I'm Phil Ney with sports, the Richland Center Horned Boy soccer team battled Bigfoot in

the first game of Saturday's Bigfoot soccer tournament against them.

The host team, one of the most prestigious tournaments in the state, the Hornets Battle

for two halves, scoreless.

Defense was led by Jack Stanley and Harrison Carpenter.

The offense had many opportunities and did well to control the ball.

In the tournament setting, games go immediately to a shootout.

The Hornets had goals from both Garrison Weiss, the team's leading scorer and Grayson

banker.

In a showing of class, the Hornets had their goalkeeper also shoot a critical penalty,

which he made.

In the end, the Hornets fell four-two in the shootout.

The next match was against Badger, Badger defeated the Hornets three-nothing.

Good midfield action was provided by Captain Carter Nelson.

The final match was against Lake Mills and the Hornets managed three goals from Damon

Garcia, Giovanni Suna, and the big dog, Garrison Weiss, added the third.

Also excellent passing and a good solid scoring opportunities.

The Hornets fell to Lake Mills, though, by a score of five-three.

The Hornets will travel to Lodi on Tuesday for a JV match at five and a varsity kickoff

at 6.45.

Thursday, they travel again to Plattville for the second conference match of the year.

A one-to-zero loss on a penalty kick to Dodgeville as the Hornets fired up and ready to sting

the Hillman on Thursday night in Plattville, JV at five, varsity at 6.45.

Also going on tonight, JV football Richland Center will be the site for Prairie

Dushin at Richland Center, 5.30 the time for that JV team to kick off.

Also, it will be football action against Dodgeville for River Valley.

That starts at 5.30 in Southwest Conference, JV play.

Eight player football, JV game tonight, DeSoto will play Waniwak Center Weston at Waniwak

Center High School this evening.

Lots of action going on this week in high school sports.

Riverdale returns to volleyball action with an SWAL conference match tomorrow night against

Boscabel.

Also Ithaca volleyball team will be in action at a quad tomorrow night.

They will be taking on Seneca and DeSoto at DeSoto High School.

The Riverdale cross country team competed in their second meet of the season on Saturday

at the Darlington Invitational.

The weather is beautiful and resulted in numerous fine performances.

Beginning with the girls, varsity race, Melanie Williamson plays 34th with a time of 2439.

Next was Megan Kruehl with an 81st place finish and a time of 2920 and Riley Leath 83rd

with a time of 2933.

The Riverdale varsity boys team ran next and finished in 5th place out of 15 full teams

by scoring 147 points, just 4 points behind host Darlington and 14 behind Iowa Grant.

Places were Lakota Brewer 12th with a time of 1842, Wyatt Shram 30th with a time of 1955,

Carson Knight 31st with a time just over 20.

Caleb Shalayline was with a 2005 time 35th.

Hunter Wilkinson 39th in 2008 and James Shram 65th with a time of 2140.

The middle school girls ran the first race then and had fine efforts by Lexi Baumkamp

who finished in 5th place with a time of 906.

Next was Hadley Wilkinson 43rd with a time of 1036, Rose Shram 45th with a time of 1039,

and Olivia Matthews 87th and her time was 1202.

The final runner of the day was Clark Jelson who finished the middle school boys race

in 9th place with a time of 841.

Next action for the Chieftain Harriers will be Tuesday at Boscow Bell's Ryan Zimple

Memorial Invitational with a varsity girls time beginning the race at 445.

The race will be held at the Zimple Farm that will be followed by the River Valley

Invitational coming up at Spring Green on Saturday, September 14th.

Brewer starter Freddie Peralta was pitching shed out ball when he was touched for a three-run

home run in the fifth inning yesterday.

That blast by Rocky's outfielders Sam Hilliard, saddled Peralta with a 4-1 loss and the

Rockies took the weekend series.

Milwaukee batters were held to eight runs and 17 hits in three games.

Brewer's lead over the Cubs and the National League Central standings shrinks to nine

games with 19 left in the regular season.

Here is manager Pat Murphy talking about Freddie Peralta.

It was in a jam, I think three of the, did he have any clean innings, I don't know.

Okay, but other than that, you know, he was wasn't his normal self.

He's been so great for us this year and then we made a move that we thought was right and

it was wrong.

And manager Murphy talked about losing the game.

Now we have a workout out for us, you know, this was a week where we could have made

up some ground and really done some things and now we've got some great opponents.

We usually play better against great opponents, but we've got some great opponents, the Giants

on the road, one of the biggest home field advantages and then we've got the hottest team

in baseball seven times and then we've got the Phillies best record in the league.

Milwaukee off tonight, the old take on the Giants in San Francisco on Tuesday.

San Francisco defeated San Diego yesterday seven six.

Since an addy three one over the Mets Miami 10 Philadelphia one Pittsburgh seven three

over Washington in the American league Tampa Bay two nothing over Baltimore.

The light socks seven Boston two Kansas City two nothing over Minnesota Texas seven

in the Angels four Detroit nine Oakland one inter league play the Cubs two one over the

Yankees Atlanta four Toronto three Seattle ten four over St. Louis.

The Badgers were able to win a close game.

They were heavily favored to win Saturday.

This time, the final score was 27 13 over the South Dakota Jack Rabbits.

Ches Maloo C scored two touchdowns and quarterback Tyler Van Dyke through a scoring pass.

Wisconsin grabbed a 14 nothing lead in the first period only to be close.

They did put up four plays of more than 22 yards in the game.

The biggest was CJ Williams 50 yard touchdown reception from Van Dyke.

The test gets tougher Saturday as the Badgers face number four.

The Monday night game has the Jets playing at San Francisco.

Online reports indicate UW Madison transfer Cameron Hunter has been cleared to play in the

upcoming season. Hunter sat out last year with a foot injury after arriving through the transfer

portal from central Arkansas. He adds to the options at point guard for head coach Greg guard.

In Arkansas, Hunter averaged almost 17 points, five rebounds and four assists per game.

Well, being named to several all star teams.

Four star true freshman Daniel Fry Tag may head the point rotation,

but Hunter figures to get plenty of playing time.
