The Hornet started strong with a four-run second inning last night.
Senior Carly Meaden went three for three with a walk in RBI and three runs scored.
Chloe Darling hit a two-run single in the second, which gave the team all it needed.
Senior Maddie McGlin added a single and an RBI ground out to help Richland Center improve to 16 and 8 overall.
Freshman pitcher Kyrie Fisher continues to impress as she went the distance throwing a two-hitter,
walking two and striking out 17 Black Hawk batters.
Claire Kennedy suffered the pitching loss for Prairie Dushin after giving up seven hits,
walking three and striking out nine.
She had a hit as did Ella Lang.
The Black Hawk's other season ended 19 and 8.
Richland Center will now play at point at today at 5pm for the right to go to the WIA state tournament.
Their opponent will be point at after they won 5-1 Wednesday night over Marshall.
Following the game, I asked head coach Jamie Gander about the win.
You know, I told the girls early in the year, I just seen a lot of ability, a lot of things we could do with the team, you know.
I told them the night that was a culmination of believing in themselves right there.
I mean, to come back from, I mean, last time we were here, we got these by 10 and 5.
I've been in, you know, let away to bounce back.
Just proud of the girls, they came in here ready to play tonight.
The bus right down was different.
I think we talked about that before.
Last time we were here was really quiet.
It was a party on the bus the whole way down.
These little girls do.
You know, but at this point, I just told them, hey, we got another one to go tomorrow night.
You know, we're not stopping here now.
Hornet, senior Chloe Darling talked about the run through the playoffs.
I love the team.
That's what really, I think everybody, I don't even think it's about playing the four of this.
I think the whole team just wants to keep playing together because after the season,
we're not going to be in any other whole lot.
And yeah, now that I'm graduated, it's hard.
You have to keep a routine, otherwise you're just going to walk you,
but yeah, I think the whole team just really, really like playing together.
So that's what makes this so easy.
Freshman JC Gander talked about staying focused.
No, we say like as a team, and it's just like the four runs right away.
Like we knew we weren't done, so we had to keep fighting.
Otherwise, like we couldn't let up and we knew they'd like try and come back.
And here is senior catcher, Maddie McLean.
It feels amazing just going on to the sectional finals.
Yeah, this is the best experience.
Just going in with the new team and having all the confidence.
Assistant coach Dave Darling talked on the post game show last night about fundamentals.
Early season, we weren't able to bunch the ball as well as we have done here recently.
We weren't able to use all of the tools that we had in our toolbox.
So try to do our coaches.
They've really done a great job of getting these drills ready.
We focus on that every single night, fundamentals, productive outs, things like that,
that really I think showed tonight.
Everything we did was a product of somebody doing the right thing.
We're not necessarily a big, huge hit, but get on base, move a runner and make things happen.
The Hornets advanced to play point at tonight at point at it's a five o'clock start time.
Also mineral point will be doing battle against water.
Lou, that's at mineral point soldiers Memorial Park starting at five.
And the ethical Bulldogs advanced to take on Columbus Catholic tonight.
Last night, Camp Columbus Catholic was a winner eight, seven, a hard fought game that went
nine innings.
And so the Bulldogs travel the long trips take on their opponent at Blair Taylor High School.
I caught up this morning with Brad Lewis head coach of the Ethica Softball team.
Yeah, a chance to watch the video of your opponent once you think when you watch last night
in their victory feel we can play with them.
They have a, they're starting pictures, a little hobbled right now.
She twist her ankle.
It sounded like maybe the first playoff game and then she's been battling through it.
She throws decent.
And then she hasn't made it past the fifth inning in the last two games, which
more kind of hope and to do the kind of the same thing we did against Brooke where
this have our one, two punch again.
So with our pictures, have you had any common opponents, Brad, this year?
They just be loyal in regional finals eight to six.
But Royal was winning that game up until the bottom of the six.
They were winning six to five and they have a Columbus Catholic has a girl that's really
good hitter.
I think she's 14 home runs on the year and she ended up hitting a three run shot against
them to win in the bottom of six.
And then we faced Royal earlier in the year shortly after we got beat twice by Wazika.
