I'm Phil Ney with sports, the Richland Center boys basketball team won the season opener 61-44 at home against
Farokwa last night. The win avenged two against the Black Hawk's last season, including it over time
defeat in the WYA playoffs. The game was close until early in the second half. The Hornets led 27-24
at halftime. The Black Hawk scored the first five points after halftime and held their last lead
at 29-27. Richland Center went on in 11-0 run and never trailed after that on the way to the win.
sophomore Jaden Shep had 19, including four three-pointers and senior West Bosworth, also at 19,
from the low post. Senior Trayton Shep had 10 and senior Garrison Weiss had nine points.
Junior Liam Fingerson added four. Richland Center was five for eight from the free throw line.
Roca was paced by senior Benson McDowell, who had a game high 20 points, including three three
point baskets. Senior Solomon Murdoch had nine. The Black Hawks were eight for 12 from the free throw
stripe. The Richland Center JV-1 team played Hillsboro and lost to the Tigers 43-38 in the early
game last night at the RCHS Field House. Following the 61-44 varsity win, Richland Center will have
some practice time and preparation for a road trip to Sock Prairie next Tuesday night.
Verocal will prepare for league action against West Salem next Thursday.

last night, run their win streak to 5, even though they were playing without Yanisante de
Compo 37 points by Damien Lillard, powered Milwaukee to a 106 103 victory at Miami. Lillard
connected on 8 of 13 three pointers and the Bucks were 20-42 as a team, the heat were good on
just 10 of 29. The decision keeps Milwaukee alive in the NBA's in-season tournament. Brook Lopez
talked about how they overcame playing without Yanisante. We all know that collectively we have to
step up as a unit individually got to step up and it's just time to be ready so we know what the
job is, it's so same assignment. And Damien Lillard talked about the team stepping up when
one is gone. There's always going to be done by committee, everybody's going to have to do a
little bit more with such a hole. I know that guys are going to look to meet a step up,
whether they're scoring or making their plays or my voice being a little bit louder. I saw it,
I knew once they said he wasn't going to be in a lineup, I need to come out and be in the tag mode
and just try to make things happen and just have that energy.
