I'm Phil Knee for WRCO Sports.
It's the debut in the conference for the Richland Center girls volleyball team.
Head coach Jamie Johnson relayed to us how it went last week at the Omni and Analaska.
A lot of people stepped up, played well, you know, five and two.
A lot of matches, you know, we knew the second day would be tough because we're playing the top
top teams.
We had opportunities and both those matches that we ended up losing.
We were right there against Analaska, who ended up playing in the championship of the 2014
bracket.
So it was a quality loss, I would say, there.
And then a strapper who's traditionally year in and year out, you know, they win their
conference almost all the time, close to 25 to 30 wins every year.
We beat them the first set and just kind of let one server kind of upset the apple car
a little bit.
The rest of it, I thought we played even or even a little better, just we had one difficulty
with one of their servers and we just didn't adjust well.
But overall, you know, come out of there.
My goal is always four and three.
If you can come out of that tournament, four and three, we're feeling pretty good about
ourselves.
Ideally, obviously, be nicer.
And if we did better, but five and two is a good showing, not necessarily our highest
showing, but still, you know, seventh place out of 24 teams has nothing to sneeze at.
Jamie talked about tonight's first round opponent in the Southwest Conference, Dodgeville.
They're the conference favorites.
You know, they're returning conference champions.
They have a returning MVP.
They've got like five starters back.
So not the ideal situation, but you know, in some ways, we're really looking as a way
to capitalize too.
It's early in the season and might be a chance to, you know, maybe come in and surprise
them a little bit on how we're doing and, you know, and what we're offering this year
and where we're playing.
So I guess I'd rather, some ways, almost playing first on the road than even at home or
down the road.
I think even though we're going to continue to get better, I'm.

The Richland Center soccer team will be in action in the conference for the first time
tonight when they traveled to Dodgeville to take on Dodgeville middle point, JV Action
at five.
Our city will kick at seven o'clock.
River Valley is on the road at Prairie to Sheen to open the conference season.
Prairie to Sheen River Ridge, Seneca takes on the River Valley Blackhawk Soccer team.
Sugar River is at Plattville, landcaster for a non-conference match and Reevesburg plays
at Mount Horror.
High school football, several games in the Madison area tonight, want to keep at Bonona Grove,
one Prairie East at Oregon, Milton at Sun Prairie West, and the forest at Fort Atkinson.
Games coming up on the third week of the high school football season include Richland
Center getting set to open its conference play at Prairie to Sheen.
They lost to a very good small school squad last week, but toasty Cassville, here's Coach
Andy Troxel talking about that.
Yeah, absolutely.
You know, in the state ranking scheme out today, and they are number one in the state
in division seven, you know, and so they're, they're solid across the board.
And that's a team that's going to run through the six rivers conferences as we've discussed
in the past.
I mean, that's a powerhouse of a conference anyway, so I don't see a whole lot of people
really putting up a fight against the toasty casserole until late in the, the postseason.
You know, I wouldn't be surprised if there are a team that we see at Camp Randall, to
be honest with you.
They're just well-coached, big kids, and they're just ferocious.
Coach Troxel talked about his team and how they kind of got their second win to the second
half last week.
I think the speed of the game kind of took our kids a little bit off guard, because when
we take a look at the grades, you know, when we grade kids out after every single game,
in the first quarter was rough for us, you know, but then our kids kind of settled in,
and they started to communicate.
They started to go back on how we've coached them, right, to execute scheme.
And they, they got better, you know, and so what we saw later on, it was just some silly
mistakes, you know, and things like that.
But for the most part, once they calm down, they got into their own rhythm, played their
style of football, we were able to capitalize offensively and defensively, you know, against
them.
You know, and I think you put up 20 against a team like that, right, you better hold
on to that ball, because there's not a lot of people that are going to put up points
like that against a team like the toasty casserole.
Coach Troxel, his team will be at Prairie Dushin to open conference play on Friday night.
River Valley during the third week of the season played its second game, and losing
by a touchdown to the Del's last week, I talked to co-ed coach Dan Maccovick about the
game.
The game was such a great game, the offenses were clicking on all cylinders for both teams.
The Del's, their game plan was to get to the edge.
They did a great job of getting to the edge.
We tried to make some adjustments, which we did.
We had some success stopping them.
We gave our offense in some positions there, opportunities to score, and they did a great
job.
I was really thrilled with the way that they came out and executed.
And then at the end, when we needed a big stop, we were able to get it, and the offense
was trying to put it in the end, the end zone at the very end to win the game, and we just
came up short.
River Valley will be at Dodgeville on Friday night.

And the other good bulldogs were doing battle last week.
They shut out.
Well, Zika, Seneca, Stuban, and it was a 26-nothing win.
Go ahead coach David Claim talked about the shut out.
I thought we did a really good job.
We were able to hold a shut out, which was really awesome against a really good team.
And I just thought that like the first half, we were kind of figuring stuff out.
And then second half, we really kind of locked in, and really we were able to accomplish
what we wanted to, and kind of played mistake free football, and that was kind of the whole
goal.
It took us a little bit to warm up, but overall, we played a nice complete game, and we're
able to keep that shut out.
The bulldogs will travel to Hillsboro, beginning scenic gloves conference action on Friday
night.
This year's Tuesday men's golf league championship was decided last night at Quail Run when
the last match was completed.
Team nine defeat a team five by a point total of 56 to 40.
Congratulations to the members of team nine, Jared McDonald, Steve Sachina, Steve Davis,
and Dennis McHugh, as the Quail Run Golf League season comes to an end.
Also in bowling scores from action last night, it was the merchant's league.
While the series high for the teams belonged to Gerner Farms, 2852, Gogger salvage, 2822,
Richland Locker Company, a 2773, Gerner Farms had a 989, Gogger salvage, a 982, Richland
Locker Company, a 977.
Top series Jason Gerner, a 689, Mike Carpenter, a 664, Isaac Davidson, a 653, Isaac
Davidson had a 299 game, Kevin Guenthi, 249, Hank McNeymar, a 238 in the merchant's
bowling league.
An offense that was 0 for 16 handicap the brewers as they lost an extra innings for the
second straight time Wednesday night.
The Cardinals won the series with a 3-2 decision in 10 innings.
The middle of the batting world, the third and cleanup hitters went 0 for 22 in the series.
A home run by Eric Haas had tied the score, but there was no more offense for Milwaukee
last night.

We have men like we were, you know, and that's kind of what we rely on, and I felt like
the extra innings they kind of come in bunches, and you know, we've had three in the past,
you know, less than a week, so, you know, it's looking much just baseball, yes, but we'll
get back to it.
Brewer manager Pat Murphy talked about their struggles on offense.
Stuff that's going on with us right now is like, get a weather.
We're bound to hit a spot like this, but here's the thing we're competing in every game.
It's not like we're rolling the balls out and not playing.
We came back in this game like we had to.
We've got a great spirit.
We're very, very young beat up and we had opportunity.
I mean, we got a man on third and one of the best hitters in the league up and didn't
get it done.
