This begins a busy high school sports week as several teams will start to get underway.
With sports, I'm Phil Ney.
We check out some notes on the high school scores and schedules for Richland Center.
First of all, there will be JV football for the Hornets tonight.
They will be at Verokwa.
The Hornet Girls travel to a volleyball tournament at Analaska this week on Wednesday.
They'll be taking you on teams such as Arcadia, Northwestern, Pittsville, also Iowa Grant
and Analaska.
Richland Center football will be at Potosi this Friday night and will take on Potosi
Castville.
The Richland Center soccer team getting set for the Alumni Legends scrimmage at 11 o'clock
this coming Saturday morning.
Everybody is welcome, especially the alumni that would like to play in the game.
And the Richland Center, Ithaca Cross Country team with a couple of scrimmages and a meat coming
up at Cashton this Saturday morning.
On the River Valley football schedule, they'll have JV football today at home against
Evansville with a kickoff time of 530.
Also the River Valley soccer team will take on Bellville at New Glarest High School coming
up at 6 o'clock on Tuesday.
River Valley swim team will be in action against McFarland on Thursday.
River Valley volleyball team travels to UW Stout this weekend for the annual sprawl tournament.
River Valley soccer team will also be at the Central Wisconsin Christian school tournament
on Friday.
And the River Valley football team will be home against Wisconsin Dells for the home
opener coming up on Friday night.
River Valley's Cross Country team will be at a meat at West Salem to open the season
on Saturday.
For Westin, they have eight player football tonight, JV football, including Wisconsin
Heights, Waniwak Center Westin at Westin schools kickoff time at 5 o'clock.
So the Westin volleyball team will be scrimmaging Ithaca coming up on Wednesday evening.
Volleyball action at Thursday will be against Cooley Christian as well for Westin.
And Waniwak Westin football will take on Valley Christian at Valley Christian High School coming
up on Friday night.
Other games from the area, the Ithaca Bulldogs will be in action against Riverdale today
and JV football.
They'll also prepare for varsity football action at Seneca High School coming up this Friday
night against Wasika, Seneca and the Ithaca volleyball team will be taking on their opponents
at Highland in a jamboree coming up this Saturday.
As we mentioned, the Riverdale JV football team slated to host Ithaca today.
The Riverdale Cross Country teams will be involved in the scrimmaging Black Hawk, Black
Hawk Lake coming up on Tuesday.
And the Riverdale football team will be hosting Hillsboro coming up on Friday night during
the second week of the high school football season home talent baseball from yesterday.
It was the first weekend of the round robin series with Middleton getting the win against
Ford Atkinson five three and Verona was a winner over Manona six to four.
The best record after three weeks will win the home talent baseball championship outright
coming up this Sunday.
Ford Atkinson will be at Verona and Manona will play at Middleton.
The Brewer is honored.
The late great Bob Euker before the game yesterday started the game a little bit late as well
as fans were in the stands at least an hour before the game to watch and listen as several
were paying tribute to Mr. Euker, including the master of ceremonies Bob Costas.
He had this larger than life personality and he had tremendous ability outside calling
the ballgame.
And most of the country outside Wisconsin knows him from Johnny Carson and the major league
films.
But if he never said one thing that was funny and you just judged him as a baseball announcer
especially on the radio Hall of Fame caliber baseball announcer.
Willie Adamus was in town as a member of San Francisco's squad.
He talked about Euker.
I don't even know like there's a right word to describe him other than just like happiness.
He was the energy of the clubhouse.
He was the, I don't know, this period like everything.
The Brewer's dropped a second straight home series when San Francisco scored two runs
in the ninth yesterday.
The four three defeat gave Milwaukee five losses in its last eight games and melted its
central division lead over the Cubs to five.
Caleb Durban's home run had put the home team on top in the fifth.
And in Lock Ridge and Christian Yellich knocked in the Brewer's other runs.
Trevor Miguel took the loss after blowing his save for the third time in his last four
chances.
Milwaukee still has the best record in Major League Baseball and will take it into a
four game series against the Diamondbacks starting today.
Brandon Woodruff will get the start.
Manager Pat Murphy says the team is not trending in the right direction.
What I mostly have to help them realize is this is a tough game and if you're going to
play like we've played to win, you've got to somehow dig down and play that way with
that mentality every day.
And it's really, really hard because it's just such a, there's so many games and such
a grind.
The Cubs defeated the Angels for three yesterday, Tampa Bay over St. Louis, 72 and Miami
five three over Toronto in the National League Pittsburgh for Colorado.
Nothing.
Philadelphia three two over Washington, Atlanta beat the Mets for three Cincinnati six
Arizona one, the Dodgers eight two over San Diego in the American League Baltimore three
Houston two, Kansas City 10 eight over Detroit, the White Sox eight Minnesota nothing Texas
five nothing over Cleveland, Seattle 11, the athletics four, the Yankees seven two over
Boston as well.
While the Packer defense was dominant in the team's final preseason game, defenders forced
three fumbles and sack the Seattle quarterback five times in a 20 to seven victory.
The Seahawks were playing without their starters while Green Bay used regulars for most of
the first period.
Back up quarterback Malik Willis, Captain 96 yard drive on 14 plays by hitting Romeo
Dobbs in the end zone for a first period score.
Tyler Elgscoma is connected on a total of passes with a chance for Will Shepherd on a
short scoring pass in the second to get the Packers in the end zone.
The Packers open the 25 season at home September seventh against the Detroit Lions.
The Badgers are 17 and a half point favorites to win their 2025 season opener coming up
at home on Thursday in Madison when they take on Miami of Ohio Wisconsin has stumbled in
previous games against Mac opponents, but with a brutal schedule waiting a victory is critical.
Red Hawks will be led by transfer quarterback Dequan Finn, Badgers quarterback Billy Edwards
Jr.
Also came through the portal and will be protected by what appears to be an improved offensive
line coaches say the UW defense will be in attack mode at Camp Randall Stadium.
Game time Thursday night is set for eight o'clock.
It appears the box never talked with another NBA team about a potential trade for superstar
Yanis Ata de Cumpo, ESPN interviewed Houston Rockets general manager Rafael Stone who says
he never had any serious talks with Milwaukee's front office.
General manager John Horace is said to have politely rebuffed stones inquiry and the Rockets
were one of the favorites in multiple speculative stories about such a trade.
If nothing happens with a trade, Yanis could opt out in the summer of 2028.
And Tommy Fleetwood ended a summer of heartache with a richest prize on the PGA tour.
He won the tour championship for his first tour title to capture the FedEx Cup and it's
$10 million reward.
