We got to talk about happenings in Hancock.
Well, we should prank all of them later.

Yeah, I'm never really a light traveler when it comes to this season.
I call it poster season.
Because, you know, it's event season coming up here.
Because guess what?
It is Memorial Day weekend.
That's right.
It snuck right up on us, right?
And it feels like it's really early.
What do you think?
You know, I have to still prepare for Memorial Day Monday.
Because we have that day off.
Yeah.
And so do we.
And I'm still the one who makes the logs.
Oh my goodness.
So I need to remember to do those.
Okay.
Guess what?
It's only Wednesday.
So you have time.
I do have time.
You have a little time.
I just need to remember.
So just think just as we're recapping the moment, it's the Memorial Day weekend this weekend.
So it's the unofficial beginning start of summer.
And the city of Hancock offices and transit will be closed on Monday, May 25th.
And we will reopen for business on Tuesday.
So just make a mental note of that.
If you're thinking that you need to get over to City Hall, please do that before by Friday, because the the city offices will be closed on
uh on May or
on Monday, May 25th.
And we will see you then on the 26th.
And also, let's try to remember those that served our country on Memorial Day.
There will be a lot of different services throughout our area.
I'm sure that there will be one near you.
So go and be thoughtful and thank those who have served.
There will be a service here at, I believe it's at 11 a.m.
on Monday, right at Memorial Park.
Please come on down to the city of Hancock, too, if you'd like to.
And this is also graduation season.
So we have got our class of 2026 with the Hancock Central High School graduating this weekend.
We want to congratulate those seniors on their transition into the next chapter of their lives.
And we also want to congratulate not just our Bulldogs, but all the graduating seniors through
the copper country.
We just know your future is bright.
Maybe you have to wear shades.
It's so bright.
So congratulations to all the graduating class of 2026.

This weekend, we also have the Flower Moon Spring Market.
If you're looking for a fun way to welcome summer, this Memorial Day weekend, why not check out this fun new market featuring over 40 local and regional UP vendors on Quincy Green
and the Hancock Community Hub at 417 Quincy Street.
That is this Sunday, May 24th, from 1 until 6 p.m.
This market will have a decidedly renaissance fair feeling about it and with a uber twist.
So you'll find surprises at each turn as you discover artwork, seasonal treats, plant starts, teas, tarot readings, flower bar, which you can make your own flower bouquets,
and there will be soaps, mists, salves, salves, I'm sorry, Hanna and much more.
There will also be live music, picnic spaces, and food trucks at the Quincy Green, and that is this Sunday, and that's May 24th from 1 until 6 p.m.
This fair was brought to you by the same organization that did the Harvest Moon Night Market, that's past fall in Calumet, so they had a great turnout there, and they are holding
hoping that they'll have a great turnout for their spring event.
And that's against this Sunday, May 24th, from 1 until 6 p.m.
We've got a wonderful art exhibit here in the city of Hancock at the Copper Country Community Art Center, featuring the abstract oil paintings by Rob Kangus.
And his show is called Emergence.
So if you'd like to check that out, that's going through May 30th.
And that's at the Carriage Gallery inside the Copper Country Community Art Center at 1

So you don't have that much more time left to go and check out though.

So it is a wonderful show.

That's through May 30th at the Copper Country Community Arts Center.
We've got our community painting event at the Community Arts Center.
And that is to celebrate the city of Hancock's 2026 Finno-Ugric capital of culture designation.
And they're hosting
I'm just seeing a Cirque bird painting, and I know I'm trying to say that the correct way.
CERC and it's spelled T-S-I-R-K.
And that's the bird that we received for our designation for our Finno-Ugric capital of culture.
And so there'll be 100 plus stylized birds being painted at the art center.
That'll happen on Tuesdays from three into five, Fridays from one until four, and Saturdays, they'll be letting us know when those times
will be.
But their goal is to have the community paint over 100 stylized birds.
The paper birds will be then displayed at local businesses and storefronts, and there will be wood birds that will be in the city of Hancock planters, and that they will be displayed throughout the entire growing season.
So if you're interested, you can get on over to the community art center, give them a call, and make sure you understand that the deadline for this project
is May 30th, but what a really great, like a class project for if you have a classroom of artists that's for any of our schools, you want to get on over there and paint a bird, what a wonderful way to do something for your community.
It sounds like...
A great event for bird lovers.
Again, absolutely bird lovers, definitely.
And then you just tie that all into our Celebrate, our Finno-Ugric Capital of Culture, which we are celebrating all year long.
So that is over at the Copper Country Community Arts Center.
Make sure you get on over there to paint a bird.
That is Tuesdays three until five and Fridays one until four.
There also is a wonderful art exhibit over at the Finlandia Art Gallery.
And that's at the Finnish-American Heritage Center.
And that show is by Bonnie Locus.
And she's got a show called Liminal Sanctuaries.
So her show is through June 10th.
So that's another show that you can check out during your art tour here in the city of Hancock.
We also have a bridge fest coming up and that kicks off in Hancock with Kids on the Green on Friday, June 12th from 11 a.m.
to 3 p.m.
featuring engineering camp, hot, diggity dog, costume parade, and that's at 2 p.m.
and that's 2 p.m.
sharp and games and fun for kids of all ages.
That's all on Quincy Green, Kids on the Green Friday, June 12th from 11 a.m.
to 3 p.m.
The Thatcher Markham Memorial Run is at 7 p.m.
and with the Bridgefest Parade to follow.
We have Saturday activities here in the city of Hancock.
We've got a ton of sports tournaments on Saturday, June 13th with Pickleball at Lauren Grove at 9 a.m., the tennis tournament at Terrace Park at 9 a.m., Beach Volleyball at Hancock Beach at 10 a.m., and Cribbage at New Teenies at 1 p.m.
So look at all those wonderful sports activities you can do right here at Hancock to celebrate.
Bridge Fest.
So we also have our classic car and motorcycle show at 400 Quincy Street.
That is from 11 a.m.
till 3 p.m.
That's at we've changed the location a little bit this year.
So that is around the old day DNN building.
And that's going to be a really great change for the location because we're going to also have the Blaine Crosby live music from 1 until 4 p.m.
There will be the hot the Volwars hot dog eating contest at
3 p.m.
And there'll be a cornhole tournament from noon until 4 p.m.
The beer garden, which is the fundraiser for the city of Hancock fire department is from noon until 11 p.m.
And then the big finale here in Hancock for our street dance.
We have outlawed and their only Western UP gig for the 2026 season is in downtown Hancock and they'll be performing from 7 until 11 p.m.
So what a great
lineup we have for Bridge Fest activities right here in downtown Hancock.
Also, we've got our Johannes celebration coming up, and that is the weekend after that.
So we've got celebration after celebration, and that will be June 17th through the 21st.
