I'm Phil Ney with WRCO Sports, WIAA post season continues for high school volleyball teams.
Ithaca gets its first taste of the tournament when they host North Crawford tonight.
The Trojans defeated LaFarge earlier this week.
Also, Sena Ka will be hosting one-a-walk center.
DeSoto is at Royal, Wazika Stuban at Highland, other division five matchups.
Barnabelle, host Black Hawk, Monticello at Showsberg, our guy Lapeca Tonica and Belmont
will entertain Potosi.
Moving to the division four matchups from the area, New Lisbon will be a tri-county, Wisconsin
Heights at Mineral Point, Phenomore at Cashden, Kikapoo at Brookwood and Southwestern at Hillsboro
this evening.
Also action going on tonight, in division three, the matches include River Valley, moving
on to play Dodgeville, Black Hawk's and 11th seed with an upset win against sixth seed
Westby on Tuesday night.
Also Verokwa, advanced in the tournaments, they will play at Cuba City coming up this
evening.
Luther will be at Richland Center, will have the match on WRC already coming up and that
will be at seven o'clock tonight, pre-match time around 645.
Here is Coach Jamie Johnson, whose team is coming off an exciting week last week in which
they grabbed a co-conference championship.
Yeah, it was.
It's something that we said, you know, we wanted to put a number up on the wall and, you
know, the first one kind of with me in charge and, you know, it meant a lot to me.
You know, I've been part of a ton of those with Miss Talgliette and, you know, we've been
right there a few times but it's nice and the girls will always be able to come into that
jam and said, I was part of that, they will point to their kids and everybody else.
So it's a legacy that they got to have but it's just one step in the goals this year.
That's now behind us and Lucer doesn't care that we were, you know, a conference champ.
They took a second in their conference, so a quality team are, like I said, our half
sectional was stacked when you're looking at a River Valley at 11 C's and then they,
you know, come out and win.
You just know how deep our whole half sectional is from top to bottom, you know, because
Valley is a quality program and they got a big win and, you know, they're going to have
everybody's ready to play, you know, and Luther's a five-seed, we're a four-seed.
So we need to fans out tonight, I think that could be a pivotal point.
One thing we have, when our crowd shows up, they're loud, they can be intimidating, you
know, a lot of some schools don't have a big volleyball following and we're fortunate
that Richland Center does follow the volleyball team and we're very appreciative of that and
we need them to show up and force tonight.
The match coming up tonight on WRC Radio Luther at Richland Center.
The winner will play either Darlington or Aquinas.
Those teams meet tonight in lacrosse.
Also in division two, Edgewood host Wisconsin Dells, Plantville is at Lodi and West Salem
will host Readsburg, Portage will play at Mount Horubb as well, WIAA Tournament Soccer.
It's a rematch for Richland Center and River Valley.
The teams will play tonight at River Valley in the WIAA postseason.
The winner will play either Columbus or St. John's Northwestern Military Academy on Saturday.
Lodi will be hosting University Lake School and Wisconsinites Barnavelle will be at Central
Wisconsin Christian, Austin at Lake Country Lutheran, in division four.
Vision three soccer action Wisconsin Dells, host Dodgeville Middlewood Point in a match
that will kick off at four o'clock this afternoon.
Delivanderian will play at Mount Horubb.
Edgewood will take on Lake Mills, McFarlane, Entertainment Row, and West Salem Place in
Plantville against Plantville and Caster.
Tomorrow the WIAA cross country sectionals will be running and several locations across
the state.
A few will be on Saturday as well.
Richland Center Ithaca will be heading to Black River Falls.
I talked to coach Eric Minden as he talked about the team and its recent conference
meet.
We're in pretty well.
Our boys team placed second again that's two years in a row and they held off a challenge
from Plantville.
The gap did widen between Dodgeville Middlepoint and ourselves but I did think we ran pretty
well top to bottom.
The girls team as far back as I can get records for had their best performance at conference.
They finished third overall.
That was one of their goals this year was to kind of close that gap between Dodge Point
and Lancaster and they did a great job I thought they ran really well yet again.
Early in the week you're working out at Crosca Park trying to recreate some hills I guess
weren't you?
