High School Softball: Ithaca vs Belmont

WRCO Sports · Thu Jun 12, 2025

Going on, even as early as yesterday, the softball state quarterfinals were held in Division

1 yesterday.

It was Kokona, getting a 9-1 win over Sun Prairie East to move on Hamilton with score

8-3-0 win over Oregon.

In Game 3, it was Kenosha Bradford over Cedarburg 10-0, and in Game 4, DC Everest would get

a narrow 1-0 win over Watertown.

Today in Division 5, WRCOs Philany and Hank Bray will be over there covering the Belmont

Ithaca Game with more.

Here's Philany.

The Ithaca softball team takes on Belmont today at Goodman Diamond and Madison in the

state semifinal for Division 5.

Brad Lewis talked about getting the team ready to play.

Yeah, we just got to make sure they're prepared, ready to go, have all, you know, they're

going to have nerves.

We're all going to have nerves.

That's part of a big game like this.

Just our pitching company, our ladies, to continue to hit like they have them.

They've been hitting now outstanding.

We started a little slower against Columbus Catholic, slower than I would like, but I believe

they're ready.

You're going to be taking some extra BP this week and everything?

Yes, we have.

We've been doing a lot of live pitching and stuff.

We've had a couple different pitchers come in and pitch the girls to kind of give them

a different look at things and that's been great.

Correct.

That's what we've been pushing all week that it's just another game.

Even though we know it's not, but they have to play it that way.

I mean, if they get too hyped up, the adrenaline's going to be run on.

That's what we told them to and, you know, be just careful with it.

If it gets softball coach, Brad Lewis is team taking on Belmont.

We'll have it for you coming up this morning from WRCO and WRCO.com.

I am Phil me.

Thanks Phil.

As also in the division five, Omen Bancroft will take on Thorpe following that.

In division four, it will be Pacelli taking on McDonald's central Catholic and in game two,

it will be Michikot going up against Mineral Point.

The brave starting pitcher Spencer Schwellenbach went the distance in a six to win over the

Brewers on Wednesday afternoon.

The Atlanta series victory was his first in more, it was its first in more than three

weeks.

Rookie Chad Patrick absorbed the defeat.

Rice Hoskins hit his 10th home run and catcher Eric Hayes doubled in Milwaukee's second

run.

Christian Yelge was out of the lineup for a second straight time.

The Brewers hook up with the St. Louis Cardinals Thursday night.

Manager Pat Murphy hasn't named a starter.

A release of cornerback Jair Alexander leaves the Packers with $35 million of dead money

on the books about half is Alexander's and the team is still a paying for deals with

players like Preston Smith and DeVandre Campbell.

Eight NFL teams have more than 50 million still on the books as it stands now.

Green Bay won't have any dead money for 2026 depending on what happens this year.

Badger head coach Luke fickle says success this season will depend heavily on the offensive

line.

Fickle blames the failures of the last two seasons on average quarterbacking while

using a raid offense system.

The coach has Wisconsin isn't going back to the run heavy offenses of the last three

decades, but it needs an offense in line to create the balanced offense.

He and the coaching staff still want better quarterbacking may depend on consistent protection

from the line.

Multiple reports indicate guard Kevin Porter junior will opt out of his player option

for the coming season, even though it appears that superstar Yana sent in to cook and

tend to cook.

Bo could be staying in Milwaukee.

The task of assembling a winning roster will still be challenging.

Swingman Pat Conantins is expected to opt out of the coming season.

Porter found his touch after coming over from the Clippers in a one sided trade for Marjan

boat champ.

The box would like to have him back, but are limited by financial constraints.

Including a look at other sports scores from around the league in National League play.

It was Pittsburgh getting a five to win over Miami.

It was Philadelphia defeating the Chicago Cubs seven to two.

The LA Dodgers got a five to win over San Diego while it was the New York Met's holding

Washington scoreless five nothing San Francisco got a 10 seven win over Colorado.

Over in the American League, the LA Angels topped at the Athletics six five while it was

in Madison. Earlier today, Ithaca faced Belmont in a Division V semi-final game, which

was also our featured broadcast tour earlier, right here on WRC 100.9 on WRC.com and on

the Civic Media app. With more, here's Phil Ney.

Belmont Braves picked up an 11-nothing victory over the Ithaca Bulldogs in WIA State semi-final

softball in the morning. It was a total of three runs right out of the gate for Belmont,

two more in the second and six in the fourth as they put the game away on the 10-run rule

the game, Kelsey Coleman and Kayleigh Newkirk both had base hits. And for Belmont, their

lead-off Inter Addison McNat was on three times and scored all three times. They picked

up 11 hits against Bulldog pitching. For Ithaca, these seniors played their final high school

event, Kayleigh Newkirk, Ariana Lewis, Alyssa Muller and Holly King. For Belmont, they

improved to 25 and three. They'll advance to the WIA Division V State title game Saturday

morning at eight o'clock. For Ithaca, there's season end at 21 and six. The win goes to

Callie Hodson, starting pitcher for Belmont. She had some relief work in the last inning

from Jaden Raymaker. And for the Bulldogs, JC Maxwell is starting pitcher. He works

three and a third in Ariana Lewis. Worked two-thirds of an inning for the Bulldogs at Goodman

Diamond. The line's score 11 runs. 11 hits. No errors. Six left on for Belmont. No

runs. Two hits. Three errors. Two left on for the Bulldogs in state semi-final softball.

Deporting from Goodman Diamond and Madison for WRCO Sports, I am Phil Nees.

Still, also in Division V action. Almond Bancroft beat Thorpe by a score of 18 to three

by a score of three. Nothing. And they'll go on to Paselli will go on Saturday to face

Mineral, either Mineral Point or Michikot, the winner of that game. And right now it

is in the top of the fifth inning. And Michikot has a one-nothing lead on Mineral Point. And

that game will be played on Saturday at 10 30 a.m. The NCAA committee on infractions penalized

UW Madison today over impermissible calls between coaches and football recruits. Channel

to the committee's finding findings nine of the impermissible calls came from badgers head

coach Luke fickle. The calls were classified as level two violations as a result of the violations

fickle and assistant coach Matt Mitchell were barred from communicating communicating with high

school recruits from June 15th through the 21st. Brave starting pitcher Spencer swell back
