I'm Filney with sports on Saturday and area boys basketball. It was
Plattville getting a win against Phenomore and boys basketball 75 57 while the
Plattville girls defeated Phenomore 69 to 34. Really not a lot of games
scheduled until this weekend. There are lots of holiday
tournaments going on at various locations on Friday and Saturday.
More about that. There is one local game coming up this evening. That's
Wisconsin Heights playing at Moscow. Over the weekend, plenty of wrestling
right here in Richland Center, Bill Twining and David Wurman were there and
Bill Files this report recapping Saturday's action. The 61st annual Richland
Center wrestling invitation that was held Saturday at the Richland
Center High School Fieldhouse. And for the third straight year, Iowa
Grant Highland laid claim to the team championship. The Panthers totaled
308 points while Gail Patrick Trembolo Melrose-Modoro was runner up for the
second year in a row. The Titans finished with 294 and a half led by the
tournament's most valuable wrestler, two-time champion Colton Coss.
Bill Mott Plattville had its best showing in years finishing third with 260
and a half points. All Readsburg was fourth at 216 and a half.
Riverdale was solid fifth at 187 and a half. River Valley nipped
Ithaca Weston for sixth place, 136 to 133 and a half.
Next came Toma just ahead of Host Richland Center for eighth place,
126 and a half to 125 and Barabu was 10th at 122 and a half.
Running out the 17 team field scoring were Cochran Fountain City,
Cashton, Boschabell-Wazika Stuben, Holman's varsity reserve,
Hillsboro, Westby and River Ridge. Prior to the finals, four
individuals were inducted into the Richland Center High School Wrestling
Hall of Honor. Long time coach at the Richland Middle School
Andy Spees and state place winners Justin Lamberies,
Todd Gunderson and Buck Fish. History was made when Readsburg senior trainer
Curtin took the championship at 120 pounds, becoming just a 13th
wrestler to win four titles at the Richland
Invitational, the last being Hunter Dishler of Ithaca Weston in 2015.
I have a grant Highland junior Jackson Bussey could be next in line as he won
the 165 poundway class in convincing fashion and claimed his third title
at the Richland Center Invitational. The 126 poundway class featured three
wrestlers who had previously won titles in the event. Junior Colton
Coss of G.E.T. Melrose-Modoro came out on top to win his second crown
along the way defeating former champ Cade Parachie of Readsburg in the semi-finals
and then outlasting former champ Ethan Hady of Richland Center
with a nine to six victory and overtime moments after Hady's reversal
tied the score at the end of regulation. For his efforts, Colton Coss was
named the most valuable wrestler. The only other wrestlers to win
repeat titles were Iowa Grant Highland Junior Tyson Imhoff at 157 pounds
and Riverdale Junior Grant Matthews at 285
with Matthews win a tournament ending pin in 409 over Bodie Brock Hoppe of Iowa
Grant Highland in a battle of champions from a year ago.
Other champs at the RC Invitational Saturday were Gavin Hinderman of Iowa Grant Highland,
both Dylan and Briggs Wiegel of Belmont Platville,
Tomas Cameron Finch and Blake Champlain,
Freshman Braden Hale Tumey of Readsburg,
Baribu Senior Peyton Oberg,
Senior Caden Davis of Belmont Platville,
and sophomore Aaron Dunnigan of Gail at Brick Trumplow Melrose-Modoro.
Here's how things went for Area Team Saturday at the Richland Center Invitational.
Richland Center was led by Senior Ethan Hady's second place finish at 126 pounds,
three Hornets placed fifth, Freshman Caden Stibby at 113,
Junior Ethan Bodendine at 175, and Senior Mason Jolaniq at 190,

In addition, Caden Coleman was sixth and sophomore
Karek Thompson seventh for Ethica Weston.
Riverdale under new coach Marcus Ingles boasts the championship of Grant Matthews and
had two other wrestlers reach the finals before placing second.
Freshman James Schram at 106 pounds and sophomore Lakota Brewer at 132.
Freshman Hunter Wilkinson and Senior Brody Meese each finished third.
Wyatt Schram and Treston Renish were both fifth.
Wyatt McGuire sixth.
Caden Courier seventh and Chase McGuire eighth for Riverdale.
