There was plenty of wrestling action going on last night in Richland Center, here's
Bill Twining with more.
A good crowd was on hand Tuesday night at the Richland Center high school field house,
as four area wrestling teams squared off in a quadrangular.
It was senior night and parents night for the host Hornets, who hosted Ithaca Weston,
Riverdale, and Hillsboro on a night that squad used to fine tune for the upcoming
tournament month of February.
Five senior wrestlers were honored by Richland Center first-year coach Silas Coleman,
Teague Perkins, Cole Breninger, Emma Haiti, Eli Muckler, and Michael Kevazini.
On the mat, Riverdale emerged as a night's overall winner and improved to 10-3 in dual
meets for the season.
The Jeepdins defeated Ithaca Weston 48-22, Hillsboro 78-6, and Richland Center 52-30,
as their fine season at her coach, Jeff Kempbell, continued.
Softmore's Brody Mease and Grant Matthews led to way with three pins apiece, while Jordan
Bobkamp, Lakota Brewer, Riley Wannick, and Kaden Renish contributed two wins each.
The Jeepdins have one dual meet remaining before the tournament trail begins, as they
will host Darlington Blackhawk this Friday evening.
Ithaca Weston won two of three matches at the Richland Center quad on Tuesday evening,
and improved to 10-4 on the season.
Ithaca Weston opened with that 48-22 loss to Riverdale before logging wins over Richland
Center 51-30, and Hillsboro 57-9.
Junior Nolan Waldner and Softmore Ethan Stole led the way with three mat wins apiece.
Meanwhile, Ashton Bennett, Logan Anderson, and Mack Nief, each posted two wins on the
evening.
Next for coaches Troy Clary and Marcus McCauley are the Ridge and Valley Conference
duels this Thursday evening.
Host Richland Center went one and two in dual meets on Tuesday night, improving to six
and four for the season.
The Hornets opened with a 63-18 win over Hillsboro before falling to Ithaca Weston 51-30,
and then to Riverdale 52-30.
The seniors led the way on senior night as Teague Perkins and Emma Haiti each had two
pins and three total victories, while Cole Breninger and Eli Muckler logged falls in
their only matches.
The Hornets now rest until the annual all SWAL SWC conference clash, the first Saturday
in February, and Hillsboro rounded out the Richland Center quad on Tuesday, dropping
all three duels despite quality efforts from upper weights Irvin Novachek and Ryan McCauik.
The Tigers host new Lisbon in their season finale this Thursday evening.
Repeating Riverdale came out on top of the perfect three-and-oh evening Tuesday night
at the Richland Center wrestling quad-rangular, Ithaca Weston took second place with a two-and-one
mark.
Richland Center was one-and-two in Hillsboro, zero-and-three for WRC Osports and Phil Ne.

It was West Salem 72, Verolkwa 57, Luther over Westby 61-54.
Hillsboro beat New Lisbon 67-52, North Crawford over Kikapu 64-49, Royal 59, Cashton 57.
Waterloo was a winner against Wisconsin Heights 73-38.
Brookwood 49-111 center 39 and Aquinas beat Toma 69-47.
In Girls Basketball, it was Ithaca getting the win against New Lisbon 53-35 and Phenomore
beat Riverdale 56-54.
Highland 50 Hillsboro 36, Kikapu 68-29 over Seneca, Merrill's Mendoro 51-23 over Verolkwa.
North Crawford 64 LaFarge Youth Initiative 49.
It was Stoughton 72, Readsburg 69, Wisconsin Dells beat Austin 71-35 and Mount Horob over
Berobu 65-24, Aquinas beat Toma 69-47.
Church League volleyball last night, it was Richland Baptist Temple I topping Bethel Lutheran,
two games to one and hit in Valley Community I down to Voka Bible Church I, two games
to none.
A Voka Bible Church III had a buy.
In the B division, basketball assembly of God handed Biel Loesley in their first loss
of the season, two games to none.
The mission topped Richland Baptist Temple III, two games to none.
A Voka Bible Church II downed Hidden Valley Community II, three games to none.
Church of the Nazarene II blanked free Methodist, three games to none.
Richland Baptist Temple IV defeated Grace Community II, two games to one and Richland
Baptist Temple II, downed Church of the Nazarene I, three games to none.
Grace Community I had a buy.
Action continues on Tuesday night, January 30th at the Community Center and the Richland
Center Primary School.
Games postponed from January 9th will be made up Tuesday night, February 6th.

Richland Center adult league basketball opened up on Sunday night.
The games included the herd, 53 to 40 over 608.
The herd was led by Josh Johnson's 19, including five three pointers.
