Girls Basketball: Boscobel at Richland Center

I'm Phil Nee for WRCO sports.

This past weekend saw a WIA regional wrestling tournaments around the state combine regionals

for the girls and super regionals for the boys as well.

Let's look at how area teams did Saturday individually, Riverdale with seven sectional

qualifiers, including regional champions Lakota Brewer, Brody Mice and Grant Matthews, also

advancing for the Chieftains were a pair of seniors, Chase McGuire and Talon Chiles and

a pair of freshmen, James Schram and Hunter Wilkinson.

Ithaca Weston is advancing five boys to the sectional, including regional runners-up,

Derek Franzon, Nolan Waldner and Caden Coleman.

They are joined by teammates Ashton Bennett and Mack Neef, the latter of whom returned

to the lineup for the first time since mid-December.

Ithaca Weston also has a pair of girls who advanced from Friday night's regional at

Richland Center, Briella Granger and regional champion Kaylee Manning.

Chief Crawford Seneca has four boys and three girls who will compete at the sectional

for the boys.

Seeing your regional champion, Jiren Grimsled will be joined by Thomas Frosty, Sawyer

Swigham and Gavin Wilkins.

The North Crawford Seneca girl season continues for Harper Gagas, Zoe Log and regional champion

Frankie Groom.

Bosqueville, Azika Stuban is celebrating two boys and two girls who are sectional qualifiers.

Joe Wetter and Ashton Udlhoven for the boys, Peyton Sanders and Lexi Lathrop for the

girls.

Iowa Grant Highland had the most individual champions for at the super regional, Brock

Hinderman, Tyson M. Hoff, Jackson Bussey and Gavin Hinderman.

The rest of the 12-man contingent of the sectional includes Lucas Christensen, Bodie Brock

up, Aiden Bedward, Griffin Wineske, Hayden Aldman, along with Colton Williams, Jackson

McGuire and Tucker Dagenhart.

In addition, the lone girl wrestling for Iowa Grant Highland Friday night, Maria Schaefer

also qualified for this sectional this weekend.

Tickleville LeFarge has six girls who advanced out of Friday night's Richland Center Regional,

Maddie Townsend, Mariana Miller, Emerson Miller, along with Mara Hubley and Grace Anderson,

along with regional champion Laura Lai Young.

In center girls advancing our Valerie Fauver and regional champion Madeline Muller, River

Valley qualified four girls for the sectional Mackenzie Sholti, Cameron Neif, Hazel Corbett

and regional champion Montana Jolls.

Teamwise at Saturday's division three super regional at Mineral Point for the boys, the

top two teams finish with one point from each other as Mineral Point edge out Iowa Grant

Highland 261 and a half to 260 and a half in both teams advance to the team sectional.

The Richland Center Hornets hosted a WIA division two super regional Saturday.

There were 14 teams representing seven different conferences, the Hornets were able to advance

to the Wisconsin L sectional this Saturday, Caden Stibby, Ethan Haiti, Ethan Bowdoin, Mason

Joleneck and Ethan Bindel.

At the Dodgeville Regional on Saturday, the Dodgers advanced Blake Faust, Shane Roshan,

Rhett Spurley, Nathan Johnson and Hawkins Peterson to the sectional, River Valley will be

represented by Mason Sholti and Blake Brickle this weekend as well.

Teamwise out of Dodgeville, Fenemore with 242, Belmont Platteville 193 advancing to the

team sectional and out of Richland Center, Galetric Trempolo Melrose-Mendoro with 275 to

Lodai's 228 and a half.

Team sectional is coming up tomorrow night at various locations across the state.

Division two teams from our immediate area head to Prairie Dushin, that's where Galetric

Trempolo Melrose-Mendoro will meet Belmont Platteville and Fenemore will wrestle Lodai

at six o'clock Tuesday with the winners to meet in the following match around eight o'clock.

Division three at Mineral Point, Aquinas will take on Iowa Grant Highland and Mineral Point

will wrestle Royal Waniwak Center in match two.

The winners will face off then at around eight o'clock.

WIA Girls Basketball Regionals began one week from tomorrow night.

Richland Center's 10th seed will play at number seven, Broadhead to begin the tournament

next Tuesday.

Dodgeville and 11th seed will play at number six, River Valley with the winner to play

at Prairie Dushin in the next round.

The Broadhead Richland Center winner will play at Platteville in the next round, both

of those teams have first round buys.

Baroko will play at Stanley Boyd in Division three, Adam's friendship will host Black River

Falls.

In Division four games next week, Riverdale will have a home game.

The Cheafdons will host Parkview, the winner of that game will play at Cuba City in the

next round.

Lancaster will host Iowa Grant, Westby at Darlington and Fenemore at New Glarris.

In the Girls Basketball Pairings for Division five, just released yesterday, Ithaca will be

at home against Highland.

Benton will play at Schoesburg.

North Crawford at River Ridge, Wazika Stuban hosts Seneca, Belmont will be hosting Bosca

Bell, Black Hawk hosting Southwestern and Potosi Castle travels to DeSoto, Kickup

who will be home against Plum City, Elmwood.

