownica Argyle, and Riverdale travels to Potosi
Kessville.
I asked Riverdale head coach Jeff Johnson about some of last week's highlights.
Tom and Walsh had a tremendous special teams game on kick returns.
We'd like to not have kick return that often, but he kept us in an impregnable position.
As I can have, I thought we played much better, much more disciplined football kind of
took some of the stuff we didn't need to do and just ran our bread and butter.
Tonight in the scenic Bluffs conference, Royal at New Lisbon, Nassita at Cashton, Bangor
at Brookwood, and Hillsboro at Ithaca.
Here's Bulldogs, co-head coach David Clay.
Hillsboro is a really good team.
They have a lot of their backs back and kind of looking at it like they run the triple
option, which is hard enough to begin with.
But along with that, they have great backs, they have a great quarterback, running quarterback,
running backs that they can all handle the ball really well.
And they're also very deceptive with it, with the triple option.
If one person doesn't do their job and their role at that time, they could lead to a huge
play.
And so that's going to be critical is each one of our guys has to do their role and their
job every single time for us to be successful.
Hillsboro coach Eric Gaul is preparing his team for Ithaca.
They're kind of a balanced team.
They throw quite a bit.
Quarterback has a good arm.
They've got decent runners in the backfield.
And up front they've got nice size and looks like they have good strength.
We played them the last few years after they came over to, after we went over to their
conference and then came over to the scenic Bluffs.
So we've kind of become a little bit more familiar with them.
But I haven't had a real long history of playing them in the past.
Hillsboro trying to avenge a loss to the Bulldogs last year coming up tonight on FM 100.9
and WRC O.com.
It's our game of the week from the scenic Bluffs Hillsboro at Ithaca 635.
The Bethesda power sports pregame show will hit the air and kickoff time seven o'clock
in Ithaca.
It will feel like football out there tonight.
I am filming for WRC Sports.
The Milwaukee Brewers open a three game series against the pirates at Pittsburgh this
evening.
And the tonight's games first pitch will be at 540 and you will be able to hear the
broadcast of that game on WRC, 107.7 and AM 1450.
And the pregame I should say is currently underway.
The Green Bay Packers have signed Punter, Daniel Wheeling to a contract extension, General
Manager Brian Gutencunst announced yesterday.
Wheeling who was signed by the Packers in May of 2023 has played in 34 regular season
games and three postseason contests for Green Bay over the past two seasons.
He has registered two of the top three single season averages for punting in franchise history,
posting a 46.2 yard average in 2023 and a 46.1 yard mark in 2024.
He became the first punter in team history to average 46 plus yards per punt and 40 plus
net yards per punt in a single season.
The NFL made it clear before the season that sportsmanship would be a point of emphasis.
Jalen Clark provided the first example of misconduct.
Now he awaits discipline from the league.
A fine is expected and even a suspension is a possibility though Carter's contrition
after the game helps his case with tens of millions watching the reigning Super Bowl champion
Philadelphia Eagles faced the rival Dells Cowboys, Carter spat on deck, press got six seconds
into the league's opener on Thursday night.
The 24-year-old defensive tackle was ejected from the game, forcing the Eagles to play without
their best defensive player.
And there was NFL action going on tonight.
This Kansas City taking on Los Angeles Charters at São Paulo, Brazil, and kick off for
that contest will be at 7 this evening.