River Valley's top finish on the day was a runner-up effort from Junior Blake Brickle at 190 pounds.
Senior Wyatt Nockranner won his third place match at 157,
while sophomore's Jackson Sheel and Tylarsson and Senior Hunter Alt all finished fourth.
Junior Tyler Maxwell was sixth for the Black Hawks.
Iowa Grant Highland placed in 13 of the 14-way classes led by the three champions Tyson
M. Hoff, Jackson Bussey and Gavin Hinderman, former champs Brock Hinderman and Bodie Brock
Cop, each placed second while Freshman Griffin Weneski and Senior Jackson McGuire won third
place matches to lead the way. Boschabel Wazika Stuban had just three entrants in the tournament.
Two of them placed, sophomore Ashton Yulehoven was fifth at 120 pounds
and Junior Jobwater sixth at 157.
And Hillsboro was also hampered by lack of numbers with one of only four wrestlers
placing for the Tigers.
Junior Ryan McCoyke was third for Hillsboro at 215 pounds.
Repeating, I have a Grant Highland won Saturday's 61st annual Richland Invitational Wrestling
Tournament, winning for the third straight year. Among all teams, Riverdale was fifth,
River Valley sixth, Ithaca Weston seventh, and Richland Center ninth.
For WRC Radio Sports and David Wormand, I'm Bill Twining.
Thanks Bill. Join his four updates on the by-state wrestling tournament
from lacrosse coming up on Friday and Saturday of this weekend.
Over the weekend, youth bowling top series, Jocelyn Adams 462, Abbey Weagle with a 281,

The Packers are 14 point favorites to beat the Saints at home on Monday Night Football.
A victory in Lambo Field would mean Green Bay is in the postseason
for the fifth time in the last six years. Detroit's victory Sunday eliminates the chance
that the Packers might come from behind to claim the NFC North title.
They can still miss the playoffs by losing the last three games.
Coach Matlow Florey yesterday talked about the quarterback that the Packers will see tonight
Spencer Ratler. He's a talented guy. I mean, he was highly recruited coming out high school and
has been able to produce at the college level. So like I said, he's a natural
thrower. I was impressed with him through the draft process last year.
And so he's got a lot of talent. He's got some weapons around him.
The Florey says the Saints will be no pushover.
This is a national football league. I don't care who you're playing it.
So and I got a lot of respect for these guys. And if you looked at what they've
been able to accomplish in a short period of time, I mean, look at the game last week
and their ability to come back. And I mean, they had a chance to win the game on the last play of the
game. So to me every week's the same. The Packers and the Saints tonight can be heard on WRCO
pregame time five o'clock from Monday night football. Yesterday, it was Atlanta over the Giants 34
seven Carolina one and over time over Arizona 36 30 since an anti 24 Cleveland six Detroit 34,
the Bears 17 Indianapolis 38 30 over Tennessee. The Rams 19, the Jets nine,
Washington 36 Philadelphia 33 Minnesota came from behind to defeat Seattle 27 24 Buffalo
over New England 24 21 Las Vegas 19 Jacksonville 14 Miami got the win against San Francisco 29 17
and Dallas over Tampa Bay 26 24. The Badgerman's basketball team dominated the inside game while
beating Detroit, Mercy 76 53 Sunday, sophomore Ford Nolan White produced a double double with 18
points and 11 rebounds. Senior Center Stephen Crowe had 15 Wisconsin blew the non conference game
open with a 14 point run midway through the first half. The Badgers are back in action at home
January 3 when they host the Iowa Hawkeyes. The Golden Eagles survived late rally by Xavier at a 72
70 road win Saturday. Marquette had led most of the game when the musketeers scored 12 straight points
and took a 64 63 lead with two minutes left. Coach Shaka smarts team outscored the home team
nine six the rest of the way. Eagles are off until December 31st when they play at Providence.
Yana sounded a combo and Damien Lillard are listed as doubtful for tonight's game at Chicago.
The Bucks beat the Wizards 1,121 Saturday with both stars missing. Bobby Portis led the way
with 34 points and Chris Middleton was in the starting lineup for the first time this season.
Milwaukee is 15 and 12 good for fifth in the NBA Eastern Conference standings. I'm Phil D with sports.