The Panthers are a third seed.

Ashton will be hosting Waniwak Center, Brookwood at Cochran Fountain City.

Also Hillsboro is seventh seed will host number 10 Royal and the Farge Youth Initiative will

be at Aliva Strum.

Wisconsin Heights will be home against Ozaki among the D-5 Girls Basketball Pairings.

Girls Basketball tonight will be on hand at Richland Center High School when the Hornets

are playing host to the Bosca Bell Bulldogs.

The Hornets picked up their first win of the year last week, they'll be hosting Bosca

Bell tonight.

Under the action on FM 100.9 and WRC.com, Westby travels to Boston and was Zika Stuban

at Varroqua.

Boys basketball the Farge at Royal, Kickup who had Seneca from makeup game, Bangor at

Black River Falls, Ithaca at Cashton, Cassville at Riverdale, Dodgeville at Darlington, Platt

Village Mineral Point and Bosca Bell at River Valley.

Bowling stores from youth bowling over the weekend, the Girls High Series, Jocelyn

Adams of 481 and a 178 high game for Jocelyn, for the boys.

It was straight in the ship with a 643 series, Caden Keller, 594, Thomas Friel of 546.

Boys high game, Caden Keller, 258, Brady Blado, a 234, Tratinship, a 230 in youth bowling.

Led by John Tonjay's 32 points, the Badgers upset number 7 Purdue, 94 84 Saturday,

John J scored 22 of those points in the second half.

He did a lot of the heavy lifting while Wisconsin scored 11 straight points to take the lead.

Guard Camarri McGee was ejected after officials determined a first half foul was flagrant.

Coach Greg guard squad hit 18 of 25 second half shots while winning its fourth straight game.

The Badgers host Ilyloy on Tuesday.

Elsewhere in sports from over the weekend, basketball news, the Badger women's team beat Penn

State on the road Sunday afternoon by a score of 75 68.

Sarah Williams led the Badgers with 23 points.

Ronnie Porter also picked up a double double with 18 points and a career high 12 assists.

The Badgers host Northwestern on Sunday at 2 o'clock for senior day.

In men's basketball Michigan 86 83 over Ohio State and Maryland beat Iowa by a score of 101 to 75.

Brewers top pitching prospect Josh Canove will miss the 2025 season after undergoing Tommy

John surgery.

Canove was picked in the first round of the 23 draft out of high school.

The scouting report notes his 96 mile an hour fastball and strong secondary pitches,

a curve and a slider.

He missed last time with a sore elbow and wound up pitching just 84 innings last season.

Bucks sharp shooting guard Damien Lillard hoped to win his third straight three point shooting

competition during NBA All-Star weekend.

Instead, he was knocked out of the first round and Tyler Herald of the heat.

Grab the title.

Lillard is a native of nearby Oakland while the NBA stars were showing up through stuff

across the Bay in San Francisco.

Milwaukee is back from the All-Star break Thursday when it host the Los Angeles Clippers.

William Byron raced to his second straight Daytona 500 victory dodging a string of late

race wrecks that knocked out a chunk of contenders and sent the Hendrick Motorsports driver

into victory lane Sunday night at Daytona International Speedway.

The area boys basketball schedule tonight features LaFarge at Royal.

It's Kikapoo at Seneca, Bangor at Black River Falls.

So Ithaca travels to Cashton, Cassville at Riverdale, Dodgeville at Darlington, Platte

ville at Mineral Point, Boskebel at River Valley, and North Crawford is at Weston for a makeup

game.

In area girls basketball, Azika Stuban is at Varroqua.

Also in the area tonight, a light dusting of girls' games, they include Westby at

Mosston and coming up on WRCO Boskebel at Richland Center.

Richland Center coach Jeremy Kui talked about the team's first win of the year last week.

It was a great feeling.

I just felt happy for the girls.

They finally came together and played the entire game.

We knew they had been capable of all years.

So it was good to see them put together the game and not give up when they were down

and to fight back and to take that game and over time.

Because of Wisconsin's upset victory at Purdue, the Badgers have moved up five spots from number 16

to number 11 in the Associated Press men's college basketball poll.

Auburn is number 1 for the sixth consecutive week.

The Tigers claimed 59 of 61st place votes in the latest poll after beating then number 1 Alabama on the road.

Florida claimed the other first place vote and broke last week's tie with Duke to move up to second.

The Southeast String Conference has a national best 9 ranked teams.

Number 25 Louisville returned to the poll for the week's only new edition.

Buck Sharp shooting guard Damian Lillard hoped to win his third straight three point shooting

competition during the NBA All-Star weekend. Instead, he was knocked out in the first round

and Tyler Herald of the Miami Heat grabbed the title. Lillard is an native of nearby Oakland

while the NBA stars were showing their stuff across the bay in San Francisco.

Walkies back from the All-Star break on Thursday when they host the Los Angeles Clippers.

faced. Profitball focus agrees, ranking the Green Bay linemen, six among all NFL offensive

tackles overall and third for run blocking. Tom was drafted in the fourth round in 2022.
