In breaking news today, former Wisconsin judge Hannah Dugan is spared from prison for helping an immigrant evade federal agents.
A federal judge issued a $5,000 fine in court today, but no prison sentence.
Dugan was convicted of felony obstruction last December for ushering a Mexican defendant out of her courtroom to evade ICE agents.
The judge cited Duggan's otherwise law-abiding record in issuing the sentence, calling Duggan a good person who made a bad decision in the moment.
Prosecutors said after the sentencing they would still appeal Duggan's conviction.
Wisconsin state patrol officers are reminding drivers to keep right if you're going slower.
Civic media's Maddie Schaefer has more on the law of the month.
The Wisconsin State Patrol's law of the month for July reminds drivers that slower traffic should keep right on interstates and other multi-lane highways.
According to a press release, officials say the reminder is meant to help keep traffic moving safely and efficiently while reducing the risk of tailgating and rear-end crashes.
Under Wisconsin law, drivers traveling slower than the normal speed of traffic should use the right lane when multiple lanes are traveling in the same direction, except when passing another vehicle, preparing
for a left turn or making an authorized U-turn.
Wisconsin State Patrol Superintendent Tim Carnahan says lingering in the left lane can lead to crashes and dangerous situations on the road.
The state patrol also reminds drivers to follow Wisconsin's moveover law by changing lanes or slowing down for emergency vehicles, highway workers, and certain disabled vehicles with flashing lights along the roadside.

A shake-up in Wisconsin's governor race as Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley drops out and backs Lieutenant Governor Sarah Rodriguez.
Crowley says he's stepping aside after struggling to build enough support, even though he led in fundraise at early on.
His endorsement of Rodriguez could shift the race, especially among Milwaukee voters.
Some expected him to support fellow Milwaukee native Mandela Barnes, who's also running.
The field now has five candidates, with polling showing a tight and competitive contest.

Farmers in Wisconsin could soon have more control over fixing their own equipment after a major settlement with John Deere.
State and federal officials say the agreement will require Deere to share repair tools and software with farmers and independent shops, not just dealerships.
The lawsuit claimed Deer's limits led to higher costs and delays during critical times.
Attorney General Josh Call says this gives farmers more options when equipment breaks down.
The deal will be monitored for the next 10 years.
A mechanical failure at the Beloit Dam is behind decreasing water levels in the Rock River.
The Rock County Sheriff's Office says the issue caused the dam's gates to open unexpectedly on Saturday, bringing down water levels between the Beloit Dam and the Centerway Dam in Jamesville.
The gates have since been
enclosed but there's no time frame for when water levels will return to normal.
Voters are still allowed on the river and are asked to use caution in case they venture on the water.
A lawsuit over credit card debt involving Wisconsin gubernatorial candidate Francesca Hong has now been resolved.
Court records show the case from Capital One was dismissed after she paid about $30,000.
Her campaign says she covered the debt with help from family and no campaign money was used.
Hong says the issue reflects the financial struggles many people face and should not be seen as a moral failing.
She continues to work multiple jobs while serving in the state assembly.
Vice President JD Vance is talking about fraud in a campaign-style speech in Wisconsin.
Vance spoke in Milwaukee yesterday touting the Trump administration's crackdown on health care fraud and also infused plenty of politics.
The Democrats have thrown their lot in with the people who want to abolish the police, who want to open the border and want to give your money to fraudsters instead of moms who need it.
Vance has made similar appearances across the country, and his stop at the Wisconsin Air National Guard facility was very pointed at Democrats.
He accused Democrats of supporting fraud, including Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers, and pumped up the Trump-endorsed Republican running for governor, Congressman Tom Tiffany.
Wisconsin holds its primaries on August 11th.
Two people are facing charges after nearly 250 grams of meth were seized during a traffic stop in Antigo.
Antigo Police Department stopped a car for a motor vehicle violation on June 30th and deployed a canine for an open-air sniff of the vehicle.
Officers found a plastic bag that contained 234 grams of meth along with more than 33 grams of fentanyl.
Two men were taken into custody as a result of the investigation.
A jury trial is scheduled for March 2027 for the father of an abundant life Christian school shooter.
Prosecutors alleged 44-year-old Jeffrey Ruppner gave a dangerous weapon to a person under 18, resulting in deaths and contributed to the delinquency of a minor.
The charges stem from the 2024 school shooting that killed a student and a teacher before Ruppner's teenage daughter took her own life.
Ruppner's motion to dismiss the case was denied in May, and a status conference is set for late September.
Jury selection is set to
begin March 8th, with the trial beginning the following day and lasting nine days.
The La Crosse Police Department is implementing drone-deployed personal flotation devices.
The device can be carried by police, thrown from shore, or deployed directly from a department drone to a person in need.

