Sports time is sponsored by Napa Auto and Truck Parts of Richland Center and Boscabel.
Local people serving you with the good stuff and by the LDRCO Sports Boosters.
Coming up a look at some local and area scores and notes and the brewers with a big win
yesterday highlights coming up.
I'm Phil Neve with WRCO Sports.
We look at local baseball.
First of all, here is Michael Hernan.
Our whole talent baseball action happens tonight in the night league.
Here's the aerial action in the night league starting in the northwest section.
Dodgeville will be at Maiselmene.
Sock Prairie will travel to Arena and Breedsburg will travel to Wisconsin.
The other night league action tonight, Black Earth will be at Middleton and Ridgeway will
be at Footville for WRCO Sports.
I'm Michael Hernan.
Thanks Michael and some changes to the schedule as well.
Casanovia is slated to play at Plane tomorrow night.
It's a double header.
The first game is a nine inning Sunday league game and the second game will be a seven
inning affair and Muscaday's game that was to be a home game with Hollandale on Sunday
has been moved to Hollandale.
They'll play two seven inning games, the Muscaday village and everybody working on getting
ready for the upcoming track resurfacing for Riverdale school.
So the park will be off limits starting Friday for baseball.
Also speaking of baseball, the Verrocool Legion teams scored a win over Baraboo last night,
10 nothing.
All star basketball games will be played today for the boys across the state.
The Wisconsin Basketball Coach's Association event will be held today, getting underway
at nine with a division five game and then around 10, 15.
There will be a dedication of the Jerry Petigue statue.
The former retired coach will be on hand to be there for the dedication of a statue
in his likeness.
D4, all star game will get underway around 10, 30, D3 at 12, 40, division two at 2, 30
and four o'clock for the division one game tickets cost $10 for adults and students tan
and above $5 for kids four to nine years old and it will be free for kids three and under.
The SWAL conference golf teams have been recognized.
Mineral Point was the conference champion on the year.
They were led with the first team members Alex Ross, Reed Ackerman, Eli Lindsay and
Drew Ashelman, Ben Till of Cubicity Benton Southwestern also makes the first team.
Second team members, our Galpecatanica's Alex Ritten from Phenomore Evan Larson, also Ethan
DeMent and Isaac Weigman from Cubicity Benton Southwestern and Evan Docknell from
our Galpecatanica.
The second team members also include Olen Johnson of Darlington, Nick Poe, Barnaveld,
Braylon Felencer of Cubicity Benton Southwestern, Coleman Schlimgen of our Galpecatanica and
Luke Novinsky from Barnaveld.
On the state of Wisconsin scene, the brewers walked off with a six five win against the
Rangers.
Yesterday, there were many highlights on the Brewer radio network.
Evoldy, first pitch and Bowers sends one out to center, racing back his hill at the
track.
Wolf, Grand Slam.
Jake Bowers with his seventh home run of the season, his second slam of the season and
the brewers lead it four to one.
Brewers also enjoyed a rarity from Jackson Cheerio.
He is now 20 years old and he has been one of baseball's top prospects for a couple
of years and he made a great diving catch and also had a little thrilling run of the
bases.
Soft liner into center and diving and not making the catches hill.
It gets behind him and Jackson's off to the races.
He's around second.
He is sprinting around third.
Here comes the throw to the plate, Cheerio's in their safe lane.
Jackson Cheerio, a trip around the bases and we are tied at five.
And after an injury, it was Andrew, Monasterio stepping up to be the hero at the end.
The one one pitch, lined into the left center field, that's going to get down to the gap
roll all the way to the wall.
Andrew Monasterio flips that helmet high in the air as Adamus scores from third and the
brewers walk off the Rangers and sweep them here this afternoon at American Family Field.
Your final, brewers six and the Rangers five and ten.
Jared Gaining picked up his seventh win in relief.
Milwaukee is off tonight and Callen Rae starts Friday's weekend series opener at home
against the Chicago Cubs.
Monasterio says he has to be ready for whatever they need him for.
If you saw the Andrews game, go hit him, hey, pinch run.
I'm like in five seconds.
I was in the first base and I am ready to stall a base.
So I have to be ready in a moment.
So it's part of my game this year.
So I'm thankful for that.
I'm ready for that.
Dallas Keikle pitched his first game as a brewer.
He was asked about getting tired during the game.
I don't use that as an excuse by any means.
It is a real thing, travel wise, the unknown, but at the same time I did feel I felt pretty
good out there.
I think the way I felt didn't produce the outcome.
So that's a little frustrating, but at the same time, I mean, there was plenty of stuff
that I was very happy with.
Elsewhere in baseball Philadelphia 6 2 over Detroit, Kansas City 5 Miami 1 Houston 7 1 over
Colorado.
The Dodgers beat the White Sox for nothing.
Metz 12 Yankees 2, Minnesota 8 3 over Arizona.
In the American League, Toronto had Boston postponed Seattle 5 2 over Tampa Bay.
The Angels 5, the Oakland A's 2 and Baltimore 4 2 over Cleveland.
In the National League, Pittsburgh 6, Cincinnati 1, Atlanta beat St. Louis 6 2, the Cardinals
1 the nightcap 4 1, San Diego 8 5 over Washington and San Francisco top the Cubs, Viaskore 4 3.
He may need to eat a few dozen pancakes to put on some weight, but guard AJ Johnson is
now in the NBA.
Johnson was available in the box chose at number 23 in Thursday's 2024 NBA draft.
The 6 foot 4 front court player has a wide wing span, but weighs only 167 pounds.
He played last season in Australia.
He was a four star prospect when he came out of high school in Southern California.
He committed a play for the University of Texas, but decided to play last season for the
next star's program in the NBA.
His coaches tout his work ethic and his athleticism and GM John Horst talked about the
buckstrap.
Horst has first mentality, but with a really high level scoring game, and so I think he also
fits within that cruise skill set wise.
I think those guys all have different skill sets that they can bring to our table, and
he brings something that maybe Andre Jackson is the only other one that really brings
from a speed component.
And Horst says that the player seemed to get better last year while playing in Australia.
Although he didn't play a lot last year in a really competitive NBA, he grew a lot, and
you could see the improvements as you studied his film and you watched him, then getting
an opportunity to spend time with the draft combine process and the draft workout process.
So we're really excited about AJ when he plays and how quickly he develops and how quickly
he earns his opportunities to be determined.
But this is a player with great athleticism, speed, talent, and love his mentality.
And an Instagram posting by former Packers wide receiver Randall Cobb's wife says they
are lucky to be alive after a house fire.
Ada Cobb says family members got out with no possessions, but the clothes they were wearing,
the fire was started by the charger connected to the family's Tesla in the garage.
Cobb is still a free agent going into the 2024 NFL season.
He was one of Green Bay's most popular players.
I'm Phil Ne with a look at sports.
