I'm Filney with sports. The Ithaca girls basketball team won its home opener 51 30 over

one Ewok center last night. It was the first win for the Lady Bulldogs after two losses last

week during the first week of the season. The wolves fell to one and two with the loss.

had five points including the team's only three point basket. Senior Holly King total two

baskets for four points and sophomore Kelsey Coleman had two points. The team shot four for seven

from the free throw line. For the Ewok center wolves senior Olivia Olsen and freshman Kendall

Row each had 10 points. Freshman Brynn Burns added eight including the team's only three pointer

and senior Addison Benish had two. The wolves were two for two from the free throw line.

Following Ithaca's 51 30 win they will prepare for the Ridge and Valley Conference opener on

Friday December 6th when they travel to Seneca. Wondering what center will open league play next week

against Royal. Kikapoo was a winner in a non-conference game 60 to 45 over Cashton leading the Panthers

Jaden Snagel with 16 Gwen Fredrickson added 11 Michaela Kaufman 10 Kennedy Brown paced Cashton

with 13 points. In other girls games new Lisbon over LaFarge Youth Initiative 53 40 Westby

Center opens up with a home game against Verokwapp the Hornets scrimmage last Friday night

and I talked to coach Brian Pohl's about how it went. We got off the bus and we played

home on and there they're a big physical team and we really exerted ourselves and then

you we played the second one right away against Westby and they had just gotten off the bus

they were fresh and so that that really was you know it was a big factor in just how we perceived

how that went and so playing fatigue was a great lesson out of it and I think that you know we're

going to really benefit early on from from being able to play that. The Hornets as they start the

new season have some experience back from last year's team. We have really except for one senior

from last year everyone back all five starters you know we won one injury that that will also

affect us this year but you know so so much experience coming back and still you know some some

young experience. Jaden Shep's going to be the starting point guard again as a sophomore you know

probably two juniors two seniors you know similar to how we started things last year so still

not a really senior dominated team but definitely have a great group of seniors who've had a lot

of experience and and now that everyone has had that year together we're we're really looking to

have a nice step forward this season. Can I ask Coach Paul's about tonight's opponent Varroqua?

Well they they do have some some talent coming back you know three starters from last year

I think the the thing about Varroqua is that they don't have as much depth as coming back you know

you look at us we just talked about that you know we we've got all five starters coming back and

you know we've got two or three guys that that have experience coming off our bench that's not

going to be the case for Varroqua but at the top you know McDowell's a guard he he was injured

last year in our tournament game he hurt his knee but he's coming back as a senior he's going to

have a great year he's a really really good player they got a couple of of kids on the inside coming

back six four and then just a really strong a forward senior that that played a good role for them

last year so this is going to be a really good test I think it's probably too fairly evenly matched

teams and we played each other you know twice last year so I think we know each other pretty well

really interested after our good week of practice last week I'm excited to actually see what we

look like in this first game Richland center host Varroqua will have it for you on the radio

the major bowling league improved defense is getting a lot of the credit for the box recent surge

the team has won six times in its last seven games opponents are shooting just under 43 percent

in those games the improvement can be dated back to coach doc rivers decision to inject some hustle

and energy by leaning on the young players on the roster the box bench has been a positive as

well they'll be hosting Miami coming up this evening fresh off a 38 10 win over the 49ers the

Packers could be facing something similar to the 49ers when they'll be missing a couple of key

players possibly on Thursday night against the dolphins a concussion will keep Romeo dobs on

the sideline green base first injury report of the week reveals the quarterback Jair Alexander

and linebacker Edger and Cooper aren't taking part in practice there are questions about the

health of linebacker Isaiah McDuffie the dolphins have looked impressive as they get set for the

battle against green bay at Lambo field that is going to cap off the Thanksgiving feast of games

on Thursday evening last night Lamar Jackson threw two touchdown passes and ran for a score

Derek Henry rushed for 140 yards and Baltimore coach John Harbaugh improved to three in

all against his brother as the Ravens beat Jim Harbaugh's Los Angeles Chargers 30 to 23 it was the

first match up between the Harbaugh's since Super Bowl 47 in February of 2013 the manager of

football team prepares for the battle for Paul Bunyan's acts it's a Friday morning kickoff this

week in Camp Randall Stadium the Bancher's had defensive lapses and coach Luke fickle addressed

that when we've had our lapses that's where it's been that's why I said it's it might be hard to

pinpoint like it's not some schematic thing it's a little bit easier once you watch to say okay

guys we guys got to get back to the basics of what we do and making sure we're leveraging a football

we're tackling and playing more sound I mean in square so you know sounds like a simple thing but

that doesn't always make it the easiest thing to correct up and he says the players have to get

fired up for these border battles and rivalries in the big 10 we've got guys within this program we've

got guys that it's meant the world to them they've bled it whether it is Casey you know I mean there's

a lot of guys that you know are new here that if they don't understand shame on them because we

talked about in fall camp we talked about in spring football I'm not one of those that think that

because somebody comes in and gives him a raw raw speech that all of a sudden things are going to

change you know it means it held a lot more when it comes from Aaron wit or somebody within your

own program pregame time Friday morning at 9 a.m. on WRC EFM 107.7 and AM 1450 a three win week push

the badgers up for spots in the associated press basketball pole to number 15 Wisconsin's first

appearance in the pole was at 19 last week Marquette did even better jumping from number 15 to

number 10 after grabbing an upset win over Purdue I'm Philney with sports.