I'm Phil Neane for Todd Kaepernol this morning and in the news the Iowa County Sheriff's Office reported on Tuesday morning the Iowa County Communications Center received a report of a juvenile that fell out of a moving vehicle on private property.
The Spring Green Fire Department, Spring Green EMS and Iowa County Deputy and University of Wisconsin Med Flight responded to the scene.
The juvenile was transported to the hospital for further evaluation.
In the afternoon, Iowa County deputies responded to the 100 block of East Keene Street in the village of Ridgeway in an attempt to arrest Christopher Madison, 42, on a valid Sauk County warrant.
As a result of the investigation, Madison was taken into custody on the warrant and transported to Sauk County where he was turned over to Sauk County's custody.
And in the evening, the Iowa County Communications Center received a traffic complaint in the area of the 1100 block of North Big Cat Street in the city of Dodgeville, and Iowa County deputy conducted a traffic stop in that area.
As a result of the investigation, Pedro R.S.
Romero 55 was arrested for operating after revocation, whereas Romero was transported to the Iowa County Jail and booked on the charge.

Vice President JD Vance accused Governor Tony Evers of promoting fraud at a Wisconsin stop on Wednesday at the Milwaukee's Air National Guard Base.
Vance claimed the state's refusal to turn over Wisconsinites personal information to keep receiving federal food assistance funding was a scam.
I think the only plausible explanation for that is that he cares more about protecting illegal aliens than he does the good citizens of Wisconsin, Vance said.
He endorsed seventh congressionalist for Congressman Tom Tiffany for governor while talking about the White House's efforts to reduce Medicaid fraud.

Wisconsin farmers will soon have more options when it comes to fixing their equipment.
A multi-state settlement with John Deere requires the company to give farmers and independent repair shops access to key repair tools and resources.
Attorney General Josh Call says the agreement will keep reducing costly delays and give farmers more control over repairs.
The settlement follows allegations Deere limited repair options by requiring many fixed
to be done through authorized dealerships.
Deer will also be required to promote availability of those repair resources.
Wisconsin homeowners and renters in several Wisconsin counties including Sauk and Vernon and the United Nation with uninsured damage to their primary home, personal property loss or disaster related emergency needs due to the April storms and flooding may now apply for FEMA assistance.
If you have homeowners, renters, or flood insurance, you should file a claim before applying for FEMA assistance.
FEMA cannot duplicate benefits for losses covered by insurance.
If your policy does not cover all your disaster expenses, you may be eligible for federal assistance.
FEMA may be able to help you if you are displaced, have serious needs, need temporary lodging, require basic home repair costs, lost personal property, or have other uninsured disaster cause needs.
When applying for assistance, you will need to provide your contact information, your social security number, a general list of damage and losses, annual household income,

The Wisconsin Department of Tourism released the 2025 economic impact data showing that tourism in the eight counties along the Wisconsin Great River Road Tourism generated $980 million, which contributed to Wisconsin's tourism's fourth consecutive record-breaking year.
Statewide all-time high visitation drove Wisconsin tourism's
$27 billion in total economic impact last year.
The 2025 economic impact, an increase of 4.4%, surpassed the previous statewide record of $25.8 billion from 2024.

An Arkansas man charged with kidnapping a beaver damned teen pregnant with his child reached a plea deal this week.
41-year-old Gary Day has agreed to plead guilty to one count of enticement by use of a computer to engage in criminal sexual activity and one count of production of child pornography.
He faces at least 25 years in federal prison.
A sentencing date has not yet been set.
In February of last year, Day and the 16-year-old Beaver Dam girl who met online left the state, which prompted a multi-state Amber Alert.
They were found over a month later at a truck stop in Nebraska.

In the morning, the Iowa County Communications Center received a report of a disturbance at an address on Blue Ridge Road in the town of Arena.
As a result of the investigation, Michael T. Draxler, 36 of Barnabeld, was arrested for disorderly conduct with domestic.
Draxler was transported to the Iowa County Jail.
where he was booked on the charge.
During the afternoon hours, the Iowa County Communications Center received a request from probation and parole to make contact with Seth T. Moore, 49 of Arena, on an active warrant.
Iowa County Sheriff's deputies responded to an address on High Street in Arena and took more into custody without incident.
Moore was transported to the Iowa County Jail for the probation violation.
Later in the afternoon at 340, an Iowa County Sheriff's Deputy conducted a traffic stop near County Road Q and Esh Road in the town of Dodgeville.
As a result of the stop, Ellen D. Scheller, 46 of Muscaday, was arrested for operating while revoked, interlocking ignition device tampering, failed to install violate court order, and a probation violation.
Schaller was transported to the Iowa County Jail and booked on the charges.
In the evening, the Iowa County Communications Center received a report of an individual at an address on Olson Court in the city of Mineral Point.
As a result, Owen J. Martin, 43 of Mineral Point, was arrested on a warrant out of Dane County.
Martin was transferred to the custody of a Dane County Sheriff
Later in the evening, the Iowa County Communication Center received a report of a theft from Walmart.
The suspect was located not far from Walmart.
As a result, Ryan J. Jolin, 23 of Dodgeville, was arrested for bail jumping felony, bail jumping misdemeanor, and theft.
The Iowa County Sheriff's Deputy assisted the Dodgeville Police Department.
A few minutes later, the Iowa County Communications Center received a report of a motorcycle versus deer accident near County Road F and County Road K in the town of Moscow.
Blanchardville Fire Department, Blanchardville EMS, and Iowa County Sheriff's deputies responded to the scene.

