I'm Phil me for W R CEO sports. There's area basketball action tonight, as we get back
to the schedule after a snowy Wednesday. Boys games include Richland Center at Prairie
Dushin tonight, Platteville at Lancaster and River Valley at Dodgeville.
Phenomore travels to Highland Hillsboro at Luther. It's Weston at New Lisbon, Verokwood,
Westby, Watoma at Wisconsin, Dells, Barrowwood, Readsburg, and Wozika Stuben plays at Seneca.
Hills Basketball Riverdale is at Wozika Stuben, Cubicity at Dixon, Illinois, Cashton at
Woneywalk Center, New Lisbon at Royal, Brookwood at Hillsboro, Seneca at DeSoto, Kikapu at North
Crawford, and LaFarge, Youth Initiative will play at Ithaca for Girls Basketball.
Well, the game tonight on WRC, I'll begin with a pregame time around 6.45. Lots of wrestling
action going on this weekend. The girls tournaments will begin on Friday night at various locations.
It is a one-class system in the girls competition. Richland Center will host a regional. It will
get underway at five o'clock for the first session on Friday night. Mineral Point will
host a session as well. It gets underway at four for the girls' regionals. The teams
that advance and girls at advance will compete next week at sectionals for the right to
wrestle at state. And the boys tournament is this weekend on Saturday in Division
3. Aquinas will host a tournament, which will include the likes of Brookwood and Cashton
in Hillsboro, New Lisbon, Royal, Woneywalk Center, and Westby from our immediate area. And Mineral Point
hosts a Division 3 event as well. Boschabell, Uzika, Stuben will be there along with DeSoto,
Iowa, Grand Highland, Ithaca, Weston, Kikapu at Farge, Youth Initiative, Lancaster, Mineral Point,
North Crawford, Seneca, along with River Ridge and Riverdale from our area. Ithaca,
Weston, Cohen, Coach, Troy, Clary, talked to me about the recent conference tournament
between the scenic Ridge and River's last Saturday and how his team performed.
I thought we did as well as we could have. We only had like half a team. We only had seven
wrestlers. We finished third, a strong third, Royal and DeSoto. They definitely dominated
it just because of their numbers. But overall, I think it was a good tune up for us to get ready
for the regionals. So the next question is, will the team be a little bit more healthier or
full strength coming up this weekend? I think we're about where we're at. We ain't gaining anybody
back. I would hope that some of it, we're still getting back from illnesses. Hopefully,
we'll be stronger individually. A hundred more has been struggling with illness.
And as far as the girls, Kaylee Manning has been struggling for the girls with a sickness.
So hopefully this week, they will get back to their full strength and the snow. The snow day
yesterday didn't help, but we're getting better as far as health wise.
Here at the goeston, certainly was affected by injuries this year as well.
Yeah, we had two guys who were down with actually three guys who were down with injuries that
ended their, pretty much their season. Like Bingham had a shoulder issue and that knee pad
on the niscus issue. So yeah, it took a, it took a herd on us, but the team is, you know,
battled through it and individually, we're not too bad.
This weekend in division two action, Richland Center will host a regional that will include
lots of teams from long, long away away. Richland Center and Verokua, probably the coaches to
each other and Lodi is there along with Mauston, but also coming in Adam's friendship,
Arcadia, Black River Falls, G.E. T. Melrose, Mendoro, Lodi, Nielsville, Granton,
Boyle, also in Acusa, assumption port Edwards, Raya, Camry, Friesland, Fall River, Randolph,
Watoma, Wild Rose as well. And at Dodgeville, division two, River Valley will be there,
along with several teams from the conference, Belmont, Plattville, Kibbaciti, Benton,
Southwestern, Darlington, Black Hawk, and Dodgeville, along with the,
Bloit Turner team and Monroe, Belleville, Monticello, New Glarris as well in action that will be held
and hosted by Dodgeville. So it is super regional action. That's coming up on Saturday.
We'll have recaps and reports beginning with our sports reports on Saturday morning and wrestling
gets underway with the boys, regionals at 10 o'clock. Merchants bowling league action from last night,
Premier co-op with a 28-51, bubbling springs at 27-98, and good enough with a 27-23.
Premier co-op had a 10-16 game, Richland Locker, a 9-88, bubbling springs at 9-82. Isaac
Davis sent with a 6-65 top series, Nate Peck, 641, Greg Ballweg is 6-22. Andy Keller at a 245
top game, Dakota Pauls and Kevin Genfie, each had 237s, and Isaac Davis in with a 232
in the Merchants bowling league. When Kyle Kuzma grabbed the rebound from Anthony Edwards,
missed three pointer, it secured a 103-101 victory for the box last night. Gary Trent Jr.
led Milwaukee's scoring with 21 points on the road at Minnesota. Kuzma added 19 to go with 13
rebounds. Milwaukee was playing without Yanis out at a Cumpo and Damien Lillard in the last
game before the NBA All-Star break. Other NBA games Orlando 102 Charlotte 86, Boston Beat
San Antonio 116-103, Indiana in overtime over Washington 134-130. Cleveland 131 Toronto 108,
Brooklyn 100 Philadelphia 96, Oklahoma City beat Miami 115-101, Sacramento over New Orleans
111-111, Detroit 128 Chicago 110, New York in overtime over Atlanta 149-148, Houston 119,
Phoenix 111, Utah 131, the Lakers 119, Denver 132, Portland 121, Dallas over Golden State 111-107,
and the Clippers got the win against Memphis 128-114.
Legendary Batcher football coach Barry Elvarez says the Wisconsin program is not where it should be
during an appearance on ESPN radio Madison. He voiced his frustration following the five and
seven season. Elvarez didn't take aim at head coach Luke fickle, but he did call out the program.
He told the radio host, I don't like where we are right now. Elvarez pointed out how hard the
work was to build the program to where it went to bull games for more than 20 straight years and he
wants that back. New Orleans is still cleaning up from the Super Bowl and already the NFL experts
are projecting who will be in the big game next year before any possible trades in the annual draft.
ESPN ranks five teams ahead of Green Bay. Analyst Jeremy Fowler says the Packers can be elite
with just a few additions. Fowler says the team is good, but not great yet. For the record ESPN
ranks the Eagles, the Chiefs, the Ravens, the Bills, and the Lions with a better chance to make
the next Super Bowl than the Packers. In Women's Basketball last night, Grace van Sluton scored 22
on 10-13 shooting and number 22 Michigan State rolled to a 91-71 win over Wisconsin.
The Badgers stayed with Michigan State in the second quarter, trailing 43-32 but went on to
defeat. Sarah Williams had 23 points and 12 rebounds for the Women Badgers.
And the Brewers added a rotation candidate agreeing to a $1 million one-year deal with 30-year-old
left-hander Tyler Alexander. He can earn an additional $1 million in performance bonuses for
innings. Alexander went six and four with a 5-10 ERA in 23 games for Tampa Bay last season.
He struck out 90 and walked 24 in 107 and two-thirds innings selected by Detroit in the second
round of the 2015 amateur draft. Alexander is 17 and 28 with a 455 ERA in 143 appearances
over six big league seasons with Detroit and the Rays. I'm Philney with Sports.
