Emboys High School Basketball Richel & Center hosted Pletville yesterday, with more, here's
Phil Newell.
The Pletville Hillman, with a win over Richel & Center, 8448 in area boys basketball,
improved to 7-0 with their victory and 14-3 overall.
For the Hornets, it was a much improved performance from the last time that they played Pletville
earlier in the year.
They trailed 40-20-1 and a half time and kept it competitive and close, but Pletville
pulls away in the second half for the victory.
Pletville was led by their 6-9 big man, Zach McLean, with 17 points.
Also in double figures, 12 points for Lucas Ludlund and Simon Babel and 11 points for
Daven Edge.
Richel & Center is led by Wes Bosworth.
He has 16 points, 13 a piece for Jaden Shep and Liam Fingerson, 3 points each for Brady
Dush and Tyler Woodman.
Hornets made 4-3s, Jaden Shep had 3 of those and they were 9-17 from the free throw line.
Pletville made 9-3s and went 11-4-22 from the charity stride.
Next up for Pletville on Monday night, they will be playing Cuba City and then they will
take on Prairie Dushin next Thursday.
For the Richel & Center Hornets, their next action will be at Wasika Stubin coming up
on Tuesday night, they'll follow that with a game at River Valley on Thursday night.
JV Action Pletville is a winner, 71-28 over Richel & Center.
Hornets fall to 3 and 17-1-6 in the conference with the loss, Pletville gets the win, approving
to 7-0 in the Southwest Wisconsin Conference, the final 84-48 over Richel & Center and area
boys basketball.

As the sports calendar turns to February, it's that time of year again,
wrestling on the radio.
With a preview of today's matchups, here's WRCOs, Bill Twining.
The month of February debuts with Conference Wrestling Saturday
today as league wrestling tournaments are held across the state of Wisconsin.
A preview of the state tournament trail that begins next weekend with WIAA wrestling
regionals. WRCOs sports will be busy today, providing you with live coverage of two
large, combined Conference Wrestling tournaments.
The annual All-SWAAL, SWC Conference Clash at Mineral Point,
and the combined Scenic Ridge Conference event at Kikapu High School in Viola.
At Kikapu, it'll be the 17th annual convergence of the
Ridge and Valley and Scenic Bluffs Conference Wrestling teams,
and event one convincingly the past two seasons by Ithaca Weston.
A year ago, Royal Waniwak Center was a comfortable runner-up to Ithaca Weston,
while rounding out the top five teams worried to Soto,
Peccatanaca Argyle, and Cashton.
Those teams all return and are joined by Brookwood, Hillsboro,
New Lisbon, North Crawford, Seneca, River Ridge,
and the host predators of Kikapu Laffarge Youth Initiative.
There are five returning individual champions at the Scenic Ridge Conference tournament today,
including a trio of two-time winners,
sophomore Aiden Grunenfelder of Peccatanaca Argyle,
and senior teammates Gunnar Wolpad and Colin McKittrick of Royal Waniwak Center.
The other returning champs are sophomore Lucas Orlov of Pec Argyle,
and senior Caleb Berkram of Ithaca Weston.
Other individuals to watch at the Scenic Ridge are two-time conference runner-up Jacob Orlov
of Pecatanaca Argyle and state qualifier Reed Sawyer of New Lisbon.
Logan Anderson of Ithaca Weston,
Jaren Grimsle of North Crawford, Seneca, and Ryan McCoy of Hillsboro
are among the runners-up returning who are striving for conference titles this time around.
While among the wrestlers who won third place medals a year ago and look for a move up in 2024,
are the following Logan Gaiski of Hillsboro,
Drew Powell and Alex Guzman of Brookwood,
a trio from Ithaca Weston, Ashton Bennett, Nolan Waldner, and McNeath,
and another three from a host Kikapulafar Youth Initiative, Ben Culver,
Colton Clark, and Ethan Bass.
Today's wrestling at Kikapu High School looks to begin as early as
9.30 this morning. Meanwhile at Mineral Point High School,
they're shooting for a start time of 10 o'clock as 13 wrestling teams from the SWAL and the SWC
compete in the annual clash, one the past two years by Phenomore.
The Golden Eagles wear the favorites tag again this year led by a trio of returning
individual champs, three more returning runners-up, and no less than seven returning state qualifiers.