Her defense team says federal judge Lynn Edelman made the right call on Wednesday in choosing not to sentence Duggan to prison or probation.
Edelman ordered the 66-year-old former Milwaukee County judge to pay $5,000 in her felony obstruction conviction for interfering as federal immigration agents attempted to serve a warrant to a man in U.S.
illegally at the Milwaukee County

Senator Tammy Baldwin and her colleagues are sounding the alarm on the Trump administration's recent decision to terminate nearly all teen pregnancy prevention program grants and are calling upon Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.
to immediately reinstate the funding for over 50 grants.
I'm sorry, 50 grantees nationwide, including the $1.2 million that was used to prevent teen pregnancy in Wisconsin.
The $1.2 million was used to prevent unintended pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections among young people, educate teens on how to navigate the health care system, and train medical providers on effectively communicating with teens.
In their letter to Secretary Kennedy, the lawmakers note that the teen pregnancy in the US has been on a steady decline for decades, thanks in part to successful programs like teen pregnancy prevention.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the teen birth rate fell by 7% in 2025, reaching another historic low.
The Senators also note that the abrupt termination of these grants aligns with the Trump administration's pattern of rejecting evidence and science, ignoring congressional intent and authority, and undermining the ability of people to make their own healthcare decisions.

A 17-year-old boy died after crashing into a tree last night in the town of Decatur, the Green County Sheriff's Office said.
WMTV 15 News reports that someone reported the crash to the Sheriff's Office Communication Center after 10.30 on the West 700 block of Tent Ike Road, about three-fourths of a mile west of Broadhead.
Green County law enforcement determined a 17-year-old boy was driving eastbound on the road when the car went off the road and into a tree.
The vehicle stopped in a ditch on the south side of the road.
Green County deputies, Broadhead Fire Department and Broadhead EMS all responded to the crash and determined the teen was trapped inside the car.

The Dawson store in Orian, it's accepted from a John Duffy bits of history.
And now, for Richland County Historical Society, history moment.
Here's the rest of the story.
According to a March 31st, 1977 issue of the Muscaday Progressive.
From an old record book kept by William Henry Dawson in his store in Orient, the following information was obtained from the period of November 1875 through December of 1876.
It's listed as credits issued by Dawson and it shows many farmers who cut and hewed railroad ties when they could and sold them to Dawson who turned them out as a railroad company.
One entry, especially noted since it was credited that it was issued to Julius Sorge for the ties plus road work.
This man
was the father of Rudy Sorgi as many would know in the Bloorver area and he evidently helped Mr. Dawson take care of the road and the store at the same time.
Selling him the railroad ties was a means of profit.
This man Dawson is where the Dawson Cemetery came from since he was the owner of that ground and the Dawson family was buried there.
Another familiar name to the Muscaday area in Richland County was Frank Stork and his farm along with what is now referred to as the Old Zahaka Farm.
It's located at the juncture of 193 and Highway 80 North.

Dawson opened a store and served as postmaster in the village of Orian in Richland County, then known as Richmond.
He previously resided on a farm in Hoosier Hollow before establishing the business there in the village of Orian, experiencing what was called, and I quote, a lively trade.
It was the latter 19th century, so the following prices are just a portion of what would be listed to purchase at Dawson's store.
You could
buy rubber covered hairpins for 13 cents.
A rake that would cost you 30 cents.
A peck of potatoes 10 cents.
Now realize a peck is a half a bushel.
A shaving brush for 30 cents.
A corn broom 30 cents.
A sack of flour that was likely 50 pounds not 40 and that could be purchased along with a barrel of salt for $3.15.
A hand sigh, that was $1.50.
And a cradle for gathering grain, $4.
That tool, which was used when wheat was cut to cradle it and then bundle it, was very common for the day.
One gallon of kerosene oil, that was 50 cents.
A bottle of bluing.
15 cents.
What would you use bluing for?
Well, if you ask about that, that's kind of like a laundry liquid, a detergent that made clothes look wider instead of yellowing them.
Nutmeg, you could get that for 11 cents.
Eggs by the dozen, 10 cents.
A box of matches, wooden matches, by the way, were 10 cents.
Suspenders!
50 cents, and boots you could range anywhere from $2 to $5 for a good pair.