Yeah you know we have plenty to choose from in the area here but our sectional course is
on a golf course plenty of hills so we're trying to just get our feet comfortable right
on those again here so it's a nice place to get up and down really fast back and forth
there along the sidewalk there.
Looking at this week then you've ran once at Black River Falls so is it a hilly course?
It is.
It's one of the hilly courses we've run this season.
The conference race at Lancaster was probably worse which I think was maybe beneficial
for us that we're going to come off of a race like that and then Black River Falls seemed
so bad.
So it was very beneficial for us to get up there earlier this year.
It's quite a drive up there but we think it was worth it and we're going to get up there
and the kids have run it before so having that experience is invaluable as you get there
and either eyes are wide open with how big of a meat it is and what the stakes are.
So we think that experience gives us an edge.
Good luck to results in our other goes cross country team they'll be running tomorrow
evening.
Also the Riverdale cross country teams from here for the post season after a successful
season and an SWAL tournament a week ago here's head coach Chris Simonson ran very well
at our own invitational the week and half ago and then we hosted conference on last Thursday
and again I thought kids kids are in good shape.
We have no serious injuries other than you know the aches and pains that come along with
running for a few months but no I think the kids are mentally and physically ready to perform.
So let's talk about sectionals and how it will work where is it at?
We were at Prairie Dushin this year we haven't run Riverdale hasn't run at Prairie Dushin
I don't believe since the old SWAL when River Valley and Riverdale and Richland Center
were in the same conference with Prairie and Verokwa.
So it's been a number of decades and I hadn't been on the course other than to golf since
I ran there in 1978 I believe it was the last time I ran there.
So it's a nice course it's on the country club on the bridge port side of town.
There are hills there a lot of up and downs there are no flat places on which to run you're
either running uphill or running downhill not terribly steep in most places but it'll
be a nice challenge for a lot of the kids.
Good luck to the Riverdale runners and everybody involved in that division three meet at Prairie
Dushin coming up tomorrow night.
The Richland Sports Medicine team would like to congratulate the athletes of the month

Damien Lillard scored 30 last night Yana sounds at a Cumpo at a 25 and the Milwaukee box defeated
the Philadelphia 76ers 1 24 109 in the season opener for both teams Wednesday night Lillard
scored 15 points in the third quarter and finished with six three pointers nine rebounds
and five assists Yana shot eight for 11 from the floor and had a game high 14 rebounds
as Milwaukee got double figure scoring from six players Torin Prince and Bobby Portis
each scored 16 points coach Doc Rivers talked about Princess performance just great and you
know it's funny start out slow when he came back in because the first game you just never
know how guys are going to handle that when he came back in he was locked in.
And Damien Lillard credits the team's defense.
Yeah, I think especially when it came down to the paint, you know, Berk was a beast.
Yana's was a beast protecting the paint does what we've talked about our base defense
of just getting stopped and protecting the paint like we want to.
I thought, you know, our base did a great job with it.
Elsewhere last night in the Yana 115 Detroit 109 Cleveland 136 Toronto 106 Orlando over
Miami 116 97 Atlanta 120 Brooklyn 116 New Orleans 123 Chicago 1111 Charlotte 110 Houston

Clippers 113 Robert Salah will be consulting for the Packers in a fluid
role that involves providing the team's perspective on defense according to Packer
head coach Matt LaFour Salah was at practice Wednesday as the team years up for their Sunday
tilt with the Jacksonville Jaguars LaFour says Salah won't be helping out with the team's
defense and he has complete trust in defensive coordinator Jeff Halflay Salah spent four seasons
as the 49ers defensive coordinator in the last four seasons with the Jets as head coach
five times in the last six seasons Salah's defense has ranked in the top 10 for yards
allowed.
The venture football team prepares for a big game Saturday night.
Here's coach Luke fickle we've taken advantage of those opportunities and I think that's
a big area where we've been able to grow.
Games are always going to have adversity in them.
There's going to be shots on both sides are going to be plays made on both sides.
And I think in the first few weeks we had a tough time handling some of those things
in that way sometimes you don't take advantage of some of the opportunities that are out
there.
Tonight in college football Syracuse plays at number 19 Pittsburgh and the NFL game
as the Minnesota Vikings playing at the L.A. Rams.
I'm Phil Me with sports.
