For Richland Center's first touchdown to the 25th campaign.

Time to turn our attention to the opening weekend

of high school football in Wisconsin.

Our featured game last night was Richland Center

and Varroqua and Phil Lee was on hand.

The Richland Center football team

started the 2025 campaign with a 47 to 8 win

over visiting Varroqua.

The game was close in the first half.

The Hornets were up 14, nothing before Varroqua scored

a safety and then scored a touchdown

to make it 14-8.

Richland Center then scored 33 unanswered points

on the way to the non-conference victory.

Senior running back Brady,

DOS scored three rushing touchdowns

and caught a two-point conversion on the night.

The Hornets showed great team speed.

DOS scored the opening touchdown on a 54 yard sprint.

Junior quarterback Jaden Shep

added a 22 yard run to the end zone.

Liam Fingerson had two extra point kicks

and the Hornets were up 14, nothing.

That is when Varroqua was able to score a safety

when there was a holding penalty called

on the Hornets in the end zone.

So Varroqua scored the two points

and on the ensuing kick,

they were able to use the short field to mount a drive

that culminated when quarterback Alex Klum

threw a touchdown to Hayden Berkhardt

with 304 remaining in the second.

So it was 14 to 8, but Richland Center bounced back.

Jaden Shep through a 25 yard strike to Duncan Harper

and then with just 30 seconds remaining in the second quarter,

Shep threw a 23 yard strike to Brenton Baker

and Brady DOS caught the two-point conversion throw

to make it 28-8 at the break.

DOS had a nine yard run and a 47 yard sprint for Paydirt

in the third quarter and the final Hornet touchdown came

from freshman Bronson Perkins on a 16 yard run

that got the continuous clock running

with 726 remaining.

Perkins intercepted a pass on the game's final play

to put a ball on the wind for Richland Center.

Senior Liam Fingerson kicked four extra points

and the Hornet defense made it tough

for the Black Hawk offense all night long.

Following the 47-8 win, Richland Center will travel

to Potosi High School to take on Potosi Castville

during the second week of the high school football season

and Varroqua will host Brookwood.

I am Phil Ne for WRCO Sports.
