Yesterday in high school, softball Riverdale was a winner over Royal 6-3, Broadhead got
the win against Fall Creek, 7-4, Belman over Seneca, 14-3, and Verokwa, 9-8 over Hillsboro,
Tashton, defeated Westby, 8-1, and Phenomore over Readsburg, 97.
The Richland Center High School baseball team will make a trip this week to Missouri
to play four games.
Coach Ryan Lemke talked this week about how that came about.
It's been a long time in the making.
I had this opportunity when I was a player in Chicago, Chicago land area as well as a volunteer
coach in Chicago land area, a lot of the area high schools would go down on a southern
trip, and that was a great tradition.
So that's what I've had them been working on for the last few years, almost, to bring
something like that for our student athletes at Richland Center High School and start
with the baseball team and a nice, long southern trip, and not too late to play some games
as well as an awesome bonding experience.
But it's certainly been a long road to get this thing planned, and now we're on the
eve of going, so we're really excited about it.
The Hornets first game will be on Tuesday in Missouri.
Aaron Judge combined with Paul Goldschmidt and Cody Belinger to go deep on the first
three pitches from Nester Cortes, then hit two more homers as the Yankee set a team record
with nine home runs against the Brewers.
Judge hit a solo homer, his ninth career Grand Slam, and a two-run shot in his 40th multi-homer
game and third with three homers.
He finished with a career high eight RBI's in New York's 20 to nine victory over our
Brewers.
He came up just short of becoming the 19th player to hit four home runs in a game when
his sixth inning fly fell on the right field warning track for a run scoring double.
Lars Nutebar had two hits into RBI's, helping Eric Fettie and the St. Louis Cardinals beat
the twins, 5-1.
Nolan Aeronato, Ivonne Herrera, and Victor Scott II also had two hits apiece for St. Louis,
which beat Minnesota 5-3 on Thursday opening day.
Fettie permitted one run and two hits in six innings.
The Cardinals scored three runs in the sixth to open up a 4-1 lead.
Minnesota starter Joe Ryan pitched five innings of five hit ball.
He struck out five and walked none.
Three times saw Young Award winner Max Scherzer left his debut start with the Blue Jays because
of Soreness in his right lat muscle.
Facing Baltimore shares are allowed two runs and three hits, including two solo home
runs.
He threw 45 pitches in three innings, 28 for strikes.
Elsewhere the box lost to the next last night, 1-16-107, the box now have lost three consecutive
games.
Milwaukee's Yannis-Anthida Cumpo had 30 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists after
missing one game with a sprained left foot.
Yannis-Anthida Cumpo says he appreciated the compliment LeBron James gave him by saying
the Milwaukee Bucks star could have scored 250 points in a game if he'd played in the 1970s.
But the two time MVP also said it isn't really a fair comparison.
James had made the remark on ESPN's The Pat McAfee show while discussing how basketball
had evolved over the last century or so.
Yannis said that I don't think it's fair to compare and had it that I'd probably play
the same way they played if I played in the 1970s.
The Buffalo Bills reached an agreement to sign quarterback Christian Benford to a four
years 76 million dollar deal and extension to secure a young core player to a long-term
deal.
Of course, and confirmed it with the Associated Press today, Benford has been a Bill
Starter since winning the job to open his second season.
The NCAA Elite Eight games continue.
There will be games coming up Texas Tech and Florida and Alabama and Duke meet later
today for tomorrow Houston and Tennessee will meet an Auburn and Michigan state as
well.
Big games coming up in the NCAA and we'll see how many more brackets are busted by the
end of the weekend.
