It is time to take a look at sports. High school football got underway last week and games are getting into week number two coming up this weekend.
Games in the area include Riverdale and Hillsboro at Riverdale. Also, it will be Ithaca taking on wazika Seneca at Seneca.
Richland Center is on the road to Potosi to take on Potosi Casville and River Valley has its home opener against Wisconsin Dells.
I spoke recently with Travis Wilson of Bound Wisconsin about the new playoff format established by the WIA for this year's football season.
A significant change in the high school football playoffs this year.
First of all, it started eight player football where there is an expansion of qualifying teams from 16 to 32 qualifiers in eight player football.
So that's exciting. Is that sport continues to grow? In 11 player football, there is a different playoff qualifying system.
Now the number of teams that make the playoffs stays the same. You still have to qualify. You still have to get in and not everybody gets in.
But the qualification system is different. After some some errors by the WIA last year in qualifying that left a couple teams out that should have been in.
There was some availability to make some changes. And so there's a new qualifying system that gives points to teams based on their wins.
And also based on the size of the team that they get wins over. There's more points available for a division one team than there is a division 17 for instance.
And then also it looks at your strengths of schedule taken into account the number of points accumulated by the teams that you beat and puts it all together to spit out a number that is determining your qualification.
And one other change with the playoffs is everybody knows their division before the playoffs start. So you qualify within your division no longer are you some teams kind of wondering what division they'll be in all the way up until that.
That last week of the regular season. So you know what division you're in you know what teams you have to essentially compete against right to qualify to get into the playoffs.
How they group teams is different and then also the seeding process is different we use that that point system to determine the seed in each group.
So a lot of changes that certainly will generate a lot of discussions throughout the year.
Bring some transparency to the process and hopefully bring some some discussion along the way because Wisconsin football coaches association and I'll be posting this information on bound Wisconsin as well.
Now we'll release not sure exactly which week might be week three or four even kind of in on a weekly look at the points for each team and where they stand within their division.
And you'll be able to see kind of the admin flow that the team gets a big win and you know beat the team that gets them a good number of points you'll see that change from week to week.
And that'll be that'll be fun to follow as we start moving into the later part of the season.
Travis Wilson from bound Wisconsin talking about the upcoming playoff football scenarios beginning later this year.
Also some teams from high school volleyball were able to scrimmage yesterday Richland center hosted a scrimmage Riverdale among the teams that were there.
Riverdale will begin its volleyball official schedule coming up at Wisconsin Dells just a game fieldhouse this coming weekend.
Richland center will be at the Omni and Alaska coming up starting tomorrow evening.
So things are off and running speaking of which the Riverdale cross country team has a scrimmage today at Black Hawk Lake.
The Brewers survived a five run rally by Arizona to win Monday's home series openers seven five Milwaukee built a six run lead before the rally.
Andrew Montessario and Caleb Durbin knocked the ball out of the park.
Starter Brandon would have earned his fifth win and Abner Yaree Bay picked up the save.
The Brewers lead second place Chicago by five and a half games in the game.
Brandon Roof says he was not at his best but it was still a win.
I think way too many positives outweigh the kind of outcome of the outing.
The main thing is we won the game which is huge for us.
But yeah the sixth inning you know that's just one of those endings.
You kind of chalk up to kind of being a baseball inning and I haven't had one of those up until this point.
And Caleb Durbin was asked about Andrew Montessario.
Yeah he's kind of thrown into a big spot with us obviously shortstop trying to you know man the bomb the order there.
It's it's a big spot and he's done obviously great and I think there's a lot of confidence there.
I don't think there's really much doubt you know I think we know what Mona can do.
He's obviously great teammate and just makes it more fun when when he does step up and have a lot of success.
The Brewers lead second place Chicago by five and a half games the Cubs did not play yesterday.
Jacob Mizorowski gets the start in today's game against the Diamondbacks.
Elsewhere in the pros Miami 2 1 over Atlanta the Mets 13 Philadelphia 3 St. Louis 7 6 over Pittsburgh.
The Dodgers 7 and Cincinnati nothing in the American League Boston 4 Baltimore 3 Tampa Bay 9 nothing over Cleveland Toronto 10 Minnesota 4
White socks 7 nothing over Kansas City the Angels beat Texas 4 nothing and the athletics over Detroit 8 3.
Inter League play the Yankees 10 5 over Washington Seattle 9 and San Diego 6.
The Packers managed to create some much needed depth along the offensive line by making a trade with Philadelphia Monday.
Packers dot com reports that third year NFL Lyman Darian Kenard comes to Green Bay in exchange for a sixth round draft.
In the 2027 NFL draft Kenard was originally drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs.
He has been on the rosters for the last three Super Bowl champions.
Kenard will wear uniform number 70 Malik Willis the Packer back up quarterback was asked about saying goodbye to 40 players when cut down day happens later.
I mean it's hard it's very unfortunate especially how much work guys put in and you see it every day.
How much better guys get it's just the way this league works is a business first and you know at the same time guys stay around and you see them all over the place.
That's why I feel like every single team out of the 32 I have somebody I know on that team and can relate to and have passed with.
And I think those bonds last longer than just being on the team.
Starting quarter back day zero for Queen will miss the Badger season opener as his request for a preliminary injunction makes its way through the courts.
For Queen wants the judge to give him temporary eligibility while his case against the NCAA waits for ruling sports illustrated reports.
The judge is giving the NCAA until Friday to respond.
Red shirt freshman Emilio A guard and transfer senior DeYani Hill will replace for Queen against the Miami of Ohio Red Hawks on Thursday.
And the media is not giving the new look Milwaukee bucks much of a chance in the upcoming NBA season.
ESPN projects Milwaukee to fall the most in the standings a complete roster makeover means the bucks will no longer be one of the league's older slower teams.
But that doesn't seem to impress the analysts.
Yanis out to the Cumpo and newcomer Miles Turner figured to be one of the best defensive front courts in the NBA.
But there are too many questions after that.
