Support is growing for an expanded WIA state boys and girls basketball tournament.

A poll for the coaches across the state was made recently and there are proposals on the board to expand the five divisions with eight teams going to the state tournament.

They would need three sites for Wednesday to play state quarter finals.

They would need the coal center on Thursday morning to play two state quarter final games and then divide the state up to eight sectionals eventually.

The majority of the state tournament will remain the same Thursday through Saturday at the rest center in Green Bay or the coal center in Madison.

That's being proposed and in other states certainly that is the case with several more teams making it to the state level and Wisconsin state coaches looking to expand that.

And bring that up to speed with what other states would be doing.

There is proposal for the WIA state tournament to expand on the table.

That would be for the school year of two thousand twenty six twenty seven.

It's a busy high school sports day today.

There is JV golf going on at quail run golf course getting underway today at four as they host teams from the Southwest Wisconsin conference.

The Richland Center baseball teams will be making up the event that was canceled last Thursday with Prairie Dushin.

The game gets underway at five today at the Richland Center baseball fields.

The Richland Center soccer teams are playing at Wisconsin Heights today kickoff time at five o'clock and the Richland Center's softball team is at River Valley.

We'll have a call of that game tonight is our featured spring sports broadcast pregame time four forty five first pitch time around five o'clock.

On WRC OFM 100 point nine and WRC O dot com at River Valley the River Valley baseball team is hosting landcaster.

That also is a makeup game from last Thursday and the River Valley soccer team will be at Dodgeville high school to take on Dodgeville mineral point.

The Riverdale track teams will be at Southwestern this afternoon.

The meat gets underway at four o'clock Riverdale softball team is home against Fenimore.

Ithaca Weston's track team will be among those at the Kikapoo high school track event.

That varsity meat gets underway at four thirty and the Ithaca and baseball and softball teams playing at LaFarge this afternoon at five o'clock.

Weston will be hosting Kikapoo at Casanovia Memorial Park in baseball and softball games will get underway today at five p.m.

The home talent baseball season will begin soon for many teams in Southwest Wisconsin.

There are a few games this weekend many of them are exhibition games.

The home talent league is scheduled to officially start on Sunday May 18th and there will be lots of area games among them.

The Muscaday Mudcats will begin their campaign with a home game and that's during the Muscaday Morale Mushroom Festival weekend next weekend.

So one o'clock start time for that game next Sunday for the Muscaday Mudcats.

Lots of other events going on around games.

The Casanovia Reds will start at home on May 18th and will continue on with games and events throughout the spring and summer at Casanovia Memorial Park.

We'll have coverage of various Muscaday and Casanovia Games this year.

Plus the plain A's are back in the league they'll have a team and the arena team will be in action coming up starting this weekend with exhibition games and through the summer as well.

So we'll be proud to bring you the home talent baseball schedule.

The home talent schedule continues for teams across Southern Southwestern and South Central Wisconsin.

The league has been around since the year of 1929.

On to the national scene where the Astros avoided a sweep in Milwaukee by winning Wednesday afternoon, that score was 9-1.

The Brewers only run came on a fifth inning home run from Erica's.

The loss ends a three game winning streak.

Quinn Priester only gave up one earned run in five innings, three overall but took the loss.

Former Brew Crew Closer Josh Hader pitched the ninth inning in his first appearance in Milwaukee since 2022.

The Brewers are off today.

Then they will play the Tampa Bay Arrays Friday and veteran Jose Quintana will be getting the start for Milwaukee on Friday in Florida.

Other games that went on yesterday in the major leagues in the inter league play.

It was Cleveland 8-6 over Washington, Philadelphia beat Tampa Bay 7-0.

The Yankees 4 San Diego 3 Detroit 8-6 over Colorado.

In the national league, the Cubs lost to San Francisco 3-1, St. Louis 5, Pittsburgh nothing.

The Mets 7-1 over Arizona Dodgers 10 Miami 1 Cincinnati 4-3 over Atlanta.

In the American League, Seattle 6, the Athletics 5 Boston 6-4 over Texas.

Kansas City 2, the White Sox 1, Minnesota 5-2 over Baltimore and the LA Angels picked up a win over Toronto 5-4.

From the NBA playoffs last night, New York was a winner edging Boston 91-90.

Michele Bridges scored all of his 14 points in the fourth quarter before making his second straight game clinching steel.

And the mix overcame a 20 point deficit again to beat the Boston Celtics last night.

It was a 149-106 laffer as Oklahoma City got the win over Denver last evening in NBA playoff ball.

The Warriors are planning a play without Stefan Curry for at least the next three games of their second round series against Minnesota.

An MRI on Wednesday confirmed a mild strain of the star guard's left hamstring.

The Warriors said Curry would be sidelined at least a week after the injury forced him out early in the second game of the Game 1 win.

He had 13 points and 13 minutes to help Golden State take home court advantage away from the Timberwolves.

Game 2 is coming up tonight. The earliest return for Curry appears to be Game 5 on May 14th.

NCAA settlement plans for roster limits get to do overs to save players who lost spots on teams.

Attorneys handling the 2.8 billion dollar NCAA settlement are proposing a massive do over.

They want schools to offer athletes who lost their spots a chance to be on teams without counting against the new caps for as long as they have eligibility.

Those players can be invited back to compete for roster spots or go to new schools as well.

University of Wisconsin Green Bay coach Doug Gottlieb will make some changes in his daily routine next season.

Gottlieb says he will continue to host his national radio show but will reduce his broadcasting workload especially on game days.

The Green Bay Presca set reports the decision was Gottlieb's after a 4 and 28 first season with him leading the program.

The university did not pressure him reportedly to reduce his outside workload.
