I'm Phil Knee for WRC Osports, the Richland Center girls basketball team opens up the season
this evening with a home game against Highland. I asked first year head coach Jeremy Kui how the
team looked at the recent scrimmage. We're starting to get things to come together. You know,
we've had a whole five days to practice and introduce a whole new program, a whole new,
you know, offense and defense. So with Saturday being the first time, so it was kind of exciting
to see, you know, things starting to come together and really optimistic about, you know,
the things to come. I asked coach Kui about preparing for that first game. For the first game,
we're going to focus on what we're doing. You know, the things that we can control, we can't
control what Highland's going to do. I know they're a pretty solid program, you know, you get
in these small towns and they start playing ball as kids and they keep coming up. But, you know,
we can't ever control what the other team's going to do on the court. All we can do is just make
sure that we're doing the best and putting in the effort that we need to in order to get some
wins on the board. The Hornets are going to be road warriors, you open up at home, but then you
have quite a few games on the road, don't you Jeremy? Yes, we do. We have kind of the November,
December. We're going to have a little bit of time on the road and going to be exciting. We
get to go beginning of December and take the girls along with the boys team to fight serve
in play against Barabu. So that'll be an exciting road game for the program to get the girls to go
down and play the Bucks Arena. But the beauty of that, once we make it through the holidays,
we come back in January. We actually have a 10 game home stretch. I ask him who the leaders
will be this year for the Hornets. Probably our floor leaders are going to be Carly Meadon coming
back off from last year. She's going to be our senior on the court. Really looking to her to kind
of just kind of control. We still have a younger team, but she'll kind of take control on the court
for us. In addition, we also have Jasmine Haslerig and Libby Ruland as our other seniors.
We have two juniors, which would be nice. I have Injury Schultz and Riesland Johnson. And then
again, last year being a really young team, but we still have returning sophomores and LLV Weiss
and Kylie Burns and Hadi Boer. So we're pretty excited about the experience that we're bringing
back. And then we're also going to be mixing things up and bringing in a few of the younger players
to get some time on the court as well. I asked Federer and Highland Coach Josh Terrell of the Cardinals
had a scrimmage this year. We went down to Wazika on Saturday morning and we got the scrimmage against
Wazika and Moscow. So yeah, we got a nice scrimmage on Saturday. That's good. And how did the team
look? You know, it's that first chance to play someone other than yourself. So we look good at
some things and some things we definitely need to touch up. So typical scrimmage, you know,
you find out where your biggest weakness is out that you need to work on and always nice to see
some good things too. I asked Coach Terrell who the leaders will be for Highland this year. You know,
seniors coming back, I got two senior starters, Kate Terrell, my daughters, the senior this year
and Kayla Miller. Another senior in Izzy Washa's, their senior in Yezl and Mondragon. So two of those
two will be starting. I think start the season and I look for those two to step on, be leaders for me.
Addison Bedward is coming back as I played a lot last year. She'll be my point guard. So obviously,
I expect a lot from my point guard. So she's going to need to step up and carry, you know, put some
weight on her shoulder. So I think those are the biggest ones that we're looking to leave the team
this year. The six rivers conference of which Highland is a part will be a bit more unique this year.
Well, we kind of combined their six rivers east and their six rivers west together this year. So
on the west side, though, I mean, Belmont's going to be very good again this year. I think
every team's going to be better than last. Sheldon's brief got some new kids coming in that I think
you're going to get bursty time. Potosi Castle's got a new coach. I think she's got things going
in the red direction there. Rich is going to be better. Benton, I don't know for sure where they're
at as far as, you know, if they're looking at improving from last year, not I think they are.
Obviously, every team's looking at that, but as far as numbers, but I don't think they have a JV this
year. But then you get the east side and you get a tech arc out who's going to be just tougher nails
and Monticello Albany two teams. I want to stay last year that have a lot of returning players. So
Barnabas can be better than last they got. Of course, Jimmy Myers back there. And as you know,
they're going to be ready to go. So it's going to be a dog fight this year. So it should be

basketball team scored a win John Blackwell scored a career high 30 points as he in the Badgers
avoided an upset loss to UT Rio Grande Valley at home. Actually the Badgers trail by four and
half but Wisconsin won 87 84 Blackwell's two clutch free throws with two seconds left help seal the
deal. John Tanya at 19 points after lighting Arizona up with 41 on Friday night. The team holds
each other accountable says Badger max. I think we're all kind of pretty hard on each other in the
halftime locker room just once the players in there waiting for the coaches in a good way though
not kind of like getting after each other but just you know talking about we have to improve on
but there wasn't anything really specific that was said in that huddle you know I think we kind
of all knew the issue that had just kind of happened and how we had to fix it so the Badgers now
undefeated through five games take on central Florida Friday in the first round of the green
briar tip off tournament. Damien Lillard drove to the bucket with a game winning layup to give the
bucks a 101 100 win over the Houston Rockets last night. Lillard had missed several games with a
concussion. His heroics came after Milwaukee had blown a 14 point lead held in the third period.
Brooke Lopez led the scoring with 27 points and Lopez Lillard and Yana sounds at a cupo all
produced double doubles. Doc Rivers head coach of the bucks says there are many things to improve on.
I'm very happy about the win but the way we ended the last six minutes of the third quarter.
We had bad office possession at the bad office possession one pass shots turnovers.
That got them back in the game and those are the things we still got to take a step forward on
like that can't happen. Yana sounds at a cupo says the team continues to improve.
I think we're playing good basketball today a little bit to both stick a little bit but
on the end of the day you know in the third quarter we've got to do a better job executing
thinking of the ball in the fourth quarter still wasn't able to get the shots that we wanted
as much but the other way defensively we got stopped so was able to you know you get back to
the game even though they went up five was able to get back to the game and finish it at then.
Lewis Johnson Badger's football team could still make a ball game despite the current three game
losing streak coach Luke fickle's crew now comes in with games at Nebraska then at home against
Minnesota remaining both are tough games. Misona was the only BCS football program placed in a
bowl game last season despite putting up fewer than six wins. The Badgers have played in the
postseason for 22 years in a row. Well Badger head coach Luke fickle fired offensive coordinator
Phil Lungo over the weekend he was asked why yesterday the basic just what I told the team it's
not about play calls it's not about point scores not about touchdowns it you know it's moving
forward with leadership and that's you know to me what we have to do and why we're doing it right now
and coach fickle talked about who will call the plays now why does it matter right I mean the
offensive you run and those guys will do a lot of things collaboratively together and I don't think
it really is important as to who's calling it you know I guess it gives you the ability to point
a finger at somebody if that's the case but it's not one of those things I think's that important
sometimes I think it's overrated in some ways but it's it'll be a collaborative group and those
guys will have to work a lot together and in the Monday night football game Joe Mixon ran for
three touchdowns Derek Barnett returned to fumble 28 yards for his score and the Houston Texans beat
the Dallas Cowboys 34 to 10 the Texans stopped just the second two game losing streak in quarterback