At last year's clash, Prairie DeShane waged a battle for the top spot and finished less than
eight points from the championship. I have a Grand Highland Mineral Point and Riverdale completed
the top five. Those teams will be joined today by Richland Center, River Valley,
Bosca Belwazika Stuban, Dodgeville, Darlington Blackhawk, Landcaster, Belmont Plantville,
and Cubicity Benton, Southwestern. Junior Rowan Carey of Mineral Point is the lone two-time
conference champion at the clash today, but the field is rife with reigning and former titleist,
including Teague Perkins of Richland Center, Cade Rule of Mineral Point,
sophomore's Hunter Stevens and Jackson Bussey of Iowa Grant Highland, Prairie DeShane's Jeremiah
Avery and Blake Theory, Dodgeville's trio of state champions, Hawkins Peterson, Charlie
Might and Reed Spirley, Maddox Cobal of Darlington Blackhawk, and a quartet from Phenomore,
Ian Crap, Wyatt Onan, Wyatt Miles, and former titleist Evan Gratz. Other individuals to keep an
eye on at the clash today include conference runners-up Brody Mease and Caden Renyship Riverdale,
returning place winners Ethan Hady and Cole Brennager of Richland Center,
Noah Ratke and Wyatt Knockriner of River Valley, Nathan Johnston of Dodgeville,
Tyler Miller of Basketball, Wazika Stuban, Mack Busser and Matt Orrit of Mineral Point,
and Iowa Grant Highlands, Elliott Beba, Tyson Imhoff, and Emerson Moan.
State runner-up Ethan Erid of Darlington Blackhawk and current state champion,
Tristan Stelt of Phenomore will also highlight the field today at the all SWAL SWC conference

Kansas City Chiefs-Tied End Travis Kelsey says he is ready for the Super Bowl circus to begin
when his team arrives in Las Vegas to play the San Francisco 49ers a week from tomorrow.
Kelsey spoke on Friday about what it will be like there,
particularly given how visible his profile has become this past year.
He's constantly in advertisements and on television. Oh, and the fact that he's dating
Popstar Taylor Swift has made him even more newsworthy. Said Kelsey, at this point, I just love it.
It's an exciting time. Scotty Schaeffler couldn't miss from the fairway
and he made his share of pots at Pebble Beach. The result was a 64 that gives him a share of the lead
with Ludwig Aberg and Thomas Dirtree going into a most unpredictable weekend at Pebble Beach.
They were one shot ahead of Patrick Cantley with Justin Thomas, another shot behind.
The weather cooperated again and blessed the Monterey Peninsula with mostly sunshine.
But a storm system was headed that way. The fiercest of the weather was forecast on Sunday.
The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am is only an 80-man field.
NHL players are returning to the Olympics for the first time in more than a decade.
The playing calls for the NHL to allow its players to participate in the 2026 games in Milan
and also again in 2030. Commissioner Gary Bettman and the players' union executive director
Marty Walsh announced the deal. NHL players have not been at the Olympics since 2014 and so cheap.
The last two have been held in Asia and the pandemic was a factor in scuttling that 2022 plans
for Beijing. The international calendar also includes a four-nation tournament involving the US,
Canada, Sweden and Finland next year.
Conor McDavid can add another individual honor to his resume after winning the NHL All-Star
Skills Competition. McDavid also takes home a million dollar prize.
The three-time MVP showed why he's widely considered the best hockey player in the world.
He finished first in the fastest skater and stick handling events.
He went four-for-four to win the accuracy shooting.
The Edmonton Oilers captain is credited with playing a role in reviving the skills competition
after it was confusing and disjointed a year ago.
The Los Angeles Kings have fired head coach Todd McLellan and named Jim Hillard the interim
coach for the rest of the season. Los Angeles went into the All-Star break with the first
wildcard spot in the Western Conference but it's only four points ahead from falling out of a playoff
spot. Now the Kings had a 27 and four start to the season with 44 points tied for the most
in team history after 31 games. Since December 28th they are three eight and six.
The three wins are tied for the fewest in the league over that span.
College basketball road games have always been difficult to win.
The home team players are in a comfortable place. They have their fans cheering wildly on their
side and they have the incentive of not wanting to lose on their home court.
Winning on the road has become more difficult this season through Thursday's games.
AP top 25 teams had a winning percentage of just 55% against unranked road opponents
that according to sports radar. That's the lowest since the 2009-2010 season.
Top 10 teams have had the worst of it on the road going 25 and 29 against unranked road opponents.
Northwestern coach Chris Collins has been handed a $5,000 fine and public reprimand from the
Big Ten for violating the league's sportsmanship policy at the end of the wildcance overtime loss
to number two Purdue. Collins was ejected with 1.7 seconds remaining and a 105-96 Purdue victory
Wednesday night. The ejection came after he walked onto the court and yelled at an official
with the ball still in play. A Northwestern player restrained Collins and led him to the bench.
Purdue had a 46-8 edge over Northwestern in free throw attempts that evening.
Michigan has promoted Kirk Campbell to offensive coordinator and Grant Newsome to offensive
line coach on a new staff headed by Sherone Moore following Jim Harbaugh's departure for the
NFL. Campbell had worked as a quarterbacks coach and Newsome had coached tight ends during Michigan's
2023 national championship season. The school also promoted JB Brown to special teams coordinator
from analyst. The moves come a week after Moore was promoted from offensive coordinator to head
coach. Moore took over after Jim Harbaugh received a five-year deal to lead the NFL's Los Angeles