So the girls rebounded nice and we beat Royal love and seven.
It wasn't I didn't feel our best game, but that that's our common opponent as we both
be loyal.
Good luck to the Ethica Bulldogs as they play tonight against Columbus Catholic.
That Blair Taylor high school for the right to go to state and represent the area in the
division five portion of the tournament.
Also in baseball last night, congratulations to the basketball Bulldogs.
They were four two winners over to Soto.
The eighth seated Bulldogs continue in the tournament awaiting their opponent.
They'll be in the sectional semi final next Tuesday at Blair Taylor high school against
either Highland or River Ridge.
Those two teams play this evening in other baseball from yesterday.
Panama was a nine eight winner over landcaster.
New Glarris four two over middle point.
Cuba City edge prairie to sheen won nothing to get to today's game against Dodgeville,
which won earlier this week.
Innovation two readsburg was a winner 11 won in six innings over portage.
Sock prairie was an eight four victor against Wisconsin delts.
Readsburg plays host to Sock prairie today.
Six two winners against McFarland and Mount Horobus seven one winner against Edgewood.
The two teams play today at Lodi in the WIA tournament.
The Richland Center track teams are represented this weekend at the state track and field meet.
I talked to head coach Laura Ewing this week.
Our individual qualifier, Maddie Hubert.
She qualified in these shot puts and she's going to be competing on Saturday.
And then we have two relays are four by two hundred meter relay.
That is Ravi Budden, Kevin Hernandez, Fletcher Harper, Nason Jalenek and Duncan Harper.
They're going to be competing on Friday for prelims and then hopefully they can make it in the top 10 to go to finals on Saturday.
And then our four by four hundred meter relay or boys four by four hundred.
It also qualified for states and that would consist of Ravi Budden, Fletcher Harper,
Grayson Banker, Kevin Hernandez, Harrison Carpenter and Duncan Harper.
And they are currently in the top 10 in the state right now in our division D2.
So hopefully again, they'll be competing at preliminaries on Friday and then again,
hopefully making it to the top 10 to compete on Saturday during finals.
RC track coach Laura Ewing on WRCO Sports.
Well, the Brewers ninth win in 10 games was one of the easier ones when the afternoons 9-1 decision
at Cincinnati's Great American Ballpark clinched a 12th straight series win over the division rivals.
Most of the runs came on home runs, two runs shots by Jackson Cherio and Daz Cameron
and a three run big fly by Isaac Collins. Quinn Priester earned the win by holding the
reds to a single run in five relief innings. Ben at your pet Murphy said that the reserves did a
great job. Very pleased with those reserves, so to speak, Hoss and Monasterio and Daz Cameron,
they had good games and they're hungry to play and that's what it's about. It should be that
competitive where your bench can interchange with, you know, William needed it, much needed day off.
It's that time of year where, you know, it's tough when you catch that much, you know,
so we expect those guys to go in and do that. And Murphy talked about Quinn Priester.
Here with the game for me, you know, he just quietly went out there and gave us five innings
and just buried down was good, you know, he's still a young pitcher working progress and pitching
coaches have done a great job making it simple. And he's he stepped up big time. I think that was
really great performance for him elsewhere in baseball action. Colorado three two over Miami,
Arizona two Atlanta one San Francisco six five over San Diego and the Mets were winners against
the Dodgers six one. The Cubs lost to Washington to nothing. In the American League, Boston 11,
the Angels nine Cleveland four nothing over the Yankees Tampa Bay five Texas four Detroit five
four over the white socks Baltimore three Seattle two Minnesota six one over the athletics.
Inter League play Pittsburgh three nothing over Houston Toronto two Philadelphia one Kansas City at
St. Louis post-poned and in the NHL playoffs in overtime Edmonton four Florida three University
of Wisconsin whitewater is claimed it's third division three national title. It wasn't safe to
be a pitcher during the finals. The Warhawks pounded their way to the NCAA championship with a 21
five decision over Messiah University of Pennsylvania. Andy Thes opened the scoring with a three run
home run and Matt Skolan went deep twice starting pitcher Cade Hanson picked up the win. Whitewater
also won the big prize in 2005 and 2014. I'm Filney with sports.