Eugene Ewing had 15, the 608 led by Cody Muller with eight points, Hunter Swingle with
seven.
In the 630 games, subway of Richland Center, 43 to 34 over the termites, Aaron Wallace
had 12 points, Nick Weederholt 10, the termites led by Ira Kaupernall with 23, including
three three pointers.
In the 730 game, Stanley Construction with 74, 54, the win, it was Stanley's led by Ashley
Thayer with 20, Noah Johnson with 15, for WCCU, Devon Schmitz had 15 points, and Connor
Ellenson 13, including three three pointers.
Into the state scene, where the Bucks with a big announcement yesterday, 43 games into
the NBA season.
The Bucks are looking for another head coach, Adrian Griffin was fired Tuesday, despite
a 30 and 13 start to the season.
No reason for the move was given.
One out of market report suggests Griffin had lost the team's veterans, like Yana
sounds at a cupo and Damien Lillard, what was clear was that Milwaukee's defensive results
weren't anything close to its recent history in league games.
Assistant Joe Prunty is serving as interim head coach, rumors are continuing to swirl,
the Bucks are talking to legendary player and coach Doc Rivers.
A pair of clutch free throws by forward Tyler Wall, clinch Wisconsin's narrow 61-59 victory
at Minnesota last night.
So a big win for the Badgers, as they dug deep 16 from Wall and AJ Store had 15 to go
with a dozen rebounds.
It was the seventh straight time UW men's team won a border battle game against its rival.
Minnesota was hurt by a five for 13 performance at the free throw line.
Wisconsin's record improves to 15 and four overall, seven and one in conference play.
For head coach Greg Gard, it was his 100th career head coaching win.
You know, I've had really good players and really good teams.
That's how you get to this and a phenomenal staff.
You don't do it alone.
My name goes with the number, but it's because I've had really good players along the way.
That result in having good teams and obviously I got great people around me.
He talked a little bit more about last night and the win.
You know, you have to be able to win games when maybe you're not at your best.
I think as you go through a season, just because the season's too long.
So find different ways to win and say good teams always find when they're not quite
clicking or in sync at their best on either end of the floor, they find a way to get it done.
And that just tells you the fortitude and grit that this group has internally.
The Badgers, seven and one in conference play are set to host Michigan State on Friday night.
Last night's second rated Purdue is a winner 99 67 over Michigan.
Elsewhere in baseball news, retired outfield.
The Ryan Braun will be honored by the Milwaukee Brewers.
Braun will become the newest member of the team's walk of fame.
He is the all time home run leader for the franchise with 352 long walls over a 14 year career.
Braun was the 2007 nationally rookie of the year and the 2011 MVP.
His name was already on the wall of honor and he will be recognized for his contributions
to the Brewers at a ceremony during the 2024 season.
The Brewers evidently made a move.
They've agreed to a $34 million two year contract filling the team's opening at first base.
A person familiar with the move confirmed it to the associated press.
It is pending a physical Milwaukee one, the nationally central last year with a 92 and 70 record
before getting eliminated by Arizona in the wildcard series.
The addition of Hoskins gives the Brewers another power bat for the middle of their lineup.
They had Rowdy Teles and Carlos Santana at first base in 23 but they let go of Teles after the season
and he signed with Pittsburgh in December. Santana remains of free agent.
Some post packer cuts as they get ready for the bulk of the off season.
There are a few that are looking at free agency of the possibility of resigning with the packers
or another team among them. John Runyon would like to keep playing in a long career.
That's kind of who a model myself after a person who's just going to be out there every game.
It doesn't really matter the injuries or anything else that's lingering that's going on.
I'm going to be out there for my teammates.
I don't care if we're two in five or five in two.
I'm going to be out there battling and I think I proved that this year.
When healthy wide receiver Christian Watson is one of the packers most potent offensive weapons.
When healthy, he scored 14 touchdowns in 23 career NFL games.
The problem is the time he has been sidelined.
Watson and cornerback Eric Stokes will be assessed for problems with hamstring injuries
at the University of Wisconsin Madison Badgers athletic performance director.
Brian Heidershite is among a group of specialist nation wide who have received over four million
dollars in funding from the NFL to study those injuries.
The league says hamstring problems account for three fourths of all missed games.
Christian Watson feels the team had more games in the miss year and they're looking forward to the future.
I mean, there's a lot of disappointment and frustration with how things ended.
I think the kind of roller coaster year that we had we were definitely on the high.
You know, these past couple weeks and we thought we really had a chance to get this one.
So obviously, you know, ended like that is tough for us.
But I mean, just to look back and, you know, appreciate, you know, where we were at and where we are now.
I think we have a lot to be thankful for for sure.
